  1. When I bought my first "real" turntable, I bought it at a brick and mortar store. After I got home and got everything set up, I noticed that when lowering the arm it moved towards the edge of the record on the way down, sometimes causing the stylus to actually miss the record completely. I didn't know shit about TT's then and am not especially handy anyway, so I brought it back to the store and they fixed it for free, on the spot. If I had bought online, this process would have been a pain, with shipping costs and much more waiting time. So now, while I will purchase some components online, turntables are an "in-store" purchase for me.
  2. I'm certainly no audiophile, but my Klipsch speakers sound great.
  3. Anybody have a discount code for Polyvinyl? UTR seems to no longer be working. EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. For those interested, "youtube" gets you 10% off.
  4. As long as you don't count the early cassettes (everything pre-Zopilote Machine), this is the only one not on vinyl already.
  5. My 1.3 came with a 2M Red. I've got no complaints, but it is the only cart I've used with the table, so I can't help much with recommendations.
  6. I love everything by them except "Time to Die," which I just pretend never happened. I'll be buying this.
  7. You could always help one of the many board members looking for a copy.
  8. I love my 1.3 and that is one hell of a price. Congrats!
  9. Found this band through The Vinyl Word (formerly Hipster Vinyl). Good stuff.
  10. Pretty much this. While it took a while for HV and Boxer to grow on me, this record hit me almost right away. After 10 or so listens, I'm in love.
  11. No worries man, I didn't have my location displayed anyway. And I appreciate the advice.
  12. Yeah, being in Norway I guess it'll be cheaper to just pony up for the 651. If I were in the US I would jump on the 640 though.
  13. Yeah, you're telling me what I want to hear. I think I'll go for the 651. Just got to save for a week or two and I'll be pulling the trigger on it. Thanks!
  14. So I demoed the Cambridge 551 and 651 at my local shop today. Both blew the NAD p2 out of the water, but other than that I didn't notice a significant difference between the two. Maybe the 651 sounded a little cleaner, but that could just have easily been because I was expecting it to outperform the 551. So now I'm not sure which I should get. The price difference is pretty big between the two (about $100), and while I can't see dabbling in MC carts in the near future, I'd like to get something that will hold a bit of resale value. What to do?
  15. I really love both of these bands. I'm so glad Whirr joined GF! I'm also grateful that the RC usually gets the color in color/ab side variant instead of splatter.
  16. Where did this number come from? I just figured there would be several thousand at least, similar to HV, which seemed to sell out of the colored vinyl in a couple days.
  17. Haha I read it after the edit, so no worries! And thanks for the answer. That is what I figured/was hoping for, since I'd like to plug my future phono preamp into the "phono" input.
  18. Everything I've read about phono pre's states to NEVER plug them into the phono inputs on your amp, and I think I understand why (running a preamp through another preamp?). However, my new amp has a phono input but no phono stage, and it would be nice to have the PHONO source actually be my TT, instead of using a line input like AUX. Is there any harm in using the phono input if there is no phono pre amp?
  19. Thanks Slinch. I think I'll demo the Cambridge Azur 651p at Hi-Fi Klubben. Looks like the only other phono stage that they had on the website are the CA 551p and the NAD PP2 and PP3.
  20. Thanks for the ideas so far. I should have been specific when using terms like "budget" and the phrase "spend a bit more," since everyone's financial situation is different. While I'm certainly invested in the format, I'm not necessarily looking to buy the last pre amp I'll ever need For the time being, I think I'm looking more in the <$250 neighborhood. Swemoll, I'm doing a bit of research on the CA 640p now. Sounds like a good bargain. Quick/perhaps stupid question: Is it compatible with 240v? I'm having trouble finding info on this. I'm in Norway, so I would also need a European power supply.
