  1. "Concrete Americana" is an album that you have not heard before. And although Jan would be the last person to attach himself to a hype; as a music journalist you have to realize that this music seems to be in high demand among many people right now. Just think of the successes of Khruangbin, who invite you into similar expanses, or the musicians of Los Bitchos, who ride out from gray London and add a pinch of LSD and a few shots of tequila to their sound. „Concrete Americana", as a new genre and as an album, is in excellent hands with this group - although it can also stand completely on its own. Daniel Koch (Diffus, Musikexpress, Applause Magazine) Musicians from MODERAT, CASPER, NEÀNDER, EARTHSHIP, GRIN contributed parts in this recording. 6. Only one and a half year after releasing its debut; instrumental collective neànder returns with a new album via Through Love Records due October 9th followed by extensive touring. 'eremit' is the follow up to the bands' critically acclaimed self-titled debut that was truely a monument to heavy music. "Proof that there's beauty in melancholy is the instrumental soundscape neànder by Germans of the same name" RnR Magazine (UK) wrote in its 'Best of 2019' feature. Rolling Stone scored 4 out of 5 stars and named the 4-pieces' sound 'a dead black moonscape'. neànder continue to evolve their very own blend of heavy music that draws on musical elements of doom, ambient and black metal. A bleak and desolate atmosphere casts its shadow on 'eremit'. The foursome cuts a dark crystal playing with variations of light and shade. „We wanted to dig deeper into our own sound. As a result the riffs are slower and heavier than before and the epic parts are way more intense“ says the band. „This album is all about finding your indentity. Figure out who you are and then head out for the next chapter“ says Jan Korbach. „We wrote our first album over a period of three years, but this one only took 6 months. And this really sticks it all together.“ The drums were recorded in Berlin at the studio of Christoph Barthelt of Kadavar. Jan Oberg produced and mixed the over 40 minutes long monolith at Hidden Planet Studios Berlin: „'eremit' shows a band dive into their own cosmos, it's truely a voyage from first to last“ he says. Magnus Lindberg (Cult of Luna) mastered the album in Stockholm: "It was pure joy working on this very powerful and yet dynamic album trying to get the music forward in the most flattering way. Highly recommended album!" Bio: neànder consists of musos from Blackgazers Ånd, Hardcore Punks Patsy O' Hara, Berlin Sludgers Earth Ship and live band members from Indie outfit Casper. Shortly after releasing its debut in 2019 the band headed out for 4 weeks lasting tour playing shows and festivals with artists such as Pelican (US), Inter Arma (US) or Big Business (US). 7. SVALBARD return with their third album, When I Die, Will I Get Better?, due out via Holy Roar Records on September 25. Having lost none of their gut-punching energy, the four-piece have redefined post-metal and delivered an emotive opus for the ages; an eight track anthology of personal and societal highs and lows. Each track tells a tale, putting one topic or one incident under vocalist and lyricist, Serena Cherry’s thoughtful gaze; she picks at the scabs to reveal another raw piece of the overall creative puzzle beneath. Written across several months in 2019 and early 2020 the chronology takes a myriad of twists and turns, through inner turmoil, personal reflection, and external observations. Inspiration is spun out of the day-to-day as much as it is out of extreme moments of anguish or clarity. With themes of sexism, misogyny, abuse and mental health at the core of the oeuvre, When I Die, Will I Get Better? is a shadowy ride through the author’s psyche. The first track, Open Wound, drenches the heavy metal foundations of the album in melancholic melody that pervades each and every effervescent track thereafter. The shimmering guitars lend an expansive and bittersweet sound to the songs, reminiscent of the likes of Envy, Alcest and Oathbreaker. Having polished up a few of the rougher edges found on earlier releases, the overall sound is one of a band hitting a more mature stride whilst retaining the vibrancy that makes them so unique, both live and on record. SVALBARD have used autumnal colours in the artwork to represent the feeling of change, and of darkness creeping in - but also the warmth and the glow of hope - the outer packaging reflecting the sentiments of the music within. Whilst the thematic content is often harrowing, the album is flecked through with shards of hope, which bloom into what can only be described as a love song on album closer, Pearlescent. The stag on the cover symbolizes both strength and fear, in the sense that it cuts an imposing figure with its antlers, yet it remains often in danger and preyed upon. Taking the title from a stumbled-upon book (which features an apt subtitle of ‘A Book About Healing’), SVALBARD have designated a triple-pronged meaning to the words. One interpretation being the feeling of struggling with mental health and leaning towards wondering if death might be a cure for the inescapable pain. A second elucidation being the phenomenon of people being put upon a pedestal after death, something particularly prevalent in celebrity culture. The third relates to the idea of heaven; of people believing in the bribe that they will be rewarded in the afterlife for behaving a certain way during their time on earth. The amalgamation of these three threads creates a tapestry of emotions hung on the framework of one of the most essential albums of 2020. 10. Cheers in the round, as reflecting TOP 10 releases in 2019 this Album came way too short IMO also Paste wrote about it - https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2019/12/best-shoegaze-albums-2019.html?fbclid=IwAR17pOMFKkxt4upshVm20sPfC7fF8XfQTgbYonqfb-ap6mUikq5Ih1pGh_E. Also I recognized not much attention on this board for this record. Really wondering as many liked WHIRR, DIIV and TENNIS SYSTEM. This is an absolute MUST listen and buy for you guys. So maybe this Thread helps to keep you in the right direction ;) haha This came out through RFC in US, Through Love Rec (Europe) and Luxury in March. I think there are still limited vinyl left (lim. 100) at TLR... https://throughloverec.bandcamp.com/album/westkust Beside that Sweden alone needs a Thread for outstanding shoegazy Indie Music.

  13. "This is the missing link between Explosions in the Sky and Bongripper“ says a friend about Berlin based instrumental 5-piece neànder. Where do you draw the line between Post-Metal, Doom, Stoner or even Modern Black Metal? Post-Rock and Underground Metal have always been familiar. This is sweeping Ambient music combined with the intensity of a Norwegian Black Metal group. Epic songs hovering around the 10 minute mark. Black Sabbath influenced droning Doom riffs ascending into heavenly, dreamy soundscapes. 5 hypnotic chapters made to be listened to in its entirety; this album tends to be ritual music. Founded in 2017 the collective consists of members from bands like Ånd, Patsy O' Hara, Not Now Not Ever, Earth Ship. Asked about why they keep their music on an instrumental level the answer is „a singer would reduce us into being either a Metal- or a Post-Rock band. We believe that the sacrifice of lyrics will keep our musical vision open and will help to intend on the music“. neànder recorded its self-titled debut album in March 2018 at Hidden Planet Studios, Berlin (The Ocean, Abest, Sun Worship) mixed by Jan Oberg from Earth Ship, mastered by Magnus Lindberg from Cult of Luna. FFO: Bongripper, Explosions in the Sky, Isis, Neurosis, Russian Circles, Year Of No Light or Mogwai.
  14. Cheers, EARTH MOVES (formed of members from We Never Learned To Live, Grappler, and Cloud Boat) have announced their stunning second LP Human Intricacy, released 15th November via Through Love Records & Truthseeker Music. Band released 2 new singles 'Into The Ether' and 'Other Voices, Other Rooms" here: https://throughloverec.bandcamp.com/album/human-intricacy Pre-order Human Intricacy: http://bit.ly/human-intricacy-through-love [Ships from Germany - around 6€ Shipping / 9€ registered Shipping] A combination of post-metal, screamo, sludgy shoegaze and black metal, EARTH MOVES boast an abundance of musical influences, including Deftones, Amenra, Slowdive, and Wolves in the Throne Room. EARTH MOVES are also highly influenced by classical music, not least because guitarist Sam Ricketts (Grappler, Cloud Boat) studied music at University, and named the band after an aria in Benjamin Britten’s opera Peter Grimes. Whilst in Cloud Boat Sam toured with James Blake, Ghostpoet and more – fair to say that EARTH MOVES are a band with a mountain of experience and interest to draw on. PRESSING INFORMATION: 100 x Cream/Pink with Black Splatter [TLR EXCLUSIVE] 200 x Blue/Silver 200 x Gold All vinyl coming with printed inners, hotfoil print on cover and download code.
