  1. I think I had chatted with a few people here about zines before, but ah well... Holy shit I wrote a book! : OHNOTHEROBOT Zine - The First Five Years “I firmly believed that every farewell should be sealed with both a kiss and a final fuck you. A relationship ousted with a whimper was sadder than a slap in the face. Besides, crawling back after saying goodbye was ultimately more depressing than faux-farewells. This is why it’s always a good idea to turn down break-up sex, which had the slimy reputation as being the best kind of sex…” -“Firebomb”, OHNO!THEROBOT #6 http://www.etsy.com/listing/67931461/ohnotherobot-zine-the-first-five-years OHNO!THEROBOT – The First Five Years 84 pgs. Perfect bound, silk-screened covers, hand-numbered out of a first edition of 44. Nostalgia is a wicked, dirty thing. What else could explain drunk dialing, hoarding years-old love letters or Googling ex-whatevers? But somehow nostalgia, like the most perfect shitty relationship, has a way of getting better as you get older. Getting dumped in the rain somehow seems warmer, even sort of funny. And throwing up in secret behind the dumpster at your first job never tasted so good. OHNO!THEROBOT was a zine that existed as a document of tragic punk rock, vagrant’s love and chasing everything that would destroy you. Over its run of five issues, OHNO!THEROBOT developed into some strange world unto itself, with familiar characters and telltale vignettes that are guaranteed to never quite work out for anyone. Weirder yet, the collection of stories, when examined under the thick lens of nostalgia, actually comes together better as a novella in lieu of a sporadically-self-published fanzine. OHNO!THEROBOT – The First Five Years is a haunting blend of near-fictional accounts of doomed crushes, shit jobs and shittier friends, bike crashes, car crashes, whirlwind family, terrible punk bands and inviting error of every and any kind. http://www.etsy.com/listing/67931461/ohnotherobot-zine-the-first-five-years Reviews: “Aside from being immensely entertaining, the stories are well executed, containing a healthy dose of biting sarcasm and self-deprecation.” - Punk Planet “Any fans of Aaron Cometbus or Al Burian’s style of personal narrative would do themselves a great favor to discover Chris Morin’s heartfelt and introspective writing.” - Razorcake Magazine “In a genre where people often commit atrocities, this zine stands tall, a decent example of why it’s a good idea for creative writers to publish their own work.” - Maximum Rock and Roll
  2. I guess it's a lot to spend at once, but I think $200 for 14 killer albums (give or take) is a pretty decent deal. I guess the box itself is worth something too.
  3. Going on tour across Canada for an entire month. Might be nice to eat, booze, etc. http://shop.ebay.ca/theghostsinbedsheets/m.html Also, if you see something on my list make an offer. It won't hurt you. Just me.
  4. Let's not say things we can't take back. This I am stoked for.
  5. I never got a confirmation e-mail, so it's the equivalent of the next morning's "Did we just?....we didn't....did we?" At least I won't get gonorrhea. "Bororrhea".
  6. you'll regret it in the morning. Some dudes get drunk and wake up next to a gross chick. Some dudes get drunk and wake up next to Boris records.
  7. i've seen them live as well and left 3/4 way through their set due to being bored. they played after torche and perhaps it was an off night, but, most of their recent releases have been pretty hit or miss, mostly misses. hope everyone enjoys this release though! Weird, who could get bored watching that drummer? When I saw them he had a silver sequined vest, no shirt on, eyeliner and he kept jumping on throne and screaming at the crowd. It was weirdly amazing. Heavy Rocks is the best Boris album - this will be the best thing I've heard today (if true). I like their spread as well. Even I find some of their releases lacklustre I am always interested in hearing their new material.
  8. I saw them live last year - easily one of the best shows I've seen.
  9. I like the "pricey" designation, but when were Boris albums ever affordable?
  10. var ads = new Array("300x250-1.png","300x250-2.png","300x250-3.png"); var num = Math.floor(Math.random()*ads.length); if(Math.floor(Math.random()*2) == 0) { if(Math.floor(Math.random()*2) == 0) document.write('+':hf46xzi7]'); else document.write('+':hf46xzi7]'); } else { document.write(''); }
  11. This will be the best thing I've heard all day, guaranteed! +1! ORDERED!
  12. i want to pick up that no joy record but mexican summer prices are dumb. Yeah, I got one at the record release show for $12 or $15, I can't remember. It's hand-numbered out of 1500, FYI.
  13. People should pay attention to No Joy, who are opening on this tour. Good shit.
  14. Beat me to it; great for a shirt, not so much for a logo. As the father of the bear, I completely agree actually. It's not a great logo at all. I just thought it was a funny idea and it made me laugh when I drew it. Let the other one be the logo.
  15. If 6 ultimately wins, I quit the board. Tell you what - you quit and take A-Money with you and I'll withdraw the logo from the contest. That way we all win. :
  16. I have no idea what you are trying to say. Sure, maybe they are different schools of thought. But they have to be integrated. Your example. It's not guitar vs. bass. It's guitar and bass. They work together. A song with a guitar riff and a bass line clashing is not going to sound good. Same goes with design. The type and the logo/mark need to work together. Exactly - I'm in complete agreement with you. I meant that some people are really good at either guitar or bass, but rarely both - different schools of thought to reach the same goal, which is to work in simpatico with one another.
  17. Graphics and typography are two different schools of thought - kind of like guitar vs. bass.
  18. Whatever, it was probably just a joke anyway. Still though, there is definitely a vibe here from a lot of people who have implied that they (or someone they know) would have done better than the candidates chosen. And that's just silly. Besides, you get what you pay for.
  19. I call bullshit on everyone here who is saying "my art is better than your art".
