Yea I also get that vibe from the staff members. More so Jason Tate who thinks his shit dont stink. And he's always trying to raise money from users. His new website sucks and news is outdated. And their forum rules are so anti-bullying, catholic school vibe that you get warned just for saying someone looks funny. Anyways; back to Brand New. I really wish they would play one more show, but I dont see that being a possibility.

This... AP.net forums were such a staple for me growing up/high school years. The forums were such a better place then. What the site has turned into is completely sad.

True. I still miss AP. But it's just not the same. The music news is buried by Apple news and reblogged feminist articles. And the community is kind of annoying.

Just a few notes
#1 I find it funny that good ol' Mr. Tate Closed the BN forum on chrous.fm this week after stating for a year he wouldn't.
#2 I sold my CD the week it arrived for $320
#3 I really really like this song.
#4 Technically brand new was 2000-2017. They were MIA for 2018.
#5 Regardless of his past, I still love, support, and miss this band. It had four members, not one. I feel bad for the other three guys.
#6 I really wonder what BN had up their sleeves for 2018 being as it was going to be their last year.

anyone pick up CKY? How is it? I wanted it, but not really worth the $15 to me. I love all their material, but not the need to own 4 songs on vinyl

njpunkmusic reacted to Smellman in Upgrade Bug - suggestions/opinions please
I was in the same situation with a similar setup. I had the Cambridge CXA60, ProJect DC Esprit, 2M Red, and Cambridge CP1 preamp. I swapped out the preamp with a Lounge MKIII($300) and the 2M Red with a Nagaoka MP110($120). The cartridge swap was more of a parallel move but I like the Nagaoka's qualities more than the Ortofon. You may want to upgrade to the Blue. Pretty sure you can just swap out the stylus on the Red and Blue. The preamp was a definite step up.
The Esprit came with an acrylic platter and Im not convinced it's any better.
Still really liking my CXA60.

Depending on who you speak to, and the level of critical listening, DACs to some make little difference, or a whole world of difference. Fifteen to twenty years ago, the costs of digital-to-analog conversion were significantly higher (which is why sound cards, discmans, and any other way to decode digital music cost hundreds of dollars). Now, a half-decent DAC costs literally pennies (take, for example the lightning to headphone adapter which costs $9 - it has a DAC in it, and it sounds pretty decent). Most cheap laptops now have passable DACs (though often terrible speakers). There are some incredible $100 DACs out there, and then when you start spending more, the improvements in sound are definitely noticeable but not significant until you start spending a lot more or get cutting edge technology. I do most of my listening with very expensive headphones, and I find I can definitely hear differences. On my speaker/turntable system, I don't hear as much of a difference (partly because my speakers are in my kitchen/dining room where I can't do as much critical listening).
Let me know if you are thinking more about DACs - I've owned at least 7 or 8 in the past few years, and while I'm not expert at all, I have definitely learned a lot about the differences and approaches.

njpunkmusic reacted to Tardcore in Cambridge CXN Digital Streamer
My streaming setup is pretty simple.
I run an Apple TV (currently the 4k, formerly a 3rd gen, and an Apple Airport Express) into my Marantz SR5008 which is passing the signal in Pure Mode (2.0 stereo, no signal to sub) to my Marantz PM8004 in amp only mode powering Monitor Audio RX8 speakers.
In other words, I am using my AV receiver (SR5008) purely as a digital preamp and not to drive my speakers.
I have tried running the same digital signal from the Apple streaming units into my Emotiva XDA-2 DAC into the PM8004 and didn't really notice a difference and I had to push some additional buttons to get it set up that way versus just using the same setup I use for movies, etc.

Mine is cheap and easy (really easy for you since you have a Mac). Airplay to generation 1/2 Airport express, to my set-up. Has a halfway decent DAC in it. I used to run it to a Schiit man (optical out) but sold it. I think the Airport express was $20 on ebay shipped.
