The problem is there isn't enough judgement. Shitty music is shitty music. No one would think to make a breaking benjamin, tove lo, or phish thread back in the day for fear of the negative backlash. Now no one has any dignity. The reason they are called guilty pleasures is because even though you enjoy them you are embarrassed about it and keep it a secret.
It used to be that almost every thread was a band worth checking out. Now there might be 3 on the first page that aren't a load of crap.

I actually do miss Virgil...dude was open to anything on the boards (except for bashing Virgil)....at least he was genuinely enthused on puting out records of stuff he loved and artists he cared about. An absolute dreamer and idealist and a merchandiser, sure, certainly so. But he had genuine enthusiasm for starting VC. Hell, even the fucking co-op was sprung from a place of trying to get the board more involved with releases. I'm well aware that shit went sour the secon he started hemoraging money because he moved his operation from his house to apparently a warehouse that was WAY too fast of a growth spurt for his business to handle.
Dude fucked up HARD, but he was also fairly active in this community.
The Suburban Home day party I made it to at SXSW was a blast. Virgil hung out the whole time.
Dude needed a financial planner or consultant like I need a bagel right now. But this board is now an online shop that opened a retail shop that only makes posts about whatever new overpriced reissue they're releasing....I've bought some of them.....some sound better than others, but they're not a label and I certainly don't feel they have the same passion about this whole vinyl thang. They're not interested in releasing albums they're passionate about, they're interested in releasing re-issues they'll probably make money on...not to say that's the worst thing in the world, but I feel like that mentality and mode of thinking is what brought an influx of SoundTrackers who buy during RSD and RSD BF and sporadically if any throughout the year as opposed to people who are passionate about music in general and happen to thoroughly enjoy vinyl as a preferred format.
I understand there are great generalizations made in the above post and it doesn't call anybody in particular out (sans Virg and SRC)....but it's how I feel about this place

    Damn.
Salty. Sober. Drunk or not. Seeing VC from the outside as I'm supposed to...there's a very clear truth in that "rant". It's been festering for quite a while around these parts.
Want a recent example? Look at the guy going off the rails on Deafheaven's New Bermuda because the copy he received is not the exact color the label advertised. Really?!?! For fuck's sake.

This has been a place that I have enjoyed for years until the last year or so. That's when the newbz started to come in, rack up 13,000 posts and think they run the fucking place. This whole flipping discussion can fuck off. THIS IS A COLLECTORS FORUM - GET THE FUCK OVER IT. IN COLLECTING, THERE'S FLIPPING. Im fucking sick of hearing it. (im looking at you museummouth)
When this place was in its prime, anything went (im looking at you parkinglot). I was part of the proboards era. All of you new jacks dont know what the fuck this place used to be in it's glory.
You folks have ruined VC. EVERYTHING IS TOO EXPENSIVE. OH NO A CORNER DING! DOES THAT CORNER DING HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE WAY YOUR RECORD SOUNDS? NO. THIS ISNT A FUCKING ART FORUM.

Why do you think great members have left?

    TL;DR

lighten the fuck up, listen to your records and enjoy life.
Oh. and this "pop punk " that you just think is great, is a fucking joke. Go listen to Teen Idols.

Maybe someday you'll be able to say you've touched a boob that wasn't your mom's. Or, maybe someday you'll learn how to insert a comma or start a sentence with a capital letter, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

You would think having been here 3 years longer you would have learned a thing or 2 about Relapse and their lack of providing tracking info for pretty much every order they ship.  Plus, dude posted one post before yours with a picture of the records and then you ask if they're shipping?  C'MON MAN!

I think patience on packages is a dying art form.  Funny that people are so antsy to get pressings of albums that have been out for 8+ years.  What's another few weeks or months for that matter?

Just popping in to say that the G.L.O.S.S. demo is the best hardcore record released this year!

I've never heard Whirr before, but I hope this gets more people to check out G.L.O.S.S.

That apology is the worst. Laughably bad.
To the question about separating art from the artist: it's nearly impossible to know that a shitty person created a form of expression and enjoy it. That music is a direct expression of their very being hatred and all. I gave up on them a long time ago and feel right in having done so - music is human expression and we know what these assholes are expressing there is no between-the-lines. I finally am divesting of Kozelek related shit myself for this very reason.
Keep listening if you want but don't decieve yourself into thinking there is separation. This is their art. They created it. They own it. There are awful people involved.

To play devil's advocate here for a minute... Yeah, what they said is shitty, but isn't everyone entitled to their own opinion and able to say whatever they want?
What about all these people saying they want the guys in Whirr to die or be horribly injured? Are they not also in the wrong? If they're entitled to that opinion, why aren't Whirr entitled to theirs?
Again, just playing devil's advocate. I still think what they did was shitty and won't support them, but they had every right to say it.

Discussing more of the music side of this debate hence the guy was a "major investor/backer" of Rickly's label, I personally think that Rickly is pretty much fucked at this point. Although all the bands that have spoken up thus far on the matter and their involvement with Collected have been praising and been positive about Rickly's character and as a person, I think the damage is well and done with the "guilty by association" mentality that we see it as now.

Being a bit jaded and very cynical, I find it hard to believe that Rickly had zero knowledge about who Shkreli really was/is and how he made his money. I mean c'mon...it's all over each other's social media on how they're buds and always hanging out and pal'ing around.

But even if Rickly truly 100% was unaware of it all til now...damage is done and his rep and his label's will be questioned. And that sucks cuz he's a good person.

I think you have a poor attitude as a seller. That's your customer and you should follow their wishes or cancel the order if you cannot meet their expectations. Fact is that many sellers don't know how to ship a record and seam splits occur. Buyer was probably fed up with it and sends the same instructions to all sellers. It's a smart move.

This thread is getting the lockdown.

Sales and advertising of bootleg releases will no longer be tolerated around here. It has not in the past and still won't be. Only reason this thread got allowed to go so long was it was all being kept secret and hush-hush via emails and offsite. Not anymore.

Now things have escalated with arguments and general bad/shady business practices.

In future...do not post if you're selling bootleg releases. You will be banned permanently from the boards.

If a new thread for LEGIT video game OSTs is to be started, go ahead, but it will be watched due to nonsense that has occurred here.
