  1. Speculation that the song "Birmingham" is about Jason Isbell: Held her hand in old Savannah Mirror-gold print on her dress Her hair was combed and parted Like a beautiful princess I didn’t see you at the altar Way back then, you were so drunk You were washed up on some hooker’s bed Behind a shitty restaurant Bought her pretty clothes and diamonds Like I was born to be her man We were more than commentary Or a cheap headline grab So when the wind blows in your window ‘Cause the storm don’t give a damn Pray the window don’t break across the wrists Of your writing hand... On the stationery wet with tears Of the people’s backs you stab When you’re hiding like a robber, With no one’s purse to grab Remember me standing there, Holding out my hand In a broken down motel in Birmingham
  2. This is my point exactly. People are going to make their own decisions based on their own moral compass. We could go on all day with examples. Some people may shun the Beatles music because John Lennon was an admitted domestic abuser. Legions of others haven't let that get in the way of enjoying the Beatles. While I've taken Ryan Adams out of my rotation, I'm not about to get confrontational with peeps who can still get something enjoyable from his records.
  3. From NYTimes Report: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/14/arts/music/fbi-ryan-adams.html Federal law bars the sexual exploitation of children under 18, defining a violator as anyone who “persuades, induces, entices or coerces any minor to engage in” a visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct. Several legal experts said that decisions on whether to prosecute such cases could hinge on whether the adult reasonably believed the minor was of legal age, taking into account context from their conversations.
  4. It'd be rad if the dialogue here could continue the way the last few posts have. I know this is the internet and it's super easy to curse at people and insult them without consequence. But I think it's way more interesting for people to disagree without telling each other to fuck off. Whether one can/should separate art from the artist is a long running issue. I have my own take but it would be the height of hubris for me to get hostile and belittling towards someone whose views don't align exactly with mine. It's not hard for me to understand that some folks can continue to enjoy the music of Ryan Adams notwithstanding reports about him. I also get why the absolutely abhorrent behavior that's been described is an instant "game over" for others. I believe there's plenty of room for people of good faith to have different views about how this all impacts the music. What I will never understand are the pro-Adams folks that try to excuse his behavior by pointing the finger at the victims of his behavior. I think that is absolutely wretched (yet, I can express this opinion without being uncivil). The last thing I want to mention concerns the allegations about Adam's online conduct with an underage individual. It was mentioned above (and among many other Adams fans) that the lack of any charges being filed somehow disproves the allegations against him. This is simply not true. The February 2019 New York Times report confirms that Adams had sexually explicit exchanges with a minor. This included Adams exposing himself to her, requesting that she expose herself to him, giving nick names to her body parts, and expressing concern about the minor's mother finding out about their activities. How do we know this? Because the minor has screen grabs of all of this and it was independently verified by the NY Times, which has the receipts. Note that Adams has never denied this reporting. He has only denied knowing that the individual was underage. The potential criminal charges would require proof that Adams knew he was soliciting a minor. This is not an easy thing to prove, which is certainly a plausible explanation for why charges have not been brought. In fact, the NY Times reporting makes clear that on more than one occasion, Adams asked her to verify her age and she lied about being 18 (although he never forced the issue by requiring that she show him ID). Many have been quick to point out that Adams very likely knew she was a minor (she was apparently well known on YouTube as a teenage music prodigy) and that Adams asking about her age was just an attempt to cover himself. Whatever you believe about Adams's actual knowledge, this uncertainty makes it easier to understand why charges were never brought. None of this changes the fact that a 40-something man engaged in the conduct described above with someone he knew to be a teenager (and while he was married). Whether or not this rises to the level of chargeable criminal conduct, it is still, in my view, repugnant behavior for which he deserves to be judged.
  5. If he's ever in a position to play live again, how he handles the heckling will be very interesting. I do not expect that to go well. Interestingly, I think Adams's personality has a lot in common with Trump's: bottomless narcissism, inability to deal with the slightest of of criticism (despite readily dishing it out to others), complete lack of empathy, tendency to see people as objects for him to use and then discard when they no longer serve his purpose(s), pathological lying, loyalty only to himself, and the belief that his victims are really the bad actors and he is really the victim. I've not listened to his music since the NY Times piece. I was holding out some hope that he would at least attempt some genuine acts of redemption. At this stage, I just don't see that ever happening (emphasis on the genuine). Why am I still posting on this thread? Still trying to figure that out myself.
  6. Looks like he's finally coming out of exile with a March release of the "Wednesdays" LP: https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/ryan-adams-wednesdays/hnum/10385169?fbclid=IwAR1EVRe24sXcn_6W-WrkjVBM0jRtP-zzwPN8tTQn9YV3woHUTQKBQbOUg1k
  7. On my third listen. This record absolutely surpassed my expectations, which were high to begin with. The only track I'm not totally loving is House of a Thousand Guitars. Janey Needs a Shooter and Burning Train are my current faves.
  8. For real. The new Springsteen and Japandroids live LP are each $35 and they’re only 2 LPs. Complaining about the price point on this triple LP is absurd.
  9. They added a couple more to the online store: http://www.infinitycat.com/products/654675-diarrhea-planet-live-at-exit-in-blu-ray
  10. Very interesting that three of these songs date back to the 70s. Two of them (If I Was a Priest and Song for Orphans) date back to before Bruce's first record. Can't wait to hear how these sound sung by modern Bruce, especially If I Was a Priest. Here is a 70's demo of the song:
  11. New single/video. Love the classic "E Street" sound and seeing the band together:
  12. Official announcement is coming tomorrow. The record store with the link I posted above jumped the gun and the preorder has been taken down for now.

Indie Exclusive on gray vinyl: https://shop.traxonwaxrecords.com/SecureCartAdd2?type=new&qty=1&upc=194398086910 BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN'S LETTER TO YOU, NEW ROCK ALBUM FEATURING THE E STREET BAND, OUT OCTOBER 23 Bruce Springsteen’s new studio album with the E Street Band, Letter To You, will be released by Columbia Records on October 23. A rock album fueled by the band's heart-stopping, house-rocking signature sound, the 12 track Letter To You is Springsteen's 20th studio album, and was recorded at his home studio in New Jersey. “I love the emotional nature of Letter To You,” says Springsteen. “And I love the sound of the E Street Band playing completely live in the studio, in a way we’ve never done before, and with no overdubs. We made the album in only five days, and it turned out to be one of the greatest recording experiences I’ve ever had.” Letter to You includes nine recently written Springsteen songs, as well as new recordings of three of his legendary, but previously unreleased, compositions from the 1970s, “Janey Needs a Shooter,” “If I Was the Priest,” and “Song for Orphans.” Springsteen is joined on Letter To You by Roy Bittan, Nils Lofgren, Patti Scialfa, Garry Tallent, Stevie Van Zandt, Max Weinberg, Charlie Giordano and Jake Clemons. The album was produced by Ron Aniello with Bruce Springsteen, mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Bob Ludwig. Letter To You is Springsteen's first time performing with the E Street Band since The River 2016 tour, which was named the year's top global tour by both Billboard and Pollstar. Bruce Springsteen’s recording career spans over 40 years, beginning with 1973's ‘Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ’ (Columbia Records). He has garnered 20 Grammys, won an Oscar and a Tony, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received a Kennedy Center Honor and was MusiCares’ 2013 Person of the Year. Springsteen’s memoir ‘Born to Run’ (Simon & Schuster) and its companion album ‘Chapter and Verse’ were released in September 2016, and he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in November 2016. His historic 236-show run of ‘Springsteen on Broadway’ at Jujamcyn’s Walter Kerr Theatre from October 2017 to December 2018 also yielded an accompanying soundtrack album and Netflix special. In 2019, Springsteen released 'Western Stars,' his first studio album in five years, and together with longtime collaborator Thom Zimny he co-directed ‘Western Stars,’ a feature film released through Warner Bros. 14. Damn, in the last 10 seconds it went from $14,700.00 to over $22k. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Misfits-LEGACY-OF-BRUTALITY-Plan-9-PL9-06-Pink-w-Red-VINYL-1986-1-of-16-Rare-/333695012332?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=9He%2BN32tK7CVSc5IiDhMoegs9DA%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc
  15. This is from an older sale on popsike: Between the red and white vinyl pressings, Glenn did not have the stampers cleaned, causing 16 of the 1000 colored vinyl copies to turn out pink. Glenn has explained that there were 3 variants that qualified as pink: very light pink vinyl with pink blotches and red streaks, pale pink vinyl, and a darker "bubblegum" pink color. https://www.popsike.com/THE-MISFITS-Legacy-of-brutality-PINK-Vinyl-LP-HC-Punk-DANZIG/261570895754.html

  21. I guess you need to be a member. Here's some copy and paste from user "McCool" who always has lots of quasi-inside info: Yes it looks like a release of "Wildflowers: All The Rest" is forthcoming but as I stressed in the other thread, outside of the loose parameters given by Adria Petty for a 2020 release no official announcement or release date for "Wildflowers: All The Rest" has been set as of this date. Essentially the Tom Petty estate in cooperation with The Heartbreakers and the assistance of Tom Petty's longtime engineer Ryan Ulyate has made the decision to preview one of the tracks that is going to be included as part of the "Wildflowers: All The Rest" project when it appears to market. Trust me, I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade I just want the most accurate information out there regarding the trajectory of this project going forward and all public indications are as of this date, it is still being worked on by all concerned parties. So Stay Tuned! PS: As mentioned above the eight-track home demo of "You Don't Know How It Feels" retains lyrics that would eventually find their way into "Crawling Back To You". "Crawling Back To You" was one of the latter day "Wildflowers" compositions, being composed initially with the "Greatest Hits" project in mind so it's not surprising the song lyrics that would eventually feature in that song were initially heard in a separate composition. Just a few more bits 'n' bobs before I head out, for those who were unable to either hear or have access to the broadcast tonight: 01. The project has always been called "Wildflowers: All The Rest". For some confounded reason people across the internet have been referring to it as "Wildflowers 2" like it's the Return Of The Jedi or something. That isn't that title. The title that Tom Petty selected for the project basically from it's inception was "Wildflowers: All The Rest". 02. If you listened closely to Adria Petty's commentary on the track sequencing for the original double disc version of "Wildflowers" that was supposed to appear back in 1994, it does seem as if the Tom Petty estate has gained access to at least one of Tom Petty and Rick Rubin's proposed track sequences for the original double disc. This is an issue that was speculated about last year regarding how "Wildflowers: All The Rest" could potentially be formatted when it is finally released to market. 03. Mark Felsot of SiriusXM's "Tom Petty Radio" has confirmed that Tom Petty at least as of 2014 was not able to bring "Wildflowers: All The Rest" to a conclusion which is possibly why there is further work for his estate to embark upon in terms of preparing this particular archival release for market. Tom Petty was obviously invested in this project throughout the latter years of his life, he just may have not been able to see a final banded version of it to fruition. 04. Adria Petty did give Tom Petty/Heartbreakers fans some tantalizing information regarding the potential contents of what "Wildflowers: All The Rest" could contain. While outside of one exception she didn't mention any specifics in regards to tracks she did state that "Wildflowers" was originally going to comprise the fifteen track album that we all know, the additional content that comprises "All The Rest" and then curiously "Girl On LSD" which was never short-listed for "Wildflowers" at any time but it seems that it may be an addition to "Wildflowers: All The Rest" nonetheless. =========== BEST CLASSIC BANDS has posted up a distillation of the news/information that was revealed this evening on SiriusXM's "Tom Petty Radio".
