  1. https://www.discogs.com/Rudolph-Johnson-The-Second-Coming/release/3492819 So I picked through an old man's collection a couple years back and picked this up for relatively cheap. $5-10, easy buy. It was VG and I cared more about flipping my money and getting $50 for it. Fast forward a couple months ago, had the opportunity to dig through a shop's dead stock that recently closed here. Found it again. It's a promo so I toyed with the idea of flipping it, but there's a scratch that causes a skip. Since I can't sell it, I'll keep it. This time it was only $3. I haven't heard a bad album on the Black Jazz label:
  2. I don't think anyone is getting rich off anything (except for a label who own's the rights), but $40 for a new record is a buzzkill. But it's where we're at. Glad I got a first pressing.
  3. I'm looking forward to the Early Recordings. I had to ship it to my parent's house because I don't know where I'll be in October! [I'm moving but not sure on the date because it's pending a job.]
  4. Stupid gimmick is ... stupid. To the actual discussion on the man: I'm not licensed to diagnose behavioral health conditions, but by all accounts, he's seems legitimately bipolar. I work in social services and spent time around all types of people with varying degrees of issues and he fits the description perfectly. From Wiki: Bipolar disorder, previously known as manic depression, is a mental disorder characterized by periods of depression and abnormally elevated moods.[4][5][7] If the elevated mood is severe or associated with psychosis, it is called mania; if it is less severe, it is called hypomania.[4] During mania, an individual behaves or feels abnormally energetic, happy, or irritable.[4] Individuals often make impulsive decisions with little regard for the consequences.[5] There is usually a reduced need for sleep during manic phases.[5] During periods of depression, individuals may experience crying, a negative outlook on life, and poor eye contact with others.[4] The risk of suicide is high; over a period of 20 years 6% of people died by suicide, while 30–40% engaged in self-harm.[4] Other mental health issues, such as anxiety disorders and substance use disorders, are commonly associated with bipolar disorder.[4]
  5. Posting in a moonbeams thread... Yeah, good stuff. Nice job!
  6. I haven't bought any Lips stuff since The Terror because I'm just tired of the what I perceive to be the same sound constantly rehashed by them. That said, I kind of like that religion song posted.
  7. ^^^ Haha, nope! In my observation, the people who are crazy about AEF and Splinter and like it the most are hardcore Xian's would wished the band had never become as cryptic about their faith.
  8. To be fair, I glossed over that because I don't even remember his spot in the band. Was that the very first vocalist?
  9. Early Recordings looks like fun. I think Dan is the best vocalist Zao has had, but Shawn carried his own. I'm not rebuying AEF. I'm going to eventually rebuy WBAFBR but prob not now. And I'm going to come across Splinter somewhere cheap at some point. I've been chasing it too long.
  10. Paypal advertises that they protect the seller, but it just isn't the case universally. I have a personal experience where the buyer claimed he only received an empty box. I had no way to prove I didn't mail an empty box. So, fucked there. Plus I've heard enough horror stories from sellers to have this personal policy. There are some places here and FB groups where requesting the buyer to send goods & services is mandatory and I'm obligated to abide by that and I do. But if I get a random message from someone who discovers a thread of mine from a couple years ago and offers to buy a record, then I'm going to do what makes me feel comfortable. I get an email and conduct the business off the boards. Technically I possess the potential to screw the buyer by just taking the money and keeping the record. But why would I do that? It's not worth the money to tarnish a nearly perfect record of selling online since 2003. Someone coming in here and trashing a seller can hurt their business. I'm not going to do that. But I also am not going to leave myself open to be taken if I'm selling on my own space.
  11. I typically only ask for people to pay friends/family when I don't know the person or they don't have an established presence on the boards.
  12. I bought the 2xLP and played it once. But I don't want to let it go. It's a pivotal album of my teenage years. That said, I've been streaming while I do my daily drive and having a blast singing along for about a week straight right now.
  13. I still listen to Field Manual every once in a while. Still holds up.
  14. I got a few copies of this when Neil at Anchorless in 2009 sold off a bunch of the limited stuff. I didn't know when it came out and I missed it completely. It was something I coveted. Once I heard it, I was underwhelmed to say the least.
  15. I had one previously (might have been sealed, can't remember) and I traded it for some other $100 LP I wanted more. I popsike'd sealed A Mark, A Mission's and at one point they were selling for $150+. That reissue helped the price go down significantly.
  16. I just won a sealed copy of the first press of A Mark, A Mission... on ebay for $20 + shipping. I would buy this in a heartbeat for nostalgia.
  17. I love much of the Starflyer catalog. But none of these releases in the past ten years have really moved me in any way. Perhaps it's just age. Changing of the Guard was fine and had some really great moments. But man, I just don't care any more.
  18. I've lived in New Orleans for about 15 years so there are things like Hey Pocky A-Way and They All Ask'd For You which are just staples during anything associated with the city and we hear them day in and day out, like during Mardi Gras. It's one of those things that just becomes background at this point. I didn't realize it was on this album, which is interesting. Rejuvenation came out in 1974, but Pocky sounds older to me, like mid to late 60's. So all that to say, I'm extremely tired of it at this point, haha.
  19. When I sold records in Jackson, MS late last year, I picked up this Meters record for $10. I freaked because Meters records are never available for reasonable prices. But it has sat in my 'to be listened to' pile all this time because it's not one of their first four LP's which are the standouts. There are some weaker songs on here, for sure, but I might have found my favorite fucking Meters song in this jam here. Produced by the man himself, Allen Toussaint:
  20. Wrestlemania managed to have a few great matches (Becky and Baszler, Charlotte and Ripley, Bryan and Zayn, Edge and Orton, etc). But there was so much shit show, which, admittedly, wouldn't have been in an abundance if there had been a live crowd.
