  1. Can I ask a very basic question, what is the advantage of buying a mid or high end turntable? From playing bass for years, I understand amps and speakers, with Ohms, harmonic distortion, frequency response etc, but when it comes to turntables, if it turns it works right? I’m sure there is much more to it than that, however being as naive as I am about turntables I’d like to ask some of you guys about this before talking to some salesperson that just wants my money. I’d be willing to drop some cash on a nice setup, I’d just like to understand the theory behind turntables before buying a good one. BTW, right now I’m running some old AKAI turntable through my computer speakers.
  2. Yeh, Tim’s great. The first time I saw him and his band with Smoke or Fire (awesome band btw), and the second Tim was just him, his sister and Josh Small. When I saw him the second time I bought them each a beer and they were so appreciative. Then Tim and I talked about trains (I’m a geek, what can I say) for a good half-hour. To me, Tim, his music and Vinyl Collective personifies everything that is good in the DIY scene, that people that are down to earth and true to themselves can still find success and fulfillment in this crazy, consumerist world we live in. I feel that I am truly lucky to have been exposed to his music and to be a part of the community, even in a small way.
  3. I saw a post on Punknews regarding Tim Barry's new album (at the time), Rivana Junction. I downloaded it off Oink (gasp), and it quickly became on of my favourite albums. I decided that I had to have it on vinyl, and basically I figured I'd order it from the actual record label as opposed to Interpunk or whatnot. It started from there. On a somewhat related note, I've seen Tim twice live at this point, both amazing shows. The last show was in front of maybe 20 people, and after talking with Tim it became obvoius how down to earth and nice he really is.
  4. So do you know the breakdown numbers-wise of all the versions Patron?
  5. Wow, thats crazy. But hey, I know what the vinyl bug is like, if you like the band and have extra cash, why not.
  6. I was at the show today, it was great. They had Chris Murphy from Sloan on stage to sign a few tracks. As for the 7', I picked up two, one for me and one for my buddy. They were gift wrapped really nicely, I undid the rapping on mine, I left it on for my friends. I got the cover with the boy in the suit crying. And there no limit to the amount one could buy. It was funny, Pink Eyes said "Hey everyone, buy three; one to keep wrapped, one to open, and one to sell on EBay. I don't care what you do with them, I say buy low, sell high"!
  7. Hey, just letting you guys know, I ordered mine a good ten hours after it went on sale, I live in Canada, and I got a coloured copy in the mail this week. I got one of the grey/purple copies myself. The funny thing is that although I'm a fan of NOFX, I can't say that I'm a 'super-fan' by any means. I was shocked to see that on of these went for over $100 on Ebay. But I'm not going to be one of those people that buy something just to turn around and sell it. Might be good trade bait though.
