  1. I don't understand why this is so hard to find. Wasn't 2000 pressed?
  2. Your main problem with this amp won't be the the tubes, it's going to be dried electrolytic caps and/or faulty or drifted components. The odds are, the preamp tubes (the small ones) are fine. The power tubes are probably cathode biased which tend to run hot and might need to be replaced. I'd suggest JJ brand 7591A's. You should really take it to a tech.
  3. Dealing with licensing from Deep Elm is supposedly less pleasant thank smashing your balls in a screen door.
  4. I'm not sure if it's been addressed, but you haven't changed RCA cables recently? Here's a dumb suggestion; try placing a CD or DVD under the Mani. If that doesn't work, try putting one on top as well.
  5. Seems obvious, but have you reached out to Schiit and asked them?
  6. Ugh. I just paid $75 (which is the cheapest I've seen it since I'd been looking for it) for a copy of BSL two weeks ago. FML.
  7. Last I was in Houston, there were zero good record stores. That was about 15 years ago, though. I hope things have changed since.
  8. Reason to Believe was great, Sense Field was great, his Further Seems Forever record was good, War Generation was good, Lucky Scars was okay, but what's most is he was a great dude. It should have been Fat Mike.
  9. Well, the power button is necessary since it would burn out the tubes otherwise.
  10. My stereo has a power button, mute, mono, input select, volume, and a bunch of tubes.
  11. Was I dreaming, or was there once an anal listing of all pressing info on the No Idea web page? If I wasn't imagining it, did anyone happen to save it before it was removed?
  12. Either the record is damaged or you have some pretty extreme mistracking, which is usually indicative of an improperly aligned cartridge (which is how records get damaged like that to begin with). Look into "turntable setup" on Google and Youtube and it will give you a good idea of what and how you want to proceed.
  13. I agree, but I also have an issue with it being seen as a touchstone hi-fi product. They're arguably the best known turntable, but I think that without the advent of hip hop and scratching, that wouldn't be the case. I also think that a lot of people new to turntables look at this table and think, "this table is considered 'the best' (again, by people who don't know much about turntables), therefore direct drive, 'S' shaped tone arms, and bells and whistles are preferable." when we know this isn't the case.
  14. http://www.analogplanet.com/content/new-technics-sl-1200gae-not-your-fathers-old-technics-sl-1200mk2#PiBaVcveSY2MDXA1.97 So, there are some decent upgrades, however I still think you could spend that money better elsewhere.
  15. I wish Merge would reissue the s/t and "Last Dog And Pony Show" on vinyl. Those were great records.
  16. I discovered the Appleseed Cast when LLO came out. Their best work, by far.
  17. Oh shit, does it? I hope it has built in USB and a phono preamp. Time has passed this design by. Why would someone spend good money on this when that good money is better spent with a company like VPI?
  18. Admirably, there's little to no surface noise, but there's sort of a haziness to everything.
