I had read that the Saosin discord has them talking about re-recording the Self Titled album in a "Taylor's Version" move in order to get rights to it. I'm hoping the rumored ST press is the original.

Honestly, very few of the re-recorded albums we've seen as of late have been what I personally would consider great. I find it hard to buy them, even if it's an OOP release, where I would love to have some version of it to spin. Sonically, it's not what I remember or want.

I absolutely get the point of doing it, but they just don't generally hold up to the lightning in a bottle that was the original in most cases.

  2. Definitely slowed down a bit. Still picked up quite a few things, but nothing like the couple years prior. Rising costs was one factor, another was the fact that my 5x5 Kallax is almost full. Plus I had some other hobbies that took up some of the cash I may have spent on vinyl normally.

As far as stuff I got that I was pretty excited about goes, it was the year of long overdue represses. Or stuff coming onto vinyl for the first time. Did manage to snag a few older things I have wanted for years too!

    • Refuse- Demo '89 / All three variants, including the test pressing. Pretty obscure if you aren't a Northwest Hardcore nerd. The band eventually evolved into Undertow. First time on vinyl, or any other format outside of the original home-dubbed demo cassettes.
    • Rilo Kiley - Under the Blacklight (RSD Repress)
    • NFG - Calalyst (First Pressing... finally)
    • Kimya Dawson - Remember That I Love You (Repress)
    • His Hero is Gone - The Plot Sickens: Enslavement Redefined (1998 Pressing)
    • Sunny Day Real Estate - The Rising Tide (2000 Pressing)

What was the pricing on their merch?  Now I'm curious.

I have a ticket for Philly tonight that I'm on the fence about going for, but I'm definitely hitting Starland on Saturday for that stacked lineup.

Do it. I saw them twice. It was absolutely worth it, especially after waiting 20 nearly years.

  4. I'll just echo what everyone has said, pretty much.

Seattle: Singles Going Steady and Zion's Gate will be your best bet for metal and hardcore, by far. Singles will be your best bet for local stuff, too. Zion's Gate is indeed a little on the high end price wise, but they have good stuff. Lots of cool bootleg stuff too. Also, check out the Light in the Attic store inside of KEXP. Always some rad gems in there.

Portland: 2nd Ave will have the best selection of those genres. Landfill Rescue Unit also had some really cool stuff last time I stopped in.

I have to admit that the production/mix on the two released tracks seem a bit off to me.  The guitars seem buried in the mix during the chorus in "History Books", which makes it lacking in that usual chorus punch we hear in TGA songs. Maybe I'm just nitpicking. So great that Bruce is on the track. Must have been a dream for the band.

No, you're right. These sound like more polished demos or something. And that style doesn't seem to be lending them any favors.

I was excited to hear they were back - I've tried really hard to like both of these songs. There's just something that doesn't hit with me. They sound off.

Getting Bruce is pretty cool, though.

  6. The best part is that there are a bunch of "updated" versions of this song all over Youtube that do it way better than FOB did.

I honestly love the original version of this song. I've had a soft part for it since junior year of high school, when our English teacher had us pick a topic from the song and write an essay on it. I'm pretty sure it was our final.

I picked Punk Rock, and proceeded to write a 10 page paper about the mainly the Misfits. Aced it, too. 🤣
