  1. I was 13 when I started listening to punk and buying records (I say 'buy' and not collect cause I only bought them as an alternative to CDs as well as some weird obsession with the format). I'm from Kiev, Ukraine and my parents were very into "Ukrainian" music, which is basically Gogol bordello minus the punk element. Needless to say they had no idea what punk even was, and thought I was listening to the "devil's music". They complained a lot about it which only got worse once I joined bands and held practice in my basement. It was mostly just annoying because I was old enough to understand that they couldn't because it was something so foreign to them. Plus many of the bands in the genre are pretty 'anti-Christian'. Still, I only kept to the ones who weren't blatantly bashing on my religion. My Dad is a real "techy" kind of guy and to this day can't figure out why I still buy a format that he hasn't in decades.
  2. Nov. 2002 Phantom Planet @The Trocodero in Philadelphia, PA (in terms of amazing live act) March 2006 The Silver Jews @ The Otto Bar in Baltimore, MD (in terms of overall show, not to mention it was their first tour ever and they've been around for well over a decade)
  3. I can't figure out how to edit stores, also I think it would be better to have them arranged by state than store name. I could just be looking at all of it wrong. No problems updating the Vinyl though, just store for some reason.
  4. coldwind was really good. I can't remember the last time he was on this board though.

  6. seriously though, is dancing/dance parties the new "indie" thing. My friends at the University of Delaware and others in Philly are always throwing these fucking things. No offense to anyone who's down with this. I guess I just miss the old days of 'indie' kids just snobbing around with their noses in the air. Maybe I'm jealous cause I can't dance, who knows, honestly I'll take the standard issue college 'kegger' over a dance party anyday.
  7. Oh man, don't tell me you're an Office snob. I work with someone who prides herself on having never seen the U.S. Office and talks about how "amazing" the U.K. version is so the U.S. one "must be inferior." Puh-lease. Both shows are hilarious and compelling for different reasons. When I got really into the U.S. Office I decided to rent the U.K. version with my sister and about 10 minutes into the first episode we both looked at each other like "I don't understand a single word anyone has said". I guess the british accent is like a foreign language to me. On the topic of Man v. Wild, I only recently heard the rumor that he sleeps in hotels, regardless here's what is true: 1. It's stated at the beginning of every episode that he has a whole camera crew with him. To me this means theres no 'survivor' aspect to the show if you have 3 camera men and a producer with you. 2. The shit he does would kill a man in a real life situation. Survivorman actually teaches you how to SURVIVE, man v. wild teaches you how to walk around and do dumb shit until nothing happens. One episode he jumped into a frozen lake in the arctic. What the fuck. And the episode where he was in the desert he walked into a dead end at the bottom of a canyon and climbed up using his hands. Thanks superhero, next time I'm trapped in the desert I'll make sure to train like a fucking navy seal before attempting escape. 3. Let's not forget the brilliant camera work. One episode he shows how to use some ropes and shit while your walking on snow so that if you fall into a cavern or some shit the rope will hold you up. The guy does it and is hanging there while the camera man is filming him from above which could have been no steeper than 5 feet. He then (while hanging) explains how its incredibly steep to the bottom while a camera man is standing with his camera pointed up inches away from him. Of course they never show the bottom of the drop.
  8. I agree, the home ec. scene was awesome, also every time Seth made fun of Mclovin (whatever his real name is) was amazingly hilarious
  9. Scrubs, The Office, Mythbusters, Survivor Man, (if anyone posts man vs. wild I'll smite the shit out of you, that man is a fraud), Spongebob Squarepants (I know it's lame, but more often then not there is actually some really funny stuff)
  10. Dude, I hear you on the fear of the dentist. When I was a kid my family was really poor and me and my brother would have to go with all the other inner city kids to the "free school district dentist". It was the worst thing in the world, low budget, low novicane teeth pulling nightmare. I didn't clean up my act in terms of tooth care, but I rarely go anymore. I also can't listen to waiting room top 40 adult contemporary from 1990-1995 without crying on the inside.
  11. I posted the topic about my turntable speed and if I can't fix it by the end of the week I'm going to buy a new turntable. I checked out amazon and found this to be the best reviewed in my price range. http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-AT-PL120-Professional-Direct-Drive-Turntable/dp/B00012EYNG/ref=sr_1_18/002-9885821-8567252?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1187620244&sr=1-18 I'm not thrilled with it being direct drive (but I don't mind) and I've been spoiled by a fully automatic table which this is not. I really like the pitch control and tone arm adjust-ability. I'm concerned with the cartridge it comes with though. Any insight or other table recommendations would be great, I'm trying to keep it below $250.
  12. Thanks guys, I guess I'll do it up this semester
  13. I still don't understand rhubarb, is it like the platypus of vegetables?
  14. yeah, i don't have the light set up either, I think I'll try looking for the screw tomorrow, might help
  15. I have Third Eye Blind saved on my XM receiver so that if it's playing on any station it lets me know... and the Goo Goo Dolls.
  16. When I first read this I thought you wrote that you find Andy Milonakis attractive.
  17. I'm moving into an on-campus apartment for my last semester of college and I got some new releases that I would really like to take to school with me. My problem is that on-campus housing has no air conditioning and I always fear my records will warp or melt or something. This fear is pretty unfounded seeing as freshman year I had my records and player at school with no problems. Still, is there an issue with heat? how hot does it have to be for things to go wrong?
  18. lol, If you have an older bro you could get that tattoo and call him the test pressing
  19. When I listen to some of the music on CD that I have on vinyl it sounds like the music is slower on the CD. I think my record player spins a little faster than 33 1/3 rpm. Honestly I think it makes the record sound a little better. I realized this a while back but today I listened to an mxpx record on CD that I've only listened to on vinyl since I got it in 1999 and the slower CD version bothered me. side note: I read somewhere that the Beatles would slightly speed up their masters to up the pitch a little and make it more poppier Regardless, I'd still like my record player to be accurate. I know some turntables have pitch control but mine is the fully automatic kind. Anyway to fix this?
  20. When I was a kid I ate a crap load of cherry pie one night and then puked it all up. Hated it ever since. Not all pie, just cherry. Actually cherry preserve anything, other pies such as apple and pumpkin are good. I voted cake. If I could have only one, it'd be cake.
  21. uhh, why isn't there a track off of "through being cool -or- I'm sorry I'm leaving" on there? That gets more ladies than "I have a box of wine in my room, wanna go up?"
  22. psh, I'm unimpressed, that turtle is neither teenaged, mutant, or any sort of a ninja.
