  1. What a fun day! Always stoked on whatever these guys are doing. I'd love some more Limbeck though.
  2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Koenig In his memory, this is now officially the Growing Pains thread.
  3. That's probably true. Most of those color effects need to be done on a hand-operated press, rather than the big automatic presses, which are a lot faster. There's still a lot of plants out there to work with despite this. I pressed my first record with them though, and it was a great experience. That was 2007, and now I use plants in California because I can go pick them up. Plants are pretty slammed all over at the moment. Also, because this is fun to think about: My parents are baby-boomers, but they traded out their records for CD's and tapes. I was born in 86. Didn't know records were a thing until I saw them in a movie. Seeing them in a movie made me want to seek them out, so I started collecting around 1999 when I found some neat 45s (Nirvana, blink 182 "lemmings" on yellow and Foo Fighters "Big Me" on red) at our local record shop in San Diego. Then I got a cheap radio shack turntable for my birthday that year.
  4. Daaaammmn. Extremely jealous I missed that fuck up on amazon's part.
  5. Sure. It was for a war bond effort, so I'm assuming any shelling would've done.
  6. I think it would be hard to argue that World War One was insignificant.
  7. Dude, Topshelf totally gets a pass on the Anchorman jokes. Seriously, thanks so much for releasing amazing stuff consistently. I'm still rocking the hell out of the new Braid album. Also, my favorite spot for burritos in SD is Cotixan. They have like 7 locations around SD now, but they're all fantastic. Recommend that red-orange sauce. Pokez is rad. Las Cuatro Milpas in Barrio Logan is amazing, but they're only open from 9 am until 3 pm. Get there early, because there's a huge line around lunch time. But it's totally worth it. Handmade tortillas, same day and fresh.
  8. Seriously, as much as I love that movie, all the bands rolling through doing Anchorman jokes got old really quickly. I remember Soma had a poster backstage that said "No Anchorman Jokes" with Ron Burgundy crossed out. It was an important thing to have.
  9. Dang, I do like the idea of that label being closer to me on the west. This will be awesome addition to San Diego, wish I still lived there.
  10. Plus, it's made of shellac. I'd take extra care with it, that material can get brittle and shatter.
  11. Social Media, boards, email lists, and one time, following Converge on Spotify. The fact that it was streaming meant it was available to order, so score.
  12. Can't believe I've been sleeping on these guys. Just came across the pre-order via the Deathwish site. Those bandcamp tracks got me hooked, ordered right away from React. Haven't been this excited about a new HC band in a long time.
  13. You can order some from Bags Unlimited, but their uncoated jackets have to be order in bulk. I always order mine for Dorado Press. Great quality, low minimums : http://doradopkg.com/Record-Jackets/12-Record-Jackets/12-Blank-Jackets.html Just make sure to order them uncoated, so the ink / paint will soak in. Use these for the test pressings for the label. Let's me do some fun stuff with 'em.:
  14. Always sells out real quick. I remember missing out on Deathbeds 3 times until Wes had an eBay sale.
  15. Vinyl is vastly different. The format is several decades older than any of those media you mentioned. When those new formats were introduced, their standards were established quickly, and they're in place. There were a lot of variations on machines, processes, and materials. There's room for a lot of interesting innovation like color and splatter effects, but also room for a lot of mistakes. The last vinyl pressing machines were produced in the 1980's. There are no more brand new machines, they're antiquated and don't always function correctly, even when maintained very well. With the high demand for vinyl now, there's a high demand on these machines. All the machines are overworked, with a ton of records to produce. Accidents can happen easily, especially when you have to worry about a ton of other releases. That can be applied to the manufacturer or the label itself. Sometimes it's easily fixed, sometimes it needs a whole new pressing because of someone overlooking something. I think people might think you're trolling because a lot of this information could be found with the most basic of searches. Like Wikipedia easy, man. Coupled with common sense, of course.
  16. My cat would scratch some old records I had in a crate near my desk. It was all thrift store stuff, so it wasn't too bad. I put a cardboard filler pad on top to stop her. She stopped completely when I got the Expedit. Maybe a mailer pad mighty help on the front of the Expedit if you're concerned about it happening again. But perhaps the dog is smarter than my cat...
  17. Seriously, I forgot about the days where there was no tracking for that. I'd blocked it out of my memory apparently.
  18. That's awesome you picked the New Order RSD release there! Yeah, it's always been a place where I have to dig for punk and indie stuff. When I was regularly there, I'd always snag something cool. But since it's downsized, whenever I go randomly, it's hit or miss. Lou has a collection of "rainy day" used stuff. OG punk pressings of Misfits, DK, Bad Relgiion, etc. Occasionally, he throws some of it out on the floor. I'm probably pretty bias though. I will always back that place and Lou for giving me a job, and treating me fairly. Even if a lot of other employees would mock my interest in Alkaline Trio, Saves the Day, Promise Ring, Gatsbys and Jimmy Eat World. I think I was the only person on staff who was stoked when they came to do a signing for Futures.
