The National - A Lot of Sorrow - 9LP set
seafoamgreen replied to gmoney's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
This is some top notch trolling of their fans in the name of "art stuff." Only ICP has done it better (though in the name of being idiots). Bravo, band everyone seems to like a lot I guess! -
Welp, I've hit my limit. Love this band but I cannot justify paying $45 for a record and a t-shirt. Maybe I'll catch them on tour I guess.

PO : Modest Mouse - Strangers to Ourselves
seafoamgreen replied to GazHilarant's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
Gave it my first listen last night. "Pistol" is, by all accounts and measures, fucking intolerable. Almost as intolerable as a Ween song. (I went for the easy joke- I don't actually dislike Ween that much). I'm really digging most the rest of the record though. Some tracks I actually thought, "This is some of the best Modest Mouse I've ever heard." And I never said that about anything on the last album. We'll see how often it makes the rotation though... guessing about as much as the last one which is pretty much never. Or it could be my summer record the way Good News was 10 years ago even though a bunch of douchebags ruined it by liking it or whatever. -
PO NOW: Make Do and Mend - Don't Be Long
seafoamgreen replied to alogical's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
A lot of fans thought Everything You Ever Loved was overproduced or too mainstream or too slick or polished or whatever. I agreed at first but eventually came to love it- listened to it this morning instead of the new one, actually. If you find yourself sensitive to that sort of thing (as in, you think Caution was too slick like many people did), I'd say the new album would be more to your liking. -

Haven't heard many recent thoughts on this record. I just gave this my third or fourth listen and... I really like the songs, but dude's voice sounds wrecked to me. Some songs I find myself thinking, "Was that really the best vocal take they got in the can?" I realize they're going for a more "raw" and "stripped down" sound because people hated on the last record (I liked it almost as much as EMM, for the record) but sometimes the vocals sound just... off. Any other thoughts on this record now that it's had time to sit? -
PO SOON: The Early November - Imbue
seafoamgreen replied to gmoney's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I'm fine with a t-shirt and stickers (remember when these came free with your order?!) and whatnot but Jebus help me if I ever think a cassette tape is a reasonable thing to spend money on. I didn't even like them when they were the most convenient format. No sense in complaining about bundles though as they're here to stay... just wish I knew if that 7" was worth the hassle of having to buy a coffee mug and all the other less functional nonsense. -

Anyone know what's on that 7" other than the title track? -

I came late to TEN and loved the last record, despite glaring problems with the mix and truly awful lyrics. I'm curious to hear this new record because I tried really hard to get into the earlier albums after loving In Currents and none of it stuck at all for me. I know I'm in the minority there and have accepted it as a failing of my taste rather than the quality of those records. I'm like those people who think Good Mourning and Bleed American are better records than those that came before them so what I'm saying is I'm the worst. -
Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs pressings thoughts?
seafoamgreen replied to STÖNCÜLD's topic in Vinyl Collective Message Board
I'll second the positive review of Songs from the Big Chair. Granted, my bargain bin OG had tons of surface noise and tiny scratches so any new copy would beat it I'm sure. The recent Dylan MoFi presses I have sound excellent but, yes, very quiet. I assume by design and there's no surface noise to speak of. Can't believe I passed on Sea Change a million times when it was new because I had an original... sells for a ton now so I guess it's well-respected. -

Cannot believe lazylabrador is still a topic on this message board. Hilarious that she made a business out of THE HOBBY -
Two people downvoted this but it got a chuckle out of me! I'm one of the lucky ones as well- no real issue with either of my two giant orders. Sounds like the gravy train may be leaving the station though. Bummer if so- I've saved no less than $75 on records I was going to buy anyway.
