I do like that smoke version more, yeah.  I think above all else, I'm just moderately annoyed that no one has said or discovered anything going on with this "mixup".  I even tried reaching out to the band to no avail – not that I was expecting a response.  Once again, it's just unnecessarily secretive and I really don't get it.

That said, at least the replacement splatter is of the nicer splatter variety, in my opinion.  I dig TMR's "edge" splatter.  A lot more than the streaky dump that everyone else is going with these days.  Still think that mystery swirl better compliments the album though.

"We've been keeping this as quiet as possible, so please exercise the same caution. The jade swirl version was supposed to go directly to the band to do with as they please. I do not know what the band will do with the records once we get them sent over. We want to respect the wishes of our artists to the best of our ability, which is why we are so dead-set on getting these variants returned to us."

There's mentions of it in all three of the posted variants, before posting I hadn't noticed it being mentioned in the black but it popped up there too that was my main curiosity I guess.  Most people just comment on noise issues that are understandable with something with such long quiet sections

I don't see comments regarding pressing issues other than the jade variant. A couple of comments that it was mastered too low appear under the black vinyl pressing, but nothing about bad or noisy pressings. Some even rave about how good it sounds.

After spending a couple listens with the "mistake" variant, there's a sort of a troubling "whooshing" noise, especially noticeable throughout Side A, I see on discogs that this is a not uncommon issue.  I'm wondering if anyone with the other variants, especially just regular black could comment on the noise level of their pressing.  Debating about whether or not to send this back in hopes of a better sounding pressing or if this issue is just across the board and I just keep the one that looks the best.  Third man is so hit or miss with the quality issues

I don't see on Discogs where this is a common problem. Where are you seeing that info?

I wouldn't send it back.  It's truly bizarre to me that TMR are actually trying to recall it, instead of just apologizing that this “batch” didn’t turn out as intended.  It makes me suspect that the swirl is part of a limited, designated run – i.e. a tour version, or band exclusive, etc. – and that they want to get as much inventory restored as possible.  No matter how you slice it, though, someone at TMR really fucked up.

I'm not sending it back. You are correct in your assumption that it is a band exclusive.  I had an issue with TMR regarding a glitch in their system that made me believe I was still Vault member. Even after admitting it was a problem on their end, it was insisted that I should have known and they were not at liberty to do anything about it. Based on that exchange, I'm keeping their fuck up. I am interested to see what 7" they send people who return their copy.

That's mighty interesting and is starting to make a little more sense.  It still leaves the question open... what are those copies supposed to be?  An "artist exclusive" or "band version"?  And if so, when and where are they going to be made available?  I wonder what the wait is for – it feels like the hype window for Flood on vinyl has already come and gone.

When I reached out to Third Man because I had received the wrong pressing, I asked what this variant was and received no response. I'm not sure that I'm sending mine back.

  6. I can't believe some of the advice being doled out regarding "customer service." You don't need to take your listings down or rush out to ship something the next day just because it's Christmas. If someone demands that you ship immediately because they couldn't get their shit together in time to order something, fuck them.

It's always the guy who buys the $2 7" who wants it tomorrow. The entitlement generation is the worst.

This isn't a big deal but I just thought I'd mention this. Some guy on Discogs just left me neutral feedback claiming "slow shipping" since his media mail package took over 2 weeks to arrive during a pandemic. Now, since March I've sold a ton of records, some took 2-3 weeks, some took 4 weeks but everyone was super cool and patient and I've only had one return this whole time (which was completely my fault). To those of you who've been patient with sellers during this mess, especially with media mail, THANK YOU!

That's ridiculous. I shipped a record from Brooklyn to Brooklyn that took three weeks to arrive and the guy was super cool about it. Everyone has also been good with  shipping only once a week. I'm still waiting for a record from Australia that was shipped in March. It's not the seller's fault so why would I blame him for the delay? Whoever left you that feedback is a cunt.

This change is long overdue. Discogs always seemed antiquated in that you often had to commit to buy something with no idea how much the shipping would cost, leaving you at the mercy of the seller.

When you have some sellers charging $12 for international shipping, and some charging $27 to ship the same LP, it was always ridiculous that you had to ‘commit’ before ordering or send them a DM first and risk someone else buying. (Don’t get me started on how bad Discogs sellers are at responding to messages)

Regarding paying seller fees immediately, I think that’s the more contemporary way to do it - I know eBay still invoices, but most selling platforms just take it out immediately. The seller fees invoice seems like an unnecessary added step to me, they probably find themselves chasing down too many sellers whose payment methods bounce.

Most often, shipping costs are listed in the seller's terms so I don't know why you wouldn't know how much they would charge.
