  1. Saucony Kinvaras for long runs and half marathons Saucony Mirage, Brooks Pure Cadence, and Brooks Pure Connect for easy runs Brooks Racer ST for speed, 5ks and 10ks
  2. I can't pace a race without a watch, either go way to fast or to slow. I've got the Garmin 620 a couple months back and I really enjoy it. I don't have all the screens set-up like I want yet.
  3. What watch did you go with? I ran a race with my watch, but it died and it was a miserable race. So smart choice on having a backup. I have only ran 1 race with my hr monitor. Thinking about wearing it on my next half, but who knows.
  4. I wouldn't do the specific hill workouts every week throughout your training. Just for a few weeks (3 or 4) since your already running hills. Then, after those I would just incorporate hill workouts with your everyday runs each week. Just attack the hills with a little speed and continue on with your run. Dave can you post an elevation chart of your usual route?
  5. Yeah, it is beneficial. That sounds like a hill sprint. Hill sprints are shorter with a higher grade hill. Repeats a longer run with a lower grade hill. Alternate 1 week with hill sprint and then 1 a hill repeat. Also, increase reps each week. I love hills. They make you such a better runner.
  6. I was really pleased with the PPV overall. Also, to everyone watching on the stream, I didn't have any problems but 5 or 6 times my stream would backtrack 2 or 3 seconds and then be perfect.
  7. I usually do hill sprints or hill repeats after a break and I am working on building back up my fitness. Fortunately (or unfortunately however you look at it) all the routes I run have hills on them so I usually don't do specific hill sprints or repeats throughout my training. I would say you should definitely run them. I would add in some hill repeats and sprints for a few weeks and then work on some speed workouts. (what races are you running depend on what kind of speed workouts should you run) Right now add some fartlek runs with your regular runs (start out with 4 or 5 speed burst during your easy runs for 15-30 seconds and keep increasing how many and duration the following weeks)
  8. I didn't know you could gargle peroxide until a couple days ago, read it on the bottle. My mind was blown.
  9. way to get out there and put some miles in Dave. My legs were achy yesterday, but I was still able to get a little speedwork in. Would have liked to get at least one more interval in, but I didn't think it would have been the smartest thing.
  10. I would go to a specialty running store and see what they say. They will probably put you on a treadmill and watch your running form and be able to help you out. Make sure you bring your shoes with you, cause they can also look at them and see from your shoes if there is enough wear. I've had a pretty good week running so far. Yesterday's long run I though was going to kill me at the beginning. I had the day off so I wanted to try out a different route and miles 2-5 were the worst. The hills were a soul stealer and I was running them faster than I should have been. Thankfully, I was able to gut it out and miles 6-12 were the best series of miles in awhile. Felt really good about my cadence and my stride, I could have kept going, but I wanted to proceed with caution on upping my mileage.
  11. The 5k yesterday was pretty rough, the last hill was a killer. Really enjoyed the race and had a good turnout. Finished in 19:51, 5th overall and 1st in my age group. Now I have to get out and do a 6 miler.
  12. I would say your pace is to fast. Have you run a race recently? I would day slow your pace down and see how you feel. Most half marathon plan are 16-18 weeks. So, you should be training for it now. I would just concentrate on increasing volume safely. A long run is a must, a speed work out and the rest easy runs.
  13. This thread has been to quiet lately. Got in a good 9 miler in yesterday (watch was acting weird and wouldn't upload wirelessly) and it is the best I've felt for awhile. Everything seemed to be clicking, my stride felt good and my cadence was good. Got a race tomorrow. Would like to keep it under 20, but it is pretty hilly I believe. Anyone else got any races this weekend?
  14. thanks. The Disney marathon. It's a win win, I am happy cause I get to run and my lady is happy cause she loves Disney. It isn't til January so I should be able to lower all my times.
  15. Signed up for my first marathon yesterday. I have plenty of time to train for it and increase my mileage. Hoping to qualify for Boston. Who knows.
  16. USA USA USA. I need to get over this calf injury and get my miles back up. Hoping this week I'll be able to get a full week of raining without setbacks.
  17. I was able to grill out yesterday, and I couldn't have been happier.
  18. I would assume it is a different guy, cause this dude used a shotgun I believe.
  19. I haven't ran a lot this last week, still trying to heal up from the half marathon. I did run a 5k on Saturday, my goal was under 20:00 and I finished it in 19:30. I would like to run today, but I think 1 more rest day might be better. Who know we will see. Good job everybody!
  20. Yeah, you should be fine running one. It might not be to pretty and you might not be feeling the best, but you can do it.
  21. what has your weekly mileage been looking like? How far have you gone on your long runs recently?
