  1. According to Discogs, this silver press of Fake Train is the same cut as both the box and the black stand alone. Some of the stand alone black and color represses have been recut and by most accounts the recuts are improvements. Even more of a reason for me to pass on the precious, beautiful, cool looking, must have for true fans silver vinyl version.
  2. Unwound being my one of my (top 5) favorite bands of all time makes it hard not to “collect” everything they put out, but I didn’t even pull the trigger on the CD set when it went on mega sale at one point, so at least I know I have some self control. And I do like having hard copies of things I love. Streaming can be funny sometimes with licensing and remasters taking the place of original versions.
  3. I can agree, and why I acknowledged that it was cool to see them on color and can shrug and move on (or grit my teeth and act like I don’t want it and move on 😉). And there is a difference in keeping things in print and eventually doing a color vinyl press vs planned releases that use specific language (exclusive) to manipulate and influence fans to buy each release without telling them about PLANNED future releases that may appeal to said fans. Clouds Hill/TMV did a real number on their fans and this is NOT the same thing.
  4. Would I buy a box set? Sadly, probably. I think about buying the cd box set every once in a while.
  5. Damn. I just saw that Fake Train is on silver. I want all these on color, but I don’t need it at all. I have multiple copies (OP, box, reissues on black) and I’m not happy with this kind of release schedule where the fan gets taken advantage of. It seems there are a few labels/bands that don’t mind taking advantage of its fans. Sorry to see that Numero is doing this for the unwound catalog. At the same time it’s cool to see these on color. So, yeah, I may as well just shrug my shoulders and move on.
  6. For some reason I really like this album. The production is pretty bad and the mastering is terrible, but I guess there’s some good songs under all that garbage. If I knew this might sound better than the OP CD I’d go for it. For now I’ll wait and hopefully still be able to find one if the reviews are positive.
  7. Cleopatra put out the recent reissue of Danzig 5. I think I read a few positive things about it. But yeah, Cleopatra doesn’t have a great reputation.
  8. As much as I like this album, it was built and recorded digitally, so I’ll play it digitally. Good price for 4LP these days too, Tool.
  9. I agree, and I had to think about it, but a lot of labels like Nuclear Blast and Metal Blade have been doing it for a while. i just looked at Carcass - Surgical Steel on Discogs and all the early color presses have numbered stickers on them. Again I don’t like it either, and the way these things are marketed I’m sure you were expecting something more permanent on the jacket.
  10. Never seen this. Edit: I take that back. I have seen it on stickers stating the color on the front.
  11. It’s not unprecedented as I passed on preordering The Color Before The Sun, but I am surprised that I don’t care about this and will wait until I digest the whole album and may get the indie variant if I like the album.
  12. I am not surprised. I am also not in the target market for this limited signed edition. These days, I don’t think a standard LP release even appeals to me if it’s going to be 5LP w/etchings on each side in a box. (Maybe $99 at best?) Not only do I despise etchings, but it’s the QC of vinyl that concerns me the most. And no, I don’t think “it’s so much worse these days.” All the flaws of vinyl playback have always been around. It all just gets accepted due to the love of vinyl or the improved mastering used for some LPs. This isn’t the kind of album that I’d like to roll the dice on and hope that there’s no recurring noise in the middle section of a song due to a pressing flaw.
  13. $70 for a 4LP set isn’t too bad these days. I hate typing that, but that’s where we are with vinyl.
  14. Gave the new song a listen, and Hunter’s Moon as well, just to give it another try. I probably won’t be ordering. Sound hasn’t been the same since the band fallout after Meliora. Not feeling the new stuff. First three albums are still killer.
  15. Great. Looks like I’ll need to open my replacement copy and inspect.
  16. I didn’t hate the last album, but I didn’t love it, either. Two songs would make a personal “Best of Coheed” playlist. As for new songs, Shoulders grew on me after a couple of listens, but Rise, Nianasha really didn’t appeal to me at all. Looking forward to hearing more. Hope it’s good.
  17. I just listened to the released song for this album about 6 times straight. After checking out a few songs by the band, the new one clicked and I really love it. thanks for posting about it! I’ll try to get the swamp green from my local.
  18. And if it follows all the others, a cheaper color variant will be released to stores.
  19. This is a good record, but I haven’t been listening to it as much as I thought I would. I should probably listen to it a couple more times.
  20. I didn’t see it is cheaper! Didn’t even think to look as Repetition from Newbury was more. I know clear is popular, and it’s great that options are there for people to choose. I don’t really buy the vinyl color/design is more likely to have sound problems. I know a lot of people talk about it, but my experience just doesn’t line up with black being better or solid being better than designs, etc. I have so many black vinyl records that are noisy or have defects and I also have dead quiet color designs. Besides, I had to go with Scarlette. Not only is the song awesome, but the video creeps me out.
