gentlesenator reacted to lexicondevil in Urban Outfitters Exclusive Vinyl & Sale Discussion
No, I don't think you were being homophobic. That wasn't your intent. You were very obviously being a fat shamer, which is a pretty dick thing to do. Shutting up might be a good plan for you, but you might also want to just evolve as a human being.

1. weight doesn't effect the sound of the record.
2. weight especially doesn't effect the sound of a picture disc. it is essentially two half pieces of clear vinyl glued together with printed paper inside. although picture discs feel real heavy, many times they have thinner grooves than regular weight records.

Just a general heads up regarding these comments: Invest in a $20 anti-static brush. (I like the one from MoFi, but there's cheaper ones.) I clean every record before AND after playing, and it makes a big difference. Next step is deep cleaning!! (Not there yet.)
And another solid investment is anti-static sleeves... The rice paper ones, or Discwasher. A pack of 50 is fairly cheap and I use them for any records that come in super-static-y sleeves. I'm not saying to throw the cool inner sleeves away.... Just store the actual vinyl in something a little bit better.

180 gram records do not have deeper grooves. They are made from the same stampers as lower weight records. The only sonic advantage of a 180 gram record would be if it is virgin vinyl, which it is supposed to be.
And techincally, black vinyl is colored vinyl. Vinyl is clear, graphite is added which makes it black.
If a colored record 'sounds like ass' it most likely not because it is on colored vinyl, it's because it is mastered or cut like ass.

Best =
Amazon. I know they've been panned in this thread, but hey, they came up with the "frustration free" mailer (which Third Man now uses, thankfully), plus returns are free and refunds are immediate.
Acoustic Sounds. For the pricey shit, these guys can't be beat. They ship FedEx, their mailers (which were Amazon's inspiration) are bulletproof, and the guys will walk back in the warehouse for you and look at stock while you're on the phone with them.
Juno.co.uk. How these guys are always able to get my vinyl across the Atlantic in perfect condition is a mystery, when I can't get the same thing from LA without it being trashed.
Mediocre =
Insound. Multiple emails required to get a response. Website is rarely accurate regarding what's in stock.
Bad =
ImportCDs (Super D, the largest distributor in the US). Guaranteed seam splits and/or bad corners in their slightly oversized shitty Bags Unlimited mailers. Returns are on your dime, and sometimes you have to email them a reminder to get your refund + return postage.
Third Man. Until their recent adoption of Amazon's design, everything arrived damaged.
Matador. Like others have said, everything arrives damaged in soft cardboard boxes. They just can't seem to get it right, but they're always pleasant about sending replacements, and have never asked for the damaged goods back.
Merge. Same as Matador, but shipping is always free in the US. Ditto their replacement policy.
Worst = Thrill Jockey. Vinyl comes covered in glue residue from the sleeves, and the idiot in mailorder expects you to pay the return shipping, and then only for store credit. If anybody knows who he is, please punch him for me.

There's no specific release date for this or any other HT exclusive (FOB, Finch...).
Might be around that date but stores will get them when they get them. Just waiting on things to be pressed. Once they are ready they will get sent to stores/online.

I was wrong. This vinyl sounds awful.
Zero may be the worst sounding song, but these have distortion as well: Here is No Why, Bullet With Butterfly Wings, Bodies, Love. Porcelina has multiple "skips". I've played two copies and these issues are present in the same exact spots on both copies. I've read some reports that the EU version doesn't suffer from the same problems.
Seriously, save your money. What a disappointment.
