I like this record more every time I listen to it.

The last two tracks are are the weakest of the lot for me, but the album definitely leaves me wanting more. So I am excited about the other two Acts. Additionally, I feel like this release, on top of the other Shiny O' so bright stuff, has left me feeling very happy with what they've released the last few years.

When they broke up, I thought that was gonna be it. And as many misses are there have been since their reformation, it's great being able to see them live, it's great hearing newer songs like With Sympathy, Purple Blood, Save your tears, Schadenfreud, Butterfly suite that have really resonated with me and are just a bonus.  not to mention oceania, and some stuff on Monuments. I think in time, people will once again give these albums due credit much like Zeitgeist receives these days.

I saw them live last week and this band is essentially a different band. It sucks that the new songs don't feel as dynamic anymore, and that Jimmy feels under utilized lately. But that just makes me appreciate what we got back then. I still really enjoy this new stuff because I go into it not knowing what to expect.

I haven't posted on the board in forever, but I feel like maybe others feel the same way I do regarding their new music.

Have you given The Gold Mask time to sink in? I genuinely think it's the best track on the album, with Steps in Time a close 2nd.

Overall though, this was a polarising listen track by track on the podcast. I can honestly say, this is my favourite SP album since Machina though. It's everything I wanted Cyr to be, it has far more life to it. Yes, it still feels very much like Corgan is pulling literally every string here and Jimmy and James are there to pose for photos and collect their weekly pay cheque, but this is the most coherent collection of songs he's put out for a very long time imo.

I totally get that people don't dig what he's doing with the synth-y thing and that's totally understandable, but I think it's unrealistic to think he's going to release Siamese Dream or MCIS 2.0 at this point. All you can do is take or leave what he's putting out, but personally I've got incredibly high hopes for acts 2 and 3 based on what i've heard from act 1 and from the live performances of other tracks. Especially keen to see what the two 8min+ tracks sound like, he's got a good track record with those.

  2. First two tracks from the newly anticipated SP release ATUM have been revealed via the Thirty Three with WPC podcast.

I love this band so much! Sound Awake is probably my favorite album ever!

The new song is a freaking mix of Themata and Asymmetry...I really hope there'll be the progressiveness of SA on the album as well

If it weren't for Silverchairs Diorama, I reckon I’d say that Sound Awake is the greatest album by an Australian artist… ever? As far as prog rock goes it's flawless, and right up there with Tool and APC as far as I'm concerned.

This song sounds promising. Both Themata and Assymetry are hit and miss for me. I have zero faith in Ian Kenny after what Birds of Tokyo have become, so I won't get my hopes up... yet.

  4. Silverchair are up there with my favourite band of all time, with Diorama being easily my favourite album of all time.

That being said, Talk was really hit or miss for me. The Aerial Love EP was really promising (go listen to Surrender if you've never heard it), but the full release fell pretty flat for me.

Interested to hear what angle Daniel is going for on this one, so I've preordered one of each variant (I'm a sucker for signed anything), but I'm not overly optimistic.

I really like TheFutureEmbrace as well. I’ve never gotten around to listening to Zwan for some reason, but I listened to that solo album so much when it came out.

I think Mary Star of the Sea is probably my second favourite Billy release after Machina. You definitely should give it a whirl, it's actually insanely good.

Insane price. Like come on. Don’t encourage this.

    Yeah. This.

I spent extra to get the signed Cotillions box set. I bought tea twice to get a signed Adore and the lime green Monuments, but all those times I felt like I was getting something a bit more for my money (I love tea and deluxe vinyl box sets). They're literally charging a stupid amount for a 2LP, and then tacking an extra 100usd on for them to scribble on them.

The sad thing is, these will sell out and this will probably be the benchmark going forward :(

I can't believe I just bought this... Tower Records' variant and their phenomenal $2.98 media mail option got me interested, but honestly the single sold me.

As someone who plays their first 3 albums quite frequently, listened to Hard Candy quite a bit as a kid but not so much as an adult, and hasn't really ever given the other albums much airtime... the new single is pretty enjoyable.  It feels the tiniest bit off in a few places, like they're trying to be the Counting Crows - which I realize is absurd, but pretty good overall. I'm in to give it a shot - best case it's good and we'll have future  suite(s) to look forward to, worst case it's terrible but at least I get to have a 12x12 piece of cardboard with that beautiful album art in my house.

Hard Candy is definitely their most underrated in their whole discography. If you haven't given their latest a whirl, the single Palisades Park might perk your interest. It's a solid listen too!

But yeah, I'm a fan of Elevator Boots and am hopeful for this. No reason to think it will be bad, as I don't think they've genuinely had a bad release. Even Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings was an enjoyable ride for me and something I go back to frequently.

I believe it’s “Butter Miracle, Suite One” (which doesn’t exactly make any more sense, just noting it for the record) with Suite Two to follow and make up the whole “Butter Miracle” album.

The Butter Miracle picture they have shared is grade A nightmare fuel and one of the worst things I’ve ever seen (if I was braver I would post it, but I’m not so I won’t), but the new song is pretty good, if you like Somewhere Over Wonderland (I did) and the Rolling Stone description of Suite One sounds pretty intriguing.

Wow. What an idiot, this is what happens when you create PO posts before the birds wake up 🙄 Thanks man!

  9. I know the Crows aren't most people here's cups of tea but I'm sure there's a few lurking that appreciate the band. Below are the PO links for variants currently available:

Really enjoying this record all the way through.

IMO this is top tier weezer w blue, pink, green, maladroit, and EWBAITE. White just misses the cut.

Crazy that my two favorite albums over the last 12 months, OK Human and My Morning Jacket's the Waterfall II,  may not have ever seen the light of day if not for COVID.

White misses the cut?! Man, white is comfortably peak Weezer for me. Admit I'm certainly in the minority but I absolutely adore that album 🤍

With the two new songs released last night, I realized we've only heard tracks from the first disc. I wonder if side C/D is a different vibe. I'm really digging the TFE sound so far. The two songs released last night might be my favorite yet, but maybe because they're the freshest.

I definitely would be happy enough if this is the style of the entire double album. Hearing "Colour of Love" the first time gave me something I genuinely haven't felt since Machina. The subsequent releases haven't hit that height for me, but they're all infinitely better than anything on SaOSB.

So what do people think of the new singles? They're not terrible, but it seems we're definitely getting a double dose of the Future Embrace pt. II. Not what I was expecting considering they have one of the best drummers on the planet back in the band, and this all sounds like it could be programmed drumming.

I really like them. I'd probably rank them something like

    Color > Dopamine > Cyr > Wrath

Pretty clear at this point we're not getting the throwback to Gish/SD everyone's looking for, but it's also 2020 and not 1993, so maybe people need to either move on or accept.
