mattisr1984 got a reaction from tetsuodaironman in PO NOW: Glassjaw - Material Control (12-1-17)
i saw them shortly after EYEWTKAS came out supporting deftones on one of their white pony tours. 99% of the crowd didn't give a shit about glassjaw at all. it was a bit of an odd venue to see those bands in (mostly seats with a revolving stage) but daryl still jumped around and the band moved a lot. unfortunately, i think most people just thought of them as deftones rip offs at the time and really hated sitting through them. year or two later i saw them with poison the well either right before or after worship and tribute came out (which is probably one of my favorite shows i ever went to back in the day) and pretty much eeveryone was losing their minds - band included.

later on, i saw them in 2011 when they first started touring again and released the two EPs. they sounded good, even with just beck on guitar, but obviously the dynamic was very different.  moreover, they really seemed to throw people for a loop by just playing the coloring book ep as the encore. it was pretty obvious even then that they dont really seem to care for the EYEWTKAS material much at all.  that aside, my take was that daryl and beck just seemed like older dudes that had mellowed out over time.

for me, ICTYAP and Under Duress have a you fail me-ish era vibe which is a very good thing. i love all converge but i think i prefer when their riffs are little more angular / noise-rock influenced.

"head like a haunted house"  is probably the best track on the album. for me, the record is a  disappointment though and while the leak is definitely terrible quality - it still hammers home that i really hate the guitar tone (or lack thereof).

I dont hate what ive heard so far. I just wish the guitar tone wasnt so thin/tinny sounding.

Interesting take. Could just be geographic differences but I always felt like they were brushed off by many since they were on victory during a time when victory was mostly releasing terrible music (probably still are?). The current will carry us isnt mindblowing but its solid enough and i thought the difference between hell and home was awesome. obviously, the last record was real good as well. I cant think of too many other bands that have picked up where bands like shai hulud and strongarm left off and have done it nearly as well.

new song is... ehh. feels like this one is going to be more like era vulgaris which is the only QOTSA album i dont really care for. ill reserve final judgment till ive heard the whole album. artwork is rad though.

really happy with this. its a good mix of everything i liked about this band (cool to see the audio samples back). reminds me the most of vanity but it definitely has even heavier moments a'la best of/until the ink runs out.

apparently this record is only 14 minutes long. song kinda sounds like angel dust influences have spilled heavily over into TUI.

couple spins through and i think its good. its not blowing my mind but its pretty faithful to their sound and a helluva lot better than a lot of recent post-reunion albums that have come out in the last couple of years (im looking at you refused).

just... fuck it. i bought one. $15 in my paypal helped cushion the blow but lets be honest - the extra $10 prob would be worth it to not have to brave the absolute fucking shit show that is RSD to get a copy.

its listed in the RSD pdf as a record store day first release - so its pretty much confirmed there will be a readily available variant after RSD.

guess im in the minority in thinking that the two new songs sound like a fairly logical continuation from where the band left off after 17 years.
