  1. A few months ago I released an album by Bask from Asheville, NC. It was definitely a different album for us, and but I'm really proud of how it came out and all of the hard work we put into it.  As a label, we generally have stuck with a lot of indie/emo stuff in recent years, but we like diversity, you like diversity, blah blah blah.

I'm not sure what the genre is, every time I try and explain Bask it doesn't do it justice. It's akin to Pallbearer and the whole melodic metal/rock thing that might owe a lot to Baroness. I've heard Bask called "Americana metal doom" but that sounds really dumb. If you like heavy bands, you'll dig this.

They're going on tour with Pallbearer and Kayo Dot in August, so if you live in the area that the tour hits, then come say hello.

Jeff Byers (of Light the Fuse & Run, Best Practices) had this to say about the album:

These songs won’t ever be on the radio, but they could’ve been. Growing up in the ‘90s, you wouldn’t have heard any of the songs, from Sea of Storms’s debut LP, Dead Weight, on the radio because they hadn’t been written yet. However, if the Richmond, VA power trio had released them roughly 20 years ago, you would’ve had a chance. Growing up in a post-Nevermind era throughout different Virginian cities, the members of Sea of Storms were gripping 7”s from Richmond bands when they could and ripping off a variety of sub-genres that blended together at the time in their high school bands. When the 3/5 of the post-hardcore outfit Mouthbreather formed Sea of Storms in 2012, they brought together a varied archive of influences from Jimmy Eat World to 400 Years to Coheed and Cambria. However, Dead Weight sounds nothing like these bands.

What "Dead Weight" (to be released on Tor Johnson and Self Aware Records) does sounds like is a rock record from a time when Danzig and Smashing Pumpkins were considered fresh, filtered through the distilled punk essence of late-1990s angsty indie rockers such as The Get Up Kids and Blank. Having played together for six years, Sea of Storms’ dynamics are impressive. From bassist John Martin’s rolling bass lines to drummer Chris Brown’s propulsive, metered beats, Sea of Storms has found their groove. Singer/guitarist Brandon Peck makes an excellent front man, creatively filling in space with feedback, riffs and vocals. Take, for example, the hazy rock tracks such as “Weak Ones” and “Crimson Tide”. Dramatic moments ebb and flow with a series of guitar and vocal interplay as the rhythm section holds down the fort, calling to mind Walter Screifels’ projects or a more aggressive, spaced out Hot Rod Circuit. The greatest strengths on Dead Weight are the songs themselves. Sea of Storms are able to craft well-written emotionally-tinged rock anthems without veering into the embarrassing “emo” territory (because that word meant something completely different when they first heard it). Stand out tracks in this vein include “Snake Oil” and album closer “Cedar Run”.While nodding to the past, Sea of Storms looks towards the future, looking to expand on their musical roots how they can.

If you’re a fan of big guitars and songs that make you want to drive along open roads with the windows down, Dead Weight is the record you’ve been waiting for.

  4. We are super excited to be working with PLOW UNITED and THE HEADIES on their split 7″. Our buddies over at Punknews will be streaming the release in full today around 4pm!!!

Preorders are live NOW on our webstore. We are really stoked about working with these two amazing bands. The packaging on this record will be really awesome. First off, the jackets are being screenprinted by Todd Purse (of The Headies), who also designed the cover art. The release is limited to 500, with 100 being on clear vinyl, 200 on light green, and 200 on light blue vinyl. Each release comes with a digital download card, because this is 2015, and we know what is up.

Plow United will have some test press versions of the release that will be sold exclusively at Death To False Hope Festival V, which they will be performing at. Go pick it up there, or miss out on that. We will have all of these colors in stock, and also you can pick them up in one package if you are into that sort of thing.

It’s seriously mind blowing to be working with such amazing bands. I’ve been a fan of Plow United for years and it is awesome watching them still kill it to this day. They have been on fire since the reunion, and we are super excited to help in a small way to keep that fire burning! Check out the webstore, go pick up the new split 7″ and some of our distro items and back catalog while you are at it. Thanks so much for the support!

Will update the thread when the full EP stream is posted via Punknews.

  7. Preorders for the Totally Slow//Black Market split 7" are now live in our webstore, so you should go check it out!!! Both bands are really awesome and are some of the best kept secret bands of the southeast.

Totally Slow features ex members of Rights Reserved, Eagle Bravo, Manamid, Decoration Ghost and so many more. We released their debut LP  in 2013 and it is really awesome, if you haven't checked it out, you really are missing out! The best years of California pop-punk and early Merge Records, rolled into one.

Black Market is a little bit newer, but all members have definitely "done their time" in the "scene," for lack of a better way to describe them. Features ex members of Light the Fuse and Run (RVA- Level Plane Records, known for their split with Hot Cross) and Forcefedglass (MA- featuring Ben Koller of Converge). Black Market sounds nothing like those bands. Instead of spazzy post-hardcore or blistering fast punk, Black Market is more garage rock sensibility with 90s punks intensity. Basically loud post hardcore that knows when to get loud, but also knows when to get crazy. It'll make sense when you hear it. The band previously released a collection of their 2013 EPs, "One Year Old," via Death to False Hope Records.

Totally Slow will be playing THE FEST on Saturday, November 1st at Durty Nelly's. The band will have advance copies of the split (tests) in a very very limited quantity. If you are interested in picking this variant up, then make a beeline to the venue and nab it up.

The 7" EP is limited to 300 copies of randomly mixed color vinyl. The release features 4 new tracks (2 from each band) on the record w/ two additional digital only songs! The digital versions are covers of each others songs.

This was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Kris Hilbert at Legitimate Business.

    Side A:
    1. Totally Slow- Blank Paper Sides
    2. Black Market- Hangover Hobby Kit

    Side B:
    3. Black Market- No Brain
    4. Totally Slow- The End of Air

    Digital only:
    1. Black Market- Phone (Totally Slow)
    2. Totally Slow- Basement Dweller (Black Market)

Under The Gun Review  premiered a Black Market track, "No Brain," from the split, so make sure you check that out as well. http://www.underthegunreview.net/2014/09/29/utg-premiere-black-market-no-brain/
