SRC has been pressing their reissue since 2013.  They got the rights from RCA without the consent of the band.  So while it was a legit reissue with label support, it didn’t benefit the band monetarily.

I have no idea what their licensing contract terms were, if it was for a length of time, total number of copies, etc, but no licensing contract is unlimited.

Just theorizing but, their contract could have been set to expire because of a new contract with the band.  They set up one last preorder but plant availability, covid, and other issues could have delayed it past the expiration and sell off dates of their contract.  Then they’re stuck with a shit load of preorder dollars, no product, and increasingly pissed of customers.

I would assume if the band approached RCA with a licensing deal, one caveat could have been to sever their deal with SRC.  That would be even easier to agree to if SRC’s contract was already expiring.

Bingo. You stated this much more eloquently than I. I was thinking along these lines.

They pressed this record on several prior occasions

Right, but don’t they have to get rights/permission to press /X copies? I’m just positing the theory that they assumed they would be permitted to repress /X copies prior to being permitted to do so, because they had pressed this record in the past, thus preselling copies without the permissions to carry through.

  3. I have followed the SRC fiasco with regard to the YPAA repress from afar and don’t have a dog in the fight nor am I one of the hundreds who have money tied up in a release that is never going to happen. Is it possible that SRC never had rights to do this repress and that is why it has never happened? Nothing would surprise me with SRC, but it would seem something  along these lines would have had to happen for a release to be delayed for this long.

I pre-ordered this yesterday as well, was glad they pressed it on vinyl (and peach!). I assumed they would eventually.

The extra $10 for tax + shipping was discouraging, but didn't seem like there was anywhere else to order from.

Agreed. I had hoped to be able to get the “Proxima B” 7” as well to combine shipping, but that was gone. Only reason I didn’t pick that up was for the same reason, shipping being far too high and nearing the cost of the item itself.

In celebration of the recent Georgia runoff election results, The Georgia E.P. is now available for pre-order on limited edition peach colored 180-gram vinyl.

This is the same E.P. that we released in December 2020 for one day only on Bandcamp to raise money for the amazing Georgia based voter rights organization Fair Fight Action. Although the fundraiser for this release has now ended, we wanted to re-extend our thanks to everyone who helped us raise over $100,000 for Fair Fight Action!

$16 plus shipping, ended up being $26 shipped for me.

    About $7 cheaper here:

No one else has the charge?

The charge will recur, exactly 3 months to the day from when you initially joined, and then on that same day of the month every three months from that point until cancelled. It is unusual in this case because they have usually announced the next offering by now. The only sure way to make sure you don’t get charged for something you may not want is to cancel right after paying, or before your 3 months is up.

  7. Recently picked up a black copy from Zia on New Year’s Day with their sale. Came in the mail yesterday, noticed the hype sticker on the front was covering another hyper sticker. The only difference I noted on the text of the sticker that was covered up was “Pressed on 180 gram clear vinyl” Anyone else see this or notice this? Maybe clear was supposed to be the wide release variant before black?

  8. Just got my test pressing bundle in today. I  will second the previous sentiment that the deluxe packaging is some of the best I’ve seen. Everything incredibly well done and detailed. Very well might be the best looking, reasonably priced deluxe variant I own.
On a side note, having gone in on a test press bundle for $175, I didn’t want to shell out another $60 for a signed copy of the deluxe album. (I know the test pressing was signed, but I wanted the album artwork signed.) So, just after I ordered the test pressing bundle I emailed Second City Prints and asked if I could pay the difference in the signed vs. unsigned deluxe variants to get my deluxe signed in the bundle. 11 days later I got a response that they didn’t edit or change orders. Left me a little salty, but oh well.
    Test pressing 5/50 checking in.

  9. I know many of the delays are beyond the control of Smartpunk, but could the communication possibly have been worse through this whole thing? Every email says “everything should be here this week” or “the last piece has shipped” until the next “update” says something completely contradictory. I know I will be happy I ordered when this arrives, but from the beginning when the initial pressing numbers went missing from the site and limited variants became unlimited, this whole thing has been a debacle.
Sorry, rant over. And I know it can be worse, I lost money too during the whole TOYPAJ MTS ordeal, I just feel this could have been handled more professionally when a significant amount of people have funded this pressing with a not insignificant amount of money.

I got shipping notice 6 days ago and it still hasn't moved beyond "shipping label created"

WTF are they doing over there

Probably packaging and sending quite literally tens if not 100,000 or more vinyl records, along with a lot of other merch that the Taylor Swift fandom buys on the regular. You got a shipping notification when the label was printed, doesn’t mean your package is ready to go. I’m in the same boat.
