  1. I'm honestly not looking to start a debate, but I can't help but feel confused for all the Newbury hate. I've been collecting vinyl since 2003, and I think Newbury is great. I totally agree that it's questionable/shady that they "find" leftover vinyl, and sell it for a higher price than originally listed. I think they should set a price and stick to it. On the other hand, complaining about their prices doesn't make a lot of sense to me, as you're basically complaining about the economic model of supply and demand. I'm betting that everyone here would love Newbury if they charged $15 per release, so it seems like all the hate is based on cost. Why does charging $25 - $80 per release bother so many of you? Because you realize that it only costs them $4 - $8 per record to make them? Because you can’t afford it? Because the original version is still available, and selling for $10+ less than their limited version? Considering their releases always sell out, doesn't that mean they are priced appropriately? On a business level, wouldn't you be infuriated if you saw your product selling on ebay for double or triple what your customers paid only days after going on sale? Is it wrong for them to feel like they deserve a bigger piece? Anyone complaining about their prices can basically get every one of their releases for free by purchasing two copies and selling the extra copy on ebay the day you receive it. I personally don't do that, but only for pure laziness. There should be no moral problems with anyone, collector or business, making money by selling a record...it's not like they are selling bags of heroin. If I wanted to sell my copy of Takk by Sigur Ros (I don’t), I would definitely sell it on ebay for $200+. Does that make me a bad person? I could seriously use that kind of money. Selling it to someone on the board for half (or more) of its value out of the goodness of my heart sounds kind of…crazy. We are talking about a really great, privately owned record store chain that has a huge selection, and offers special limited-edition runs of some pretty great stuff. Don't they deserve to make money? Their products are not putting any other stores out of business. In fact, they are breathing life into an industry that is struggling to stay alive. Supporting a record store is very important. I mean, I love finding a great deal and all…I was totally psyched to purchase both Mineral re-issues for $12 each on Amazon, but there’s a big part of me that feels bad that I did not support the band or their label directly. Instead, I supported a huge corporation that is killing the competition. Isn't it nice that Newbury has found a way to make money in the music business? All of you collect records, and most collectors enjoy owning a special edition...am I crazy to love what Newbury is doing? Anyway, let the hate begin…
  2. Used this to pre-order M. Ward - Transistor Radio. Thanks!
  3. A buddy of mine just released this record: http://ocean-music.bandcamp.com/ You can stream two tracks. The whole thing is fantastic. The recording and the songs are beautiful. The vinyl sounds great as well. My friendship aside, I'm really proud to have it in my collection. Limited to 250 copies, and around 100 are left.
  4. Finally. I've been waiting for them to re-issue this one for a while!
  5. I received mine in NYC a day or two before I got the shipping confirmation on September 12th. Order #5620
  6. Yeah, it must be random. I ordered the first day as well. It was a nice surprise getting it today, even though it's late. Seeing her play at Le Poisson Rouge tomorrow. Super pumped.
  7. I received mine today in NYC. I didn't get a shipping notification. It's actually a very nice package. Proud to have it.
  8. While I was slightly surprised at the price, I don't find it upsetting whatsoever. I've been collecting for over 10 years, and the days of $12 LPs and $15 double LPs have been gone for a while for the most part. It's pretty normal to see a $25 - $30 release nowadays. I plan on picking these up on my next pay day, even though I have both originals. $28 for a double 180g, remastered, band sanctioned, gatefold version of two of my favorite records ever really is a fair price...especially for records that have been going for $60-$100 on ebay for years. God forbid someone makes a little money selling music.
  9. I was almost concerned that they wouldn't live up to everything that I built up in my head, but I saw them play last night in Brooklyn, and it was everything I hoped it would be. They had a great merch table as well. The new remastered Power of Failing was there, along with the new Zookeeper LP, a tour poster, and around five different shirts.
  10. I used to live in Austin, and have seen Zookeeper play dozens of times. I can't even describe how pumped I am for the Mineral reunion show, and for his upcoming record, Pink Chalk. Count Your Lucky Stars put up the preorder, and I think Mineral will have some on tour. Here's the PO link: http://countyourluckystars.bigcartel.com/product/pre-order-zookeeper-pink-chalk-lp I'll see Mineral in NYC next week, so I'll try my luck there first. It looks like they have some other bundles with t-shirts, but I can't see what the shirt looks like. You can also stream the album on Spotify. I'm loving it. It's a lot more low key than his past offerings...in a good way.
  11. I live in the states, and received both of the colored pressings a couple days ago. They arrived in perfect condition. Look great and sound great. My one complaint is there isn't any insert or sleeve with lyrics. Either way, pumped to finally have these.
  12. I got the blue version in today. I think it looks and sounds great. The glow in the dark aspect of it is a symbol printed over the cover, which the pictures I have seen don't really show.
  13. Went by Captured Tracks today, and they were out of Rock and Roll NightClub, but said that it's being repressed again. They acted like they should be getting them in within a month. It seems like they plan on keeping his stuff in print as long as people keep buying it.
  14. Looks like they are playing a festival as well:http://hopscotchmusicfest.com/artist/the-white-octave I've only gotten to see Criteria...really hoping they'll tour. And they've got a site: http://thewhiteoctave.us ...kind of NSFW just in case
  15. I got mine on Saturday. I live in Brooklyn. Looked great. Sounded great, and no problems with sand.
  16. You will usually get an email asking if you want to keep waiting or cancel your order. So be on the lookout for that, because they will cancel it if you don't select the option of waiting. I'd say everyone has a good chance of receiving these. Last year, I purchased Andrew Bird's Break It Yourself Deluxe Box Set & Broken Social Scene's Forgiveness Rock Record 10" boxset for $18 each on Amazon. I received both in perfect condition.
  17. I've known the lead singer (Abe Gill) since 2005. I used to put on shows in my college town and Houston. He randomly attended one of my shows in Houston and asked if we would put on a show in my college town. A week later, we received his album, Secret Treasures in the mail, and I'll never forget the awesome time me and my friends had listening to it. By the end, we put on numerous shows for him, and even did a radio promotion campaign for his album Expect The Max. Checkognize is his first proper full-length. I love Treasure Mammal. One person may say it's talentless. But I can easily see art in his recordings and performances.
  18. Easily one of the weirdest records I own is Treasure Mammal's Checkognize. It has elements of experimental, electronic, pop, noise, hip hop, comedy, and...is wtf a genre? You can listen here: http://treasuremammal.bandcamp.com/album/checkognize Vinyl available here: http://kingdommammalia.bigcartel.com/product/treasure-mammal-checkognize-12-vinyl-lp-album
  19. These are some good friends of mine, and they are some of the best musicians I've heard. They are called Some Say Leland, and they just released a new album, Brought Low: http://somesayleland.bandcamp.com/album/brought-low
  20. Paid a visit to Rough Trade NYC today, and was surprised I was able to pick up both the 7" and 12". I believe I got the last 7", but there were at least 10 copies of the 12" left for anyone that still needs this.
