Isn't MvMvE just about taking advantage of girls at the bar and making them think you care about them when you don't? Is there any mention of them being underage (especially considering it takes place at the bar)? Not only is it fiction, but even if it wasn't, it might be scummy but it isn't a crime.

You're right about that. I was misremembering lyrics from a YFW song, "What difference does this difference in age make", which could refer to a great number of things. But even if you remove the "underage" part from my post, I still stand by what I said. He's written about being a creep and predator.

YOU must actually be kidding my friend.

If Stephen King DID suddenly hack his family up one weekend would you look back and say "Oh wow, how'd we not see this one coming boys?? He literally said he was going to do it in the Shining!!"

I never said I thought we should've seen the Lacey stuff coming. Nowhere in my posts did I suggest that. I've been a Brand New fan since Deja and always assumed (hoped?) he was writing characters as a means to criticize problematic behavior. I can't see the lyrics the same way anymore, because I'm a rational person who is considering that maybe someone I admired and gave the benefit of the doubt to for years didn't deserve it.

lol, unrelated to the current back and forth - but do some of you really believe that if someone wrote something then it must be an immediate reflection of themselves, if not completely true and an accurate representation of them as a person? I mean is that real?

Like... do you think George Lucas has a lot of space travel or light incest experience?

Did Stephen King hack up his family one winter when he was stuck at a hotel?

Did Conor Oberst's mom really drown his baby brother in a bathtub when he was a kid?

Did Bob Marley really shoot the sheriff and the deputy? Or just the sheriff?

Let's get over the fact that lyrics can mean anything and interpretation of their content, when it comes to something like this, is an idiotic waste of time.

It was determined back in 2014 that violent rap lyrics could not be used as evidence in court cases... because they are FICTION.

You have got to be kidding me, dude. Those are ridiculous and fantastical examples. Jesse Lacey literally wrote lyrics about taking advantage of underage girls. After the accusations, you see those lyrics the same way? It's not the same at all.

To sum up what I think your trying to say is, everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, but Jesse confessed to being guilty so now it is proven. Derek made that original post before it was proven. So, he was being pretty sensible and logical compared to most people who instantly believed Jesse was guilty without proof or confession. But that's all behind us now, right?

It's quite sensible not to rush to judgment when someone is accused of something without proof. Spreading information about the girl struggling with mental health in an effort to play devil's advocate cast doubt on her story is not. It just perpetuates the rape denial climate that we know is very real. Also his snark and condescension (ie "you don’t need me to copy and paste a WebMD definition for that, do you?", "Delayed thanks to extended production time, to fortify the sleeve so you can’t break it over your head for Likes.") aren't helping his case.

  5. When your first response to accusations that a person who has written and sang about predatory behavior is to scour the accuser's social media for evidence of flaws, then suggest that she's not reliable because she has struggled with mental health, you're the part of the problem. "But if her reputation is truly on the line"... it's not. His is. You just WANT her to be lying.

  6. Well, nice thread. Got three or four new VC posters I know are awful people.

To play devil's advocate, someone did dig up the girl's Tumblr and (for what it's worth) she's apparently been wrestling with a bipolar disorder, OCD, and a panic disorder for a while now.  Not that any of these things discredit her accusations.  But if her reputation is truly on the line and she has access to proof in the form of Skype logs or whatever, but refuses to dig them up because of the discomfort they cause, I can't not raise a brow, personally.

Easily the grossest thing I've read on here.

I have no horse in this race...I'm not over the top about this band. BUT. I've been keeping this in for a while now and just recently shared it with someone from VC.

When I went to see Pity Sex and Petal down here last year...I think it was last year...PWR BTTM were one of the openers. I was right up front the whole night b/c I'm really into PS and Petal. So. When PWR BTTM were playing, their entire set during their between-song banter, they were of course praising Queer Culture/Lifestyle (apologies if that's not the proper terminology but for this post to me, also includes gay, trans, etc.), which I am was glad to hear and see and cheered on. But on an odd flipside, they were also bashing on anyone non-queer/gay/trans/etc. and borderline inciting violence against them. But in their I'd guess "joking manner". I honestly felt uncomfortable during their entire set as more than on one occasion during it, I was being squinted at by the band. I know I'm not that hard to blend in being a burly (slight overweight) and bearded dude. Sure, they had no way on knowing I'm a hetero male, but shit, I felt like I had a target on my back for some reason. Felt like guilty for being hetero.

This doesn't anything whatsoever to what's been developing with the band currently and the allegations. But damnit...needed to share and just get it  off my chest. Hell...even my friend who I was with that night, who stood towards the back of the crowd, saw all of this going on and she thought (as she told me) that I was going to get my ass kicked that night just for being a dude.

The wrong dude and the wrong show as she put it.

100% felt the same way at this show during our date in LA. I've mentioned it a few times before and got bashed for being "anti LGBT"

im really glad I'm not alone on this

The way you felt for 2 hours is how many of the queer people at that show felt the other 22 hours of the day. Queer spaces and events are important for this exact reason.

Also, band sucks, members are scum, etc.

Only have 12" mailers so I'm trying to avoid shipping just 7"s. Anything not sold in the next week or so is going to a local store before I move. 9. So all the new Star Wars comics have me at my local comic store every Wednesday and I've basically been reeled in. I've never really read comics before, but a few series caught my eye and I'm really enjoying the revelation that not all comics are superhero related. There are so many series and so many publishers that it's kind of intimidating, so I need some recs. Here's what I've enjoyed immensely in the past couple of weeks:

    Wytches

    Descender

    Intersect

    Magneto (big X-Men fan)

Saga (maybe, a little irked by some of the dialogue, six issues in and I'm still unsure)

If you have any recommendations based on this list, please let me know. I would prefer modern or even ongoing series, but if you have something older in mind that's cool. I'm really into horror, sci-fi, weird shit, absurdism/existentialism, and melancholy atmospheres. I'm really not into any superheroes other than X-Men, sexism, action hero stuff, or war realism.

    Thanks in advance!
