  1. Oh, I wasn't saying that all torn-shrink wrapped records are on sale (in fact, most of the time, I would say they are NOT), but just that these are the types of things to look for at a store which seem out of place on the vinyl shelves. When in question, just go and ask an employee to scan a stack of records, even if most aren't marked down.!
  2. I was able to score tons of good crap (Get Up Kids, Mineral, The Violent Femmes, Ryan Adams, etc.) with the 40% off clearance sale, all for $6 each. Remember, if it "looks out of place" on the shelf (old, missing shrink, even if it isn't in their "clearance bin") or ends in the number 9, it is on clearance, whether the store has marked it as such or not.
  3. I am coughing up mine on the bay... There aren't a ton of watchers or bids. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get mine for less than $50 at this point: https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/182101248470
  4. Travis, Now's where you come in and say "Yes and No"
  5. He ain't going to/able to respond because it would mean the end of this thread. He's the Peyton Manning of vinyl Ambassadorship... as long as people are talking about Hot Topic, people are talking about Hot Topic... admitting it's over in retail would just make people start talking about something else... like what better things we should be doing with our lives than sitting on dusty mall floors digging through that very last crate while Falling In Reverse earrapes us.
  6. @throughbeingcruel... a year a ago, I would've said you were absolutely right.... but the physical music inventory in stores has been reduced to absolutely nothing, with almost everything still in the store being marked down or clearanced out... kinda hard to argue with the writing on the wa.... sales floor. Out of the five major markets I have been in for the last five weeks, not one of them has received a new vinyl release since The Get Up Kids... You would think if the plan was to keep vinyl in stock, they would at least have hot releases like Panic at the Disco shipping into actual stores.. I have only heard of one store in the country who actually received any of that album. Vinyl looks to be all but over in stores, unless Travis can explain otherwise.
  7. Hey Travis, I travel a ton for my job, all around the Country. I like to check out Hot Topics in various states for vinyl... The consensus I have been receiving from every store manager I have talked to in five states this last month has been "We are phasing out of vinyl in store entirely.... soon our online inventory will only be major, 21 Pilots-ish releases." Confirm or deny? I think everyone would love to put this rumor to bed, one way or another.
  8. Oh, I know that this thread is old news and pretty much over... but if anyone cares, I've got an update... Ninety Pound Wuss came out with a Split 7-inch with a band called "The Captives" during their time at Tooth and Nail on a label called "Crash Records"... I've got pictures up on my deadformat site.. http://deadformat.net/tradelist/avgisdumb Also, if any of you has a Joe Christmas "North to the Future" vinyl that you'd be willing to trade or sell.. I would be forever indebted.. Oh, and one thing to clear up regarding pressings of T&N Vinyl. I was talking with Jim, who has worked at Tooth and Nail longer than any other current employee (since 96-ish) about T&N Vinyl, and he said that while Bill Powers was the person who was always in charge of early T&N Vinyl releases, he is 90% sure that T&N would do 1000 qty runs of black vinyl, and 1000 runs of color vinyl on most of the late-nineties releases. If an album was only released on black vinyl, it meant that it wasn't a tremendous seller and didn't warrant the added expense of making a color version.. I checked later in the day with Brandon Ebel about this, who confirmed Jim's assumptions with a cautionary, "I don't really remember, but if Jim says it, I'm betting it's correct." I know that there have been a lot of rumors going around the internet as to how many of each vinyl was pressed, so I wanted to let you know that I'm pretty sure this is your answer. I asked Jim if there was any chance that there were only 500 of some colors pressed, to which he replied, "Very unlikely, at that time vinyl was so unpopular, and so unprofitable to make in low quantities, that I am sure the minimum runs would've been at least 1,000."
