  1. I haven't posted in this thread in a long time. I haven't really needed to, since I've been with the girl of my dreams for nearly three years. That was, until she ended it two nights ago. Maybe it's silly to vent online but I don't have anyone to talk to and it helps just to say things, to anyone. I moved to D.C. last year for her and had a really rough time acclimating myself to a new city. Ultimately, I ended up handling the transition like a whiney brat, upset that I left a town where I knew everyone to go to a city where I was a nobody. This led to fighting, which led to more fighting. I'm not good at fighting; I'm stubborn and would rather sleep on a couch then swallow my pride. After a year of fighting, she finally got to a point where she is just exhausted. I can't blame her. I haven't been able to leave the bed and the only way I was able to sleep was a bottle of bourbon. My plane takes me back to Kansas tomorrow and I'm just waiting for her to tell me not to go, but it hasn't happened. It sucks, knowing that there's only one person in this entire universe that you want to be with, but you can't be with them. I would give anything in the world right now to be able to fix this, but I can't and it sucks. I thought I'd been through the worst, years ago. Turns out I was wrong. Again, I'm only venting because it's taking my mind off of it, for just a brief few moments. It keeps me from bawling like a baby or sending her messages. She really was the best thing to happen to me and I fucked it up.
  2. Picked up that Heartwell record, thanks so much for the heads up
  3. Caught The Big Short last night and loved it. Great cast, incredible cinematography and great use of the fourth wall. I'll pretty much endorse anything that has Gosling, Bale, and Pitt in the same flick.
  4. Who gives a shit? At least people are getting into something outside of single MP3 tracks found via mass radio and iTunes. Stop being elitist for two seconds and remember that for every Clash song you can name, you can name ten times as many pop-punk songs that allowed you to discover them. Remember that you guys didn't always love Brand New. If people want to buy low tier record players, let them buy low tier record players. Don't be that kid in the "cool" band that looks down on the kid playing a Squier guitar.
  5. The gal and I are getting all gussied up for some swanky party at an expensive hotel. I'm already prepared to feel insanely out of place.
  6. Viewing all of these setups makes me feel bad for the electric guitars that have been sitting in cases for over a year. I think I've posted my rig before; however, if not, my electric setup: - 2 Fender telecasters (blond w/ tortoise shell pickguard, red w/ black pickguard) - Schecter Tempest w/ Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon in bridge - Squier '51 w/ Seymour Duncan Screamin' Demon in bridge - Fender Hot Rod Deville 410 - Marshall MosFet Lead 100 No pedals outside of a tuner because rock n' roll needs not effects. After my last band broke up, I put all of my focus on acoustic guitars and writing sad bastard songs. Maybe someday I'll play that old time rock n' roll again.
  7. A long time ago in a galaxy not too far away (Kansas), I was married. I got married because I had been dating the same girl for about 5 years and she made it clear that it was either marriage or nothing, which isn't very fair; however, I didn't want it to end so I married her. Fast forward two years and we were filing divorce papers. My point is, I didn't want to marry the girl and I knew it. I dug her, she was a cool chick, just not the one for me. Trust me, you know it in your bones. A couple of years go by and I meet the girl I know, without a doubt that I want to spend the remainder of my existence on this spinning ball with. On our first date, she told me she didn't want anything serious because she was moving across the country, to which I told her she was being stupid not to want a relationship. Two dates later and I knew I was moving with her. We fight, it happens. Kudos to those that don't have to worry about fighting. Moral of the story- if you don't feel it in your bones, it's time to move along. Be fair to her and yourself.
  8. Opened mine two nights ago but haven't had a chance to post mine. I'm stoked that my Secret Santa sent me some new tunes I haven't heard of. The tunes: -Kishi Bashi- Lighght; so stoked on this because my gal has been mentioning how badly she needs new music and she absolutely loves this record. -White Lung- Sorry; I had a chance to check these guys out and I'm really digging the aggressive, female fronted punk rock. - The Fuse!- The Fisherman's Wife; this looks interesting and my SS described it as punk I would dig on - Foundation- Chimborazo; I've heard about this in the past and I love Ann Beretta so I'm really looking forward to this one. Also included, some neat stickers and a Batmanga, which I've never heard of, but I love all things Batman. I'm so stoked about how personalized my SS made this package and I'm always excited to hear new tunes. It looks as though my SS is from the Seattle area; but, I couldn't find anyone here that it could be. So to whomever my SS is- thank you so so much, I truly appreciate it!
  9. I never realized how intricate that opening is. This rules, thank you so much for positing it!
  10. Sorry for those that got rough copies of this. I plan on picking it up at my hometown shop while I'm back this weekend. Side note: "Shock Me" may be my favorite song of the year. How can you listen to it and not want to rock out so hard? The guy sitting next to me on the train must hate me right about now.
  11. I spent the entire year trying to acclimate myself to the DC cost of living, so not a whole lot of white whales or big purchases were spent this year; however, I did get a copy of that Limbeck record that I've wanted for years. Sure, it was a repress, but I was stoked.
  12. I guess my opinion differs from the populous here, though I've only listened to the digital version so far. I think the production on this is killer; the drums (mostly the toms) are some of the most vibrant toms I've heard outside of a Rush album, guitar tones are killer and the vocals are spot on without either of the vocalists bleeding the other out. I went back and re-listened to Blue and the production was garbage- vocals way too loud in the mix, poor control over guitar tones, drums lopsided between stereo channels. These guys need a big production record due to how technical their songwriting has become.
  13. Damn, yeah. Sorry, I was at work and getting my Crow Soundtrack titles all mixed up apparently. Thanks for the heads up.
  14. I really love that Nine Inch Nails cover of Joy Division's "Burn"
  15. By no means should you be forced to enjoy the Beatles, but you could at least respect what they did for pop music. Though I suppose I shouldn't argue nativity with anyone nearing their 50s, complaining to strangers via the Internet.
  16. This seems like a naive perspective. I can understand not enjoying something, but to "hate" something so prolific, and obviously responsible in shaping a great deal of the music you enjoy today, seems ridiculous. Moral of the story, it's okay not to enjoy The Beatles, but don't hate, appreciate.
  17. Funny you should ask, I sniped him off the waiver last night. If I win this week I'm in the playoffs, so the tension is on.
  18. I used to love everything he was a part of, but after all of his arrogant, bullshit antics, I can't even make myself try to enjoy it. Sucks when talented musicians are jerks to their fans
  19. Wells Fargo is surprisingly good about OD fees, I've had success numerous times
  20. I miss strip clubs, they aren't as easy to come by here in D.C., how was it?
