  1. ha, you're probably right. I do realize the majority of posts on this board are not exactly bursting with relevant content
  2. Anyone else here disappointed with the sound of the vinyl pressing of White? It's not the best production to start with, but the pressing sounds too hissy to me... got the black one. Still really happy about these songs, 20 years after Pinkerton getting me through my first big heartbreak... Side note: How cool would it be to get the never released 5th album demos on vinyl someday? Way better than anything between green and white IMO. Side note 2: What a shame the blue album era B-sides were never released on vinyl (or am I wrong?) Like Mykel & Carli, Suzanne...
  3. Every now and again I find a record I already have on Discogs and am surprised by how low its price is, because I find that record so wonderful. Here's a list of cheap (like 3 $ cheap) records nobody knows, which I think are fantastic (all of these are in the post-hardcore/emo/punk genre) - Notorius - La Danza Dei Nervi LP - Your Halo is a Radar 10" - Tidal - Moment LP - The Shampoo - Radar.Rot LP - The Cable Car Theory - The Deconstruction LP If you like that kind of music, do yourself a favor and get these records. Feel free to add more.
  4. I own the original silver picture press and it sounds alright, though not as good as the CD version I'd say. Which is only natural since it is really a picture disc, and these physically can't sound as good as a proper black pressing. The problem withe that pressing was that they shrink wrapped the records too soon after pressing which resulted in crazy bumps in at least the batch my copy is from. It plays well on a good turntable but watchign it spin looks pretty motocross. According to the CD back cover, De-Loused was released on GSL and licensed to Universal (ATDI had their share of fame so they weren't naive about what how to release Mars Volta stuff). IIRC it was the other way round with France (released by Universal, licensed for vinyl to GSL). So since GSL is no more (sadly) who's gonna re-release it? I once heard Three One G (another great label worth checking out) was about to purchase the rights to the GSL releases but I don't know if that came through. Boot looks pretty professional to, btw. Looks like they got hold of the offset plates for the covers?!
  5. The problem is not Getz exclusively, it is the missing quality control at fucking Virgin Records America Inc. They have twentysomethings managing affairs for a couple of months before they're fired and this record is one of the shameful results of this catastrophic music industry. Either nobody bothered to listen through all eight sides of the test press from start to end or... I can't think of another reason. You must be deaf not to hear that kind of distortion. I have a very good record player and a pretty good cartridge, all precisely adjusted, and the distortion is undebatable and a shame for the format vinyl in today's market. Obviously -and utterly unbelievably- this Stan Getz gets through with it (until now) - but I absolutely agree with people being angry, returning the record, the survey and all that. The tendency is to make records as heavy as possible, remaster every reissue (what for, by the way? They used to master better in the 80s and 90s than today!), and sell the records at ridiculous prices, somehow trying to compensate a portion of the major labels' losses on other formats. This is all absolutely ridiculous, as is the MC reissue in general. Starting with the waste of resources by pressing onto 4 LPs, not ending with all the listed bonus tracks in the bookletthat are not on the records (obviously the same booklet as the CD version, as the box that has a big sheet of paper with the tracklist glued to the back), the black letterbox wide screen stripes on the 4:3 screen shots in the booklet, and finally and most outrageously, the price (here in Europe at least: more than 100 Euros). What an ugly light this reissue casts on the beautiful music that constitutes part of the album.
  6. The good news is that usually nothing ever gets lost on the way to Germany, or within Germany, except stealing neighbours maybe? How quickly a package gets to the buyer in Germany depends strongly on the customs office and officer. Sometimes they let it pass through, other times they will keep even a single LP and make the recipient drive for several miles to their office to pick it up - even if the value is below the gift limit (25 Euros). Some customs people are really the Nazis of today (as in Soup Nazi - even though I'm sure customs offices are a popular workplace for actual Nazis). Once they held a package but didn't send me the notification that allows me to pick it up. They also refused to let me pick it up without the little piece of paper and after two weeks they sent it back to the US. I'm sure the heartless cold customs bitch I talked to on the phone a couple of times was a Nazi. A real one, you know.
