Over the course of their mere five-year existence, Sterling, Virginia’s Pageninetynine redefined what punk rock could be. This venerable squad of miscreants from the outskirts of the nation’s capital incorporated aspects of nearly every heavy music sub- genre into a tornado of punk fury, releasing a plethora of albums, singles, splits and more, touring relentlessly and inspiring a dedicated, diehard fanbase. Robotic Empire is pleased to announce a timely re-press of the band’s landmark Document #8 album for availability during their September reunion shows! Each show will benefit a local grassroots organization on the frontlines fighting for civil rights, LGBT rights, youth rights, immigrant and refugee rights, and reproductive rights and justice. Through these shows, they aim to share a broader love for community in general. Beneficiary organizations will be tabling and speaking at events, and members of the band are available for comment about why they are choosing to organize a series of DIY punk shows as a site of resistance. Not only do the bands want showgoers to attend – they hope people will walk away from these events with a sense of how they can participate in building communities where people stand up for others through decisive action.     Years in the making, D.C. shoegaze quartet Big Hush finally release their debut album, Spirit/Wholes today, August 11th, 2017! The quartet, comprised of players from Pygmy Lush and Flasher, explores the intersections between harmony-laden melancholy, off-kilter punk, and cacophonous shoegaze. The entire album is available to stream over at Music & Riots, so head on over there and give it a listen - Music & Riots Full Album Stream The band just completed a round of tour dates on the east coast and maybe some of you made it out to see them? Hopefully you were able to pick up a record from them in person but if you didn't make it to one of the shows, the album is available for order through our online store here: Order Big Hush vinyl Big Hush released a video for their track “Cough" a few weeks back and you can watch it over at IMPOSE here if you didn't catch it: Watch the video via IMPOSE today “‘Cough’ is about being caught in a rut for so long that you lose touch with yourself and grow complacent about the shape of your life,” Big Hush says of the track. “The song is a plea that you could make to a friend, or yourself, to fight the easy temptation of viewing one's identity as reducible, or static. We're not as hard-wired as we think; we can always try to be better.” NPR had this to say about Spirit/Wholes - “…features (appropriately) hushed vocals from all four members, cooing over a messy, punk-sick shoegaze. It can, from songs that read as intimately as notes passed between friends, make for quite the harmony-riddled racket.” Originally envisaged as two separate albums, the ten tracks featured on Spirit/Wholes were recorded throughout 2014 and 2015. Embodying the sonic evolution of a band that has flourished with time, each track sears through dense textures and cloying harmonies with a scalding clarity. Big Hush had these comments on the album - "Spirit/Wholes was written as two separate EPs over the span of three years, and in a way the songs are reactionary tales. That's the way I've always thought of them. Each new song is a reaction to the song written before it, and the space that song inhibits, each void created by one song, is filled by the next, and so reveals a new void. The EPs seem to do the same. It’s funny, how a lot of things in life tend to embody a reactionary nature, capitalism is dictated by market reactions, relationships evolve dictated on reactions to each other, the weather reacts to changes in currents and temperature. This record is sort of an unintentional embodiment of that aspect, following a path of necessary change, in contrast to what's always been familiar." Before THOU released their 2014 Gambit Big Easy Award winning, Summit, they spent the spring of 2008 rushing to complete their second full-length, Peasant, in time for a month and a half trek across the United States. This record would be their last true album to abandon melody for the self indulgent, “Southern” styled riffing that had most of their early fans saying, “I thought you’d be bigger with more tattoos and beards.” Originally released on vinyl by Level Plane Records, this edition has been remastered by Adam Tucker (Signature Tone Recording) and housed in a tip-on style gatefold jacket with 180gram black vinyl and a 20 page booklet. This double LP also offers the complete version, including the CD-only tracks from the To Carry a Stone EP (released in 2008 by Noxious Noize) as well as bonus tracks from the Malfeasance/Retribution EP (released in 2008 on Feast of Tentacles and Rimbaud) and an unreleased cover of "Aneurysm." There are a limited number of copies that include a 9x3 screen printed cloth patch. These are only available through Robotic Empire and the band on tour. Thou will have their copies of Peasant starting on July 16th. In addition to the re-issue we've printed up some fancy new T-shirts just for the Peasant release. It's been a while since I've announced a new distro update, the main reason being I had wanted to launch all these new items and restocks with the brand spankin' new Robotic Empire website launch but things are taking a bit longer then I thought with that. Since I'm not wanting to rush the new store along, I've decided to go ahead and list these new additions and restocks and let you guys get at them now. There are so many great albums sitting around here staring me in the face, I couldn't take it any longer so here's a full May update for you below. Hopefully the new shopify store will be ready to roll later this month and it's sure been a long time coming. A new Robotic Empire T-shirt is being designed by Aaron Powers of New Antlers - http://www.newantlers.com and that will be available when the new store launches! It's been a lovely, long and rainy spring up here at Robo HQ. With all that rain there have been some massive road washouts in the area and detours up the wazoo. The Big Hush album is currently in production for an August release date and I'm sure we'll have them in stock long before that warm summer month arrives. Tour dates for Big Hush will be announced soon and I'm hoping to make my way off the mountain and travel to Seattle to see them live. That would certainly make my summer. Also in related news, Pygmy Lush have written a new album and it's about to begin mastering with Carl Saff! I've heard that tour dates are possible for those guys too, so I'll keep you informed as I find out. There are a few other things in the works over here but I'll save those tidbits for another time.     Well, it's been a busy start to 2017 for Robotic Empire thus far. With the Malady 12" repress and then Isis' - Wavering Radiant being released soon after, you guys have been keeping me busy with all the orders. Things have slowed down now and I'm all caught up on packing & shipping orders and boy does that feel good! Winter is slowly coming to a close up here in the mountains and at this time of the year there are some spectacular sunrises and sunsets. It was a heavier winter this year but the massive snow accumulation was exciting! Some final snowmobile rides have been happening lately and seeing fresh cougar prints up in the forest was a treat. Mud season will arrive soon, bringing it's own set of challenges, but rest assured that hard working Jeep Cherokee will haul your packages through anything! Lots of new items and restocks had been arriving in the mail but it wasn't possible to attend to them or do a distro update until now. I'm pleased to finally send out these lists and let you guys look over all the new additions to the online store. Loads of new Bastard Noise releases came in, (and more are on the way!). Some extremely limited Dead albums, a wide variety of releases from Gilead Media & Magic Bullet Records (please glance at the lists, too many to individually mention). Hip Kid Records sent in some great new music and I've stocked Halo Of Flies newest items and the Cloud Rat repress. I encourage you to give a listen to the Tristan Welch releases. Tristan submitted a demo cassette and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to carry any material he had available at this time. That God Bless America CD is top notch. 2017 will continue to be a busy year for Robotic! Since I'm very excited about these releases why not share some status reports? Artwork is currently being set up for the Jesu - Ascension 2x12", test presses are currently being made for the Big Hush 12", Pygmy Lush have written and recorded a new album and test presses will begin for that one soon! Virginia Creep are working on a new cassette release & Thou's - Peasant 2x12" is coming together, we'll have that ready for their summer shows. In addition to all that fun news, after all these years Robotic Empire will be getting a new website and online store! Our current Zencart store is so old, outdated and honestly very frustrating to deal with most of the time. I CAN NOT WAIT, for the launch of the new site. Late March is the tentative time frame for that to happen but these things can't be rushed. Excited either way, and I think you all will be too once you see the difference! Hopefully some of that news peaks a bit of interest. In current news, Malady is playing their first of two reunion shows tonight and if you were lucky enough to get a ticket to one of those we know you'll enjoy yourself! The band will have their newly repressed 12" with them for sale so be sure to pick up a record from them in person. We expect our copies to arrive next week so we're going to list these up for sale in the online store right now. You can grab a copy through us if you are unable to see the band live. Malady's sole LP is a unique release, simultaneously embracing and disregarding the abrasive sounds the five members first gained notoriety for as founders of pg.99 and City of Caterpillar. Originally released in the mid-00's, this self-titled album looks even further to the members' roots of grunge, alternative and punk rock music. These styles' straightforward nature mutated with the chaotic sounds of emotional hardcore blend into an unparalleled sound. The records were pressed on opaque green colored vinyl with a brown splatter and we've yet to see how they look so we apologize for the lack of photos at this time. We'll update the store and post some nice pictures as soon as we have our hands on them! In the meantime, head on over to the online store and pick up your copy.     Also, I'm realizing that when MicLima Emailed me about the clarification on the colored vinyl I was 100% out of my mind dealing with order madness. I incorrectly stated that the Robotic Empire variants would be on clear vinyl. They are as follows: Royal Blue vinyl with white splatter & Black vinyl with White Splatter.     Hey everyone, September is almost over and fall is creeping up on us out here in the beautiful mountains of NE Washington. Firewood cutting, chimney pipe cleaning, various last minute cleanup and repairs around Robo headquarters have been on the agenda as we prepare for winter snow that will eventually come. Self described as 60's Thai Funk, Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks. Please check them out.     Hey guys. We're so excited to announce our June 24th release which is a new album from BASTARD NOISE titled "The Honesty Shop". Yes we know we are a day early but we are so stoked we just can't wait! For the past 25 years, BASTARD NOISE has articulated it's mission between the spectrum of sheer, primitive "caveman electronics" to the spectral fascination of man's ridiculous "legend in his own mind'" status and regression through technology. With over 90 releases to date, enter the brand new full length LP by Bastard Noise titled "The Honesty Shop". Two long form compositions at nearly 20 minutes each that were custom designed, arranged, recorded, mixed and professionally edited by Michael Rozon ("THE RED LIST", "A CULTURE OF MONSTERS", "SKULLDOZER" and "ROGUE ASTRONAUT" to name a few). This time around the line-up of Bastard Noise consists of New York based sound designer/performer Anthony Saunders and founding member Eric Wood. Vast, post Armageddon landscapes riddled with extremely dynamic geography that is crystal clear in delivery and accentuated with Wood's most brutal and extreme vocals to date. Cut by engineer master David Cheppa (NWA, GETO BOYS, BLACK FLAG, KRATWERK, etc.), "THE HONESTY SHOP" is a must have for all mutants addicted to hearing more in sound. Packaged in a screen printed, single pocket jacket including a screen printed insert (screened by our buds at Broken Press in Seattle!) containing lyrics, this release is limited to 400 copies on clear candy colored pink vinyl, 100 of which are a deluxe version including an enamel pin and cloth patch. Cloth patch is white cloth with black ink and we have 2 color versions of the enamel pin, silver and gold. Sorry, no choice on the pin color, we will choose when packing your order. On a personal note, I (Lindsay) just want to say that it's been an amazing pleasure to work with and get to know Eric Wood further throughout this project. He is an amazingly talented man and a very unique individual who cares so deeply about what he creates and the world and people around him.
