So I played in a death metal band for a while back when I was in high school, and right after. We recorded some stuff, some of which I'm pretty proud of. I think it's pretty cool, and I think some of you guys would be interested in hearing it too. We were like, thrashy old school death metal. Like old Morbid Angel, maybe some Possessed, crossed with some black metal maybe like late-era Immortal. But lots of Morbid Angel I basically wanted to be Trey Azagthoth, and didn't do a great job hiding it haha. Those guitar solos mannnn. Anyway, we made 2 demos/EPs, a year apart. The first one is from August 2003, when I was 17 and just about to enter high school. The 2nd one is from August 2004, just after graduation when I was 18. The first one is obviously lesser quality, as we recorded it in my garage rehearsal space with a very bootleg DIY setup. I still love it though. Both of these albums are on Youtube, but I think i'd like to highlight some individual songs first.

Slaves BC fucking rules. All is Dust and I am Nothing is a concept album centered on the book of Ecclesiastes, which is appropriately bleak subject matter for the band's vicious, doom-infected blackened hardcore. Their tempos range from a blistering, blasting sprint to a hyper-distorted Cro-Magnon stomp, alternately cramming in black metal's intensity, hardcore ferocity, and sludgy doom's lumbering gait (or sometimes all three). As much as I appreciate the breakneck parts, I daresay that Slaves BC find their strongest footing when they hammer down tense, simmering riffs in a torturous slow-to-mid-tempo (see "There Is Nothing for Me Here" if you never want to feel happiness again). "Four years after «How Hate Is Hard To Define» and a pair of splits, here's the long-awaited second full-length from Toulouse, France's PLEBEIAN GRANDSTAND. «Lowgazers» marks another impressive step in the band's quest of total aural devastation : armed with new drummer Ivo (Stuntman, PAL…), the four-piece picks the most dissonant and experimental aspects of black metal, hardcore and sludge to create an unreal vortex of desolation. SCHÖNESENDE - s/t LP (NAR 060) SCHÖNESENDE is the solo project of Matthew Bunkell, known for his work with LIGHT BEARER and MOMENTUM. With the exception of Jack Riddleston’s vocals on the song »Rise, Moloch«, spoken words by Joanne and Gary Bunkell and a the voice of postman-turned-poet Charles Bukowski and others, Matthew has written and recorded his debut album »Schönesende« all by himself. The endeavour, started in 2012, marks Matthew’s exploration of philosophical as well as psychological themes. Over the course of almost 70 minutes, »Schönesende« does not only musically explore different facets of Black Metal, Folk and abstract experimental music, but also immerses its listeners in a multi-disciplinary philosophical discourse revolving around questions about the human condition. Matthew, who in the near future intends to publish a collection of short stories and a novel which tie into the themes of the Schönesende project, cites authors such as Ernest Becker, Allen Ginsberg, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, John Fante and Bukowski as influences for his art. Becker’s work – in which the cultural anthropologist postulates that the denial of one’s death or mortality is a driving force for human behaviour of all types – resonated so profoundly with Matthew that he decided to explore this topic further with Schönesende. Just like Schönesende’s music open-minded and diversified approach to Black Metal and its playful interaction with other genres, Matthew’s lyrics transcend simplistic dualistic concepts. »No one perpetrates evilness for the sake of evil. We live in an existence of subjective truths which we will never truly universally share and are trying to make sense of«, Matthew says in regards to the considerations which have informed Schönesende. Taake ‎– Hordaland Doedskvad (on Perverted Taste) 2005 limited Pic Disc. This is one of the first hand-numbered 300 pressings that COMES WITH ITS COVER!!! The median prices on Discogs for example, reflect the prices for the regular pic discs without this cover. Keep this in mind. and... A first *regular* pressing of Ulver - Nattens Madrigal on Displeased Records, from 2002. Also in excellent condition!!
