  1. I am having a pretty serious problem with my debut carbon, and cannot seem to find any Help or information from others with this issue. My table will not play records at normal speed when the platter is in place. I have tested the table with the platter off to make sure the issue is not with the belt or motor, and it is only when the platter is in place that the table has trouble getting to speed. It moves as if it cannot carry the weight of the platter, sluggish and slow or not at all. The pitch is either low or severely inconsistent. I have tried cleaning the table thoroughly numerous times, replacing the belt, and even got an acrylic platter. None of these have fixed the problem. Someone please Help me figure this out!
  2. Yet another thread on the Debut Carbon! I've looked through the most recent threads and think I'm ready to pull the trigger on the Esprit but was wondering if there's any reason why I'm better off buying the Debut Carbon DC and adding a Speedbox vs the built in Speedbox that comes with the Esprit. Personally I like the idea of having it built in, plus it's like getting the acrylic platter thrown in for an extra $20. And I guess I'll open up a can of worms here and ask if there's any other table for $600 that would blow the Esprit out of the water? I do not want to buy used/vintage as I don't have the patience/skill to tinker with it and get it up to speed, and upgradeability (is that even a word?) isn't important to me. I want a table I can pretty much plug and play and not worry about for a few years.
  3. Hi folks - I've been (mostly) lurking here for years and decided it was time to formally ask for some help with my setup. I started experiencing a hissing sound in my right channel due to my receiver and I'm wondering if it's a better idea to upgrade the receiver or simply repair it. It's not out of warrant, and HK doesn't have any repair centers nearby. My setup is as follows: Turntable Pro-ject Debut Carbon w/ Ortofon 2M Red Pro-ject Speedbox S Receiver/ Preamp Harman Kardon HK 3390 (using the built-in preamp) Speakers Pioneer SP-BS21 Bookshelf Speakers and a Pioneer Sub SW-8MK2 All of this audio equipment lives in a medium/small living room, so I don't see a huge reason to upgrade to a larger set of speakers. I have my TV and gaming consoles connected to the receiver as well. An audio technician in my area said he could take a look at the receiver and replace any damaged parts for around $120. Considering I use the receiver as an airplay base station, pre-amp, and for all A/V needs should I repair it or spring for something else? Any recommendations? I'm leaning towards the Onkyo A-9050 since it also has an optical input that I can feed my TV/ Gaming systems into. Is an optical input an improvement considering I only plan on having a 2.1 system for the foreseeable future? Thanks for taking the time to read this.
  4. I'm hoping over the next year to acquire the components to a decent audiophile system. I think for a turntable I've chosen a Pro-ject Debut Carbon. What would I need (or want) in the way of preamps, stereos, speakers to complete a nice little living room sound system. This doesn't need to be something that can play my T.V. audio or CDs or anything. I just want a system dedicated to quality vinyl sound.
  5. Hello everyone, I'm in the market for an entry level TT and I've been doing some skimming via Google through forums (such as AudioKarma and a couple threads on here) that had reviews and asked similar questions. I've noticed Needle Doctor is selling both models fitted with a Ortofon 2M Red, at around the same price. Both have enticing features, such as the Carbon's visual appeal and the Denon's automatic operation. What I wanted to know is, has anyone either owned, sampled, or had an experience with both of them which ultimately made your decision to choose one (or conversely, not wanted one) of them? Thanks in advance for any input provided.
