Zack Mexico is a ferocious Psychedelic POP/Indie Rock band, whose original songs are a collaboration of the technical prowess of multi-instrumentalist band members and their visceral love affair with creating music. In 2011 the North Carolina based Experimental Rock band Zack Mexico was formed in Kill Devil Hills by John Saturley, Jamie Brumbeloe, Joey LaFountaine and TJ Harrington. Sharing common interests and their passion for creating music; Matt Wentz joined Zack Mexico in 2012, Josh Martier and Stephen Brown in 2014 and Tyler Byers in 2015. With two outstanding drummers, Joey LaFountaine and Josh Martier, Zack Mexico emerge from a slim and moving line of sand in the open Atlantic proving they are a force that can make some noise. These dudes played a show a few months ago with another band on my label and I was blown away by how good they were. Had to work with them. Check them out and hopefully you'll enjoy what you hear. From At War With False Noise: Bong's debut full-length, this has been long unavailable and I thought it was long-overdue to see it come out on vinyl given recent reissues of their other records. This is Bong as I remember them when they first started out; there's a primitive, sparse and lonely sound to the first tune, "The Stone Mountain". It's almost a continuation of bass player/vocalist Dave Terry's previous band - the masterful Trollman Av Ildtoppberg - and is a mysterious, stoned-out hymn to lost and forgotten spirits, resplendent with some wild 70s Japanese psych soloing. Second track (and side) Bethmoora in contrast is an 18-minute stoner meditation: led by sitar this is total kosmiche music, proof that Bong are infulenced as much by the late 60s Krautrock scene (particularly Popol Vuh, Gunter Schickert, Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream etc) as they are by Sleep and Hawkwind. Drop out! Taking up an entire LP is their hypnotic cover of Pink Floyd's "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun"; building up over the course of some 20 minutes from silence, it's a masterful display of repetition and trance, with thunderous, booming vocals and white noise guitar solo wipeouts from Mike Vest. Genius! Everything's been remastered specifically for vinyl by Adam Richardson of Ramesses/11Paranoias and sounds the absolute business. Heavy duty. Very chuffed to be doing this as Bong have been one of my favourite bands for many years now and I've known them all from putting them on and being down in Newcastle etc for many years, so it feels like it's come full circle to get this out there! This is a VERY expensive release to do so I very much appreciate all pre-orders. Don't make me sell any of my own records again please! This Tokyo band started channeling the spirits of the Japanese psychedelic underground in the summer of 2012, quickly developing the sound of ‘60s psychedelia to a breathtaking degree. Their debut album exerts an elemental power. Enlivening their sound with sitars, percussive drums, theremins, wind instruments and ethereal vocals, the band manages to sound powerfully spacious and lazily serene all at once. Their songs can be light as air, or heavy as earth. Many evolve out of intense experiences of engagement with the natural world. The album’s first track, “Can You Imagine Nothing?” was written over a night spent jamming on a suspended footbridge in remote mountains. As the song progressed the bridge began to sway, making band members feel as though they were floating weightless in midair. Drummer Go Kurosawa says that KIKAGAKU MOYO use sound to recreate passages in nature where natural geometric patterns appear, like snowflakes and honeycombs. The music also reflects patterns found in the mental state of hypnogogia, where one sees colors and patterns appear out of complete darkness. The simple, hypnotic drones on this album gradually unfold into complex polyrhythmic structures—fractal architecture for the ears. Each song builds on a direct yet otherworldly folk/psych vibe, evolving into a joyous, haunting, far-out and totally colorful tribal sound. Lysergic mind-expanding soundscapes, ghostly rhythms, clouds of uplifting fuzz, swirling guitar excursions into space, water-stained sitar licks and beautifully wasted vocals are guaranteed to send you.
