There's a new full length on the horizon... and these songs are about a lot of loss, love and voice. One of these songs is about one our dear friends, the late great Barker Gee ("Shaggy"). RIP. "The Tide" video: GREENSLEEP- "Cheap Headphones" LP New York's 90's indie/punk vets, GREENSLEEP are back after a quick 18 year break. Since breaking & recently reuniting, they have delivered a slew of new songs with their "Summer Single Series" & "Things We Didnt Know EP", with new member Scott Martin (of Silent Majority/Mind Over Matter). 3. In the summer of 2009, Appleton, Wisconsin punk group Tenement prepared to embark on yet another trip across the United States in their 1986 Dodge short bus. Like their recording sessions of the time period, their method of travel was often grueling and economical. They played with brutal honesty and they lived with brutal honesty. After a violent incident that resulted in a lot of blood, a lot of broken glass, and the dismissal of half of the rhythm section from the group, this behavioral pattern would ultimately lead to the demise of the first major lineup of the band, and usher in a new era of introspection and experimentation. In 2011, their first two full length records, Napalm Dream and TheBlind Wink, were released only a few months apart and lead to Tenement's widespread recognition as one of America's most notable melodic punk bands. Four years later, they released what many critics, from The New York Times to Rolling Stone, viewed as their major statement and first big achievement- Predatory Headlights. Their new singles collection, brought to you by Grave Mistake Records and Toxic Pop Records, represents the time between the release of their early LPs and their 2015 sprawling double album. Bruised Music, Volume Two is not only a collection of singles, but really a collection of transitional tunes that would form the basis of their present sound and distance them from their early juvenile aesthetic and more simplistic approach to the punk idiom. Eric Mayer joined the group on drums at the onset of this period, and two original members Amos Pitsch and Jesse Ponkamo, on guitar and bass respectfully, continued as the melodic force. Much of the material heard within was recorded at home on 8 track machine and cassette recorders; though a small portion of it was engineered and mixed byNapalm Dream and Predatory Headlights' production mastermind, Justin Perkins. These selections have a distinct sheen and lend a signature quality to the record as a whole. You'll hear the first inkling of Tenement's interest in the fusion of classical stringed instruments and pop music in "Wouldn't Let You Go", an instrumental piece called "Jet Slug" that sits somewhere between Pavement and Ferrante & Teicher, the chunky blown out punk/pop of "Blast Exhaust" and "Taking Everything" which seem too aggressive to label simply as "pop punk" yet too melodic to label as "hardcore", the acoustic ballad "Your Sway..." with Nick Drake-esque chord patterns. You'll hear the twinkling pianos of "Perverse Universe" and the jangling, sparkling guitars and lush vocal harmonies of "Paper Airplanes", and it will sound so achingly familiar yet so hard to generalize or pin down. This is the very sorcery of Tenement, and on Bruised Music, Volume Two, the spell is stronger than ever. ************************************************************************ Fourteen Tracks in all, including material compiled from the TakingEverything EP, split 7" w/ Culo, split 7" with Cheeky, Freak Cast in Iron"Sick Club" 7" single, Puke and Destroy Vol. 2 7" compilation, and split 7" w/ Screaming Females. All material has once again been mastered for this release by Daniel Husayn at North London Bomb Factory. First pressing 800 on Black / 200 on Coke Bottle Clear. Split release with Toxic Pop Records Coke Bottle Clear / Black Vinyl - $14 Bruised Music Volumes 1 & 2 Package (Black Vinyl) - $25
  4. Out of collecting retirement and noticed this hadn't been posted. "TENEMENT self titled LP (DY289) After the release of last year’s highly anticipated double LP masterpiece, “Predatory Headlights,” comes a new 12” EP by the Wisconsin punk outfit known as Tenement. This self-titled record includes the newly mastered 5-song tour EP only previously released to a limited 50 cassettes, as well as two new unreleased tracks. Like most Tenement releases, this record transitions willingly into a different side of the band, one that’s a little less punk and a little more pop. It’s a sound that’s been poking it’s way through the band’s decade long tarp, finally stretching a hole large enough to crawl out of. The band has always stayed steadfast to being one big polychromatic puzzle. No singular record can properly portray their musical identity as a whole. Here lies yet another piece to the ongoing puzzle, a puzzle many fans surely hope won’t get solved anytime soon." http://www.derangedrecords.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=796 This was up in May, but the orange is still available currently - should start shipping soon according to the update.
  5. The wait is over! Tenement return with a brand new double album, three years in the making! Pre-Order now Tenement's Predatory Headlights The great expanse of Wisconsin to this day remains a wild frontier to many. Even to its own sons and daughters, the thought often persists that perhaps there are demons in the woods, or something unknown in the water. It can be no mistake then that Tenement were raised in these woods and drank of this water. Over the course of their nine year career to date, their work ethic and musical ideas have often been attributed to an outsider mentality and a stubborn individualism. The energy they conjur at will might also at times seem just short of some kind of sorcery. Now, with the release of their new double record, Predatory Headlights, their place in the modern world of music has become distinct. They're no longer only an obscure punk band from the farthest reaches of society's consciousness, but also one of America's great outsider pop groups. The principal songwriter of this trio is Amos Pitsch. He founded the group in 2007 with bassist Jesse Ponkamo, and the two embraced Eric Mayer as their full time drummer some years later. As a live act, they're an assault on the ears, a confusing spectacle, and a dispensary of remedies for the lonely and misunderstood all at once. In a studio setting, as you'll hear in Predatory Headlights, their touch is delicate and thoughtful even at its loudest moments. You can hear the strong influence of bands like The Descendents, The Ramones, and even more primative groups in the playing and execution. But the influence of luminaries such as Ruth Crawford Seeger, William S Fischer, and Robert Kirby are evident in the addition of strings to the pop songs that could stand sturdy on their own even without them. Still upon repeated listening, you might be able to catch an array of other influences, ranging from northern soul to exotica to the avant garde. These are stirred in with ease; something Tenement does naturally as their intention is always steadfast and absolute. In other words, when something needs to be pretty, they make it pretty. And when something needs to be ugly, they leave no gloss, shimmer, or sheen. They strangle the song bird of its TWEET TWEET - and let it cough. Predatory Headlights was completed over the course of three years with the assistance of engineer and co-producer, Justin Perkins. Pitsch has often cited Perkins' involvement in early 2000's groups Yesterday's Kids and The Obsoletes as a heavy influence. Perkins also worked with Tenement on their 2011 offering, Napalm Dream, as well as acclaimed records by the likes of The Goodnight Loving, The Sugar Stems, and The Mystery Girls. The bulk of Predatory Headlights was written and recorded at BFG in Appleton, Wisconsin - Tenement's home and personal studio. The house was symbolically demolished within days of finishing the record, and in a fitting display of finality, three years of sweat and nightmares and beauty and dissonance returned to the soil and found its way back into the water and woods with only this document to prove it ever even existed at all. Thanks to Don Giovanni Records, you hold the very document in your hands - Tenement's newest window into the nature of the human being and the complexity of life:Predatory Headlights. Pre-Order now
  6. Hey, I'm looking for Tenement's 9 demo tracks that were on bandcamp a while back under their split with Screaming Females. They took down 6 of them. E-mailed the band and they mentioned they don't have the wav. files to send. Have e-mailed a bunch of other people who don't have them; curious if anyone on the vinyl collective board has them in order to send to me. Of course, I'll throw $10 at Tenement through their bandcamp and whoever sends me the files will be compensated too. PM me. Thanks
  7. The excellent NOTCHES "Normal" EP is finally out and available on cassette from Hip Kid Records. 100 copies on red imprinted, pro-dubbed cassettes. This New Hampshire band features members of Billy Raygun and Betty Nico playing an absolutely perfect combination of mid-90's alt-rock, pop punk from every era, and still manages to keep it totally unique with an aesthetic and recording firmly rooted in DIY punk. Six bangers that will get, and remain, stuck in your head. Get it here: http://hipkidrecords.storenvy.com Listen to it here: http://hipkidrecords.bandcamp.com
  8. Incredible debut album from this Appleton, WI power trio that's been compared to MBV, Sebadoh, or Sonic Youth but are doing their own thing. Amos from Tenement holds down the drums amidst heavy layers of guitar and blown out bass.
