  1. Unless there was one years ago and I couldn't find it, I thought it might be a good idea to talk about headphones in a thread dedicated to them. In the last four or five months, I've bought (and sold) several pairs, figuring out exactly what I like in fit, sound, style, and function. I now have headphones for work/on-the-go, home (computer), home (video game system), and for recording music. I've learned that I much prefer over-ear to anything else. What I'm looking for now is a decent pair of IEMs, but I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to get them to fit right. I figured I'd start with a cheap pair - I got some MEElectronics M-Duos from the recent Massdrop, and I'm just playing around with them to figure out what fit works. But also, from what I have been able to listen to, these IEMs are not all that impressive sound-wise. Any experiences with different IEM tips (single/double/triple)? Obviously anything going in the ear is very personal, but I'm having trouble with getting them to stay in and not sound pretty bad (though again, it could be the relatively low quality of these IEMs - I'm thinking I'll try some Shure SE215, Hifiman RE-400, or something equivalent in order to see how they sound and feel).
  2. OK, so it's been awhile since I've tampered with my setup and I'm ready to lay down some money on improvements. Right now I'm running a Music Hall 5.1 turntable with a (pretty standard and probably shitty comparatively) Onkyo TX-8255 receiver and some PSB Alpha B1 bookshelf speakers. I just purchased Sennheiser 6XX headphones from Massdrop, set to ship in December, and it got me thinking of my setup and what I can do to really get the most out of them. I'm guessing I should start with replacing the Onkyo receiver and was thinking of getting a Yamaha integrated amp in the $500-$600 range. I was also thinking of putting the money towards a dedicated headphone amp instead (or eventually in tandem) but don't know if I'll get the most out of the headphones if it's still running through the Onkyo. Suggestions? I'm open to any and all suggestions especially since I am fairly inexperienced when it comes to the finer points of setup. I'm willing to modestly invest and would like something that would last and obviously sound great. Thanks for any help and input.
  3. Just got an email from amazon that these are in their deal of the day for $100: http://amzn.to/2agTVhS I have the bigger model K551, sound-wise they're pretty much identical. Incredible value for the price (even though it says these are down from $150, they actually retailed at around $250).
  4. Slowly trying to collect every David Bazan/Pedro the Lion release on vinyl. Here are the few pressings I have left: Pedro the Lion - Whole EP (10") Pedro the Lion - It's Hard To Find A Friend ‎(LP, White) Pedro the Lion - Winners Never Quit (LP, White) Pedro the Lion - Winners Never Quit (LP, Grey) Pedro the Lion - God Rest Ye Marry Gentlemen (7", Baby Blue Marbled) David Bazan - Jingle Bells / All I Want For Christmas ‎(7", White) Nada Surf, David Bazan - Barsuk Records Celebrating 15 Years ‎(Lathe, Single, Pol) Feel free to PM me if you are interested in parting with any of the above. Thanks, guys and gals!

  6. I listen to all kinds of music (rock, metal, alt, jazz, world, r&b, classical, hip-hop, etc., etc.) on vinyl through headphones. Here is my current and modest set up. Sony STR-D790 Receiver/Amp Technics SL-Q2 Turntable w/ AT92E cartirdge Yamaha NS-6490 Speakers Pioneer SE-205 Vintage Headphones I also listen to Spotify on these mobile devices iPhone 4S iPad 2 Lenovo Thinkpad T60 Last year I bought a pair of Monoprice 8323s, and I liked the sound a lot. Although they got a little uncomfortable after an hour or so. I ended up giving those to my oldest daughter - she is starting to get into her own music. I also bought a pair of Monoprice 9397s - IEMs. I liked them as well, but they didn't fit my ears, so I gave them to my youngest daughter. All I have now is an old pair of Pioneer SE-205s (inherited from my father-in-law), but the left channel is in and out. They also tend to crush my head after about 20 minutes. So I need new headphones pretty bad. IEMs don't work for me as I have weird ear holes. I'm looking for entry- to mid-level, portable over-ear headphones that well represent a wide variety of genres. I'm pretty wide open to suggestion. Well maybe not wide open. I can't spend all that much. I'm worried about the comfort of on-ear. Also sound leakage. Not a big deal for home use, but I travel a lot and I'd want to keep my silly music to myself. I'm not opposed to the idea of open back, I just probably wouldn't be able to travel with them. I'd want to keep my budget under $100. Any help would be great appreciated. Please and thank you.
  7. I'm selling my less than 6 week old Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear Headphones (black with red cables). Comes with case, box, and everything that came with it. Quite impressive sound, and pretty comfortable - I just find that I think I'd prefer over-ear headphones, but am very much considering Momentum Over-Ears. These will have almost all of the 2 year warranty in tact. I think I will have used them for less than 10 hours total. I'll ship anywhere in the world included in my price, $80US, which includes Paypal fees. Open to discussion/negotiation/interesting trades. Edit: Update - I lowered my price (shipping included) to $80US. Once I sell I'm eyeing a new pair of cans. Help me buy some new cans!
  8. looking to get about 120 or best offer for them, they are in good shape, i can send pics. Bought them about 2 years ago and rarely use them. If anyone is interested please let me know. thanks
  9. I searched around and didn't see anything really dedicated to your daily-use travel / commuting IEM. Everyone seems to spend a lot of time with their cans / amps at home, but what do you use when you're on the move? There's a HUGE price spectrum for IEMs, presumably the high end of which is inconsequential considering the quality of music I assume most people are listening to on their phones while on the move. Although I appreciate the audiophile perspective on the rest of the sub-forum, I am looking for a more relaxed perspective here. I am in the market for a decent sounding IEM for my everyday commute. Comfort and sound are the two biggest factors, as they'll be spending a lot of time in my ears, and I'd like to get the best sound out of my - albeit limited - resource: iPhone 6, Spotify, Music, Podcasts. Don't shoot. Can't bring my turntable with me anyway. I'm in the ~$100 range. I also have relatively big ears that previous IEMs have had a hard time staying in. I listen to a decent variety of music... mostly punk / hardcore / indie / emo, some rap and hip hop, some electronic music. E.g., I want to hear instrumentation while listening to Fucked Up, get good punch listening to Danny Brown, and feel the warmth listening to Purity Ring. Although there are a lot of solid brands that have been cranking out mid-range consumer IEMs forever (Sennheiser, Shure, JBL, Sony), there are a lot of smaller companies, many overseas, that are putting out solid sounding IEMs are far more affordable prices (Brainwavz, Hifiman, MEElectronics). Who has experience with what? Some of the top choices I am considering are: Sennheiser Momentum In-Ear RHA MA750 Brainwavz B2 and, I hate to say it, Bose SoundTrue In-Ear I admit I could be completely off by sound profile having never actually tried any of these myself, so I'm looking for good suggestions with some examples / reasoning. Also, if this thread belongs merged elsewhere, I apologize. Otherwise, I hope you all have some good insight. Thanks!
  10. Obviously there have been other headphones threads, but they haven't really addressed my specific needs. I've been doing research on headphones for awhile. Basically, I have about $100 to spend (can go a little over). I want something that delivers great sound quality and is also comfortable. I am not looking for ear buds or any in-ear device. My biggest concern is comfort. I want something I can wear for 5-6 hours a day. I almost bought the Sennhesier HD-280 PRO, but then I read a bunch of reviews that talked about how tight and uncomfortable they are. I was also looking at the Grado SR80i, but the price seems to have really jumped lately (and I also heard about some comfort issues there). Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have currently been using Sennheiser CX300 earbuds at work. I like the sound, but I can't use them for more than a couple hours a day. Thanks!
  11. Modern Vinyl is proud to team up with The Story Changes for our newest contest, in which we’ll be giving away a couple awesome items: (1) A vinyl copy of the new album from The Story Changes, titled Static and Trembling and (2) one pair of Grado headphones, the details of which you can see in the image above. The album was produced and engineered by Hawthorne Heights’ Micah Carli, while being described as a “nod to the late-’90s alternative and punk scene.” It’s available for purchase over at I Am Shark and is streaming on the contest page. Furthermore, you can also download one of the album tracks, titled “We Were Numb,” here. The Grado headphones, part of their “Prestige Series,” are valued at $150. Enter here: http://modern-vinyl.com/2013/10/15/contest-the-story-changes-grado/ Really like the TSC color variant, and wouldn't mind snagging a pair of these Grado's!
  12. I've got 2 pairs of Beats by Dre Studio headphones in black. These retail for $200+, and Ive seen them go as high as $300 depending where you get them. These are in mint condition. Come with the carrying case and headphone jack/cord. Can email pics to anyone interested. Asking price is $90 a piece, $150 for both.
  13. I'm looking for an inexpensive (under $50) pair of over-the-ear headphones. I want decent sound quality, good comfort, NOT bass heavy, no celebrity endorsements. I currently use a vintage set of Pioneer SE-205s. They sound great to my ear, but they are skull crushers (not in a good way). Also, the cord causes a crackly sound when moved too much, so they're showing their age. A friend let me borrow his Sennheiser HD 202. They push way too much bass and barely go over the ear. Closer to on ear. Another guy let me borrow his ATH-M30fs. They're not bad, a little bass heavy, pretty comfortable. These aren't deal breakers, but other things that might be nice: Portability (fold up), detachable cord, long, thick-gauge cord, no "Y" cords. Any suggestions at all would be great. Please and thank you.
  14. Yo. So I'm getting married in the next year probably, I have 2 parking tickets, and most relevant to this sale, I got the PtL reissues in the mail and now I have 4 copies of some records which is dumb. I don't need to keep hauling around multiple copies of these records, great though they may be. So! I have this shit, all original pressings all great condition. I won't get rid of anything I only have one of (Whole, Big Trucks, etc.) so don't ask. Fun Fact! If you make an offer on a lot of records at once, I might not notice you're lowballing me! Some stuff is possibly pending, don't worry about it though. LPs (fuck a repress, you definitely want to keep it OG) It's Hard to Find a Friend (original Devil in the Woods pressing on black, mega rare yo) It's Hard to Find a Friend (Jade Tree on Grey) It's Hard to Find a Friend (Jade Tree on White) PENDING The Only Reason I Feel Secure (not in great condition [still playable, still sounds like the voice of God coming through your speakers, just a little crackly. Lowball me]) Winners Never Quit (Black) Winners Never Quit (Grey) Winners Never Quit (White) PENDING Control (Green [autographed by Davey B himself! Frame it and put it on your wall!]) Control (Coke Bottle) Achilles Heel (Yellow) Headphones s/t (Red, I know it's still in print but if you're gonna purge you might as well purge it all) Christmas Singles! (These will get you laid this time of year, guaranteed) (I'm keeping one of each. Fight it out amongst yourselves) I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day (Green /500) MINE I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day (Red /1000) SOLD Jingle Bells (White /200) Jingle Bells (Green /400) Jingle Bells (Red /400) SOLD Happy Xmas (Blue /200) Happy Xmas (Gold /400) Happy Xmas (Clear /400) Wish My Kids Were Here (Orange /200) MINE Wish My Kids Were Here (Yellow /400) PENDING Wish My Kids Were Here (Red /400) SOLD
