  4. https://www.joyfulnoiserecordings.com/products/thom-fekete-burner Our guy Thom has spent a lot of time at home lately. Thom is the guitarist of Surfer Blood, and he was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Thom’s condition has made him unable to tour with Surfer Blood… but it hasn’t stopped him from creating this amazing bedroom pop album, titled “Burner”. Recorded on a 4-track in Thom’s bedroom in South Florida, “Burner” is lo-fi, intimate, and earnest. Music rarely feels this special. 100% of all money raised will benefit Thom’s cancer treatment. Here is a message from Thom: Sometime between March and June of 2015 while healing from two surgeries and starting chemotherapy, I hunched over my four track and created this disaster. No multiple takes, no expensive mics, no outside direction…just me in my bedroom with a very cheap, bare bones setup. Some of these songs reflect on good times, days I'm able to walk on my own, talk, and function like a somewhat normal human being. Others remind me of barfing between vocal takes, wheel chairs, dilaudid withdrawals, and tears, from my family, my spouse, my dear friends. However, like everything in my life, I did manage to find some humor in my situation, and I hope that helps level out all the heavy stuff. Love you, be happy pls, Thom https://www.joyfulnoiserecordings.com/products/thom-fekete-burner The cassette (/200) is sold out, but vinyl still available. *NOTE: our "pay what you want" feature stopped working for some reason... We have decided to keep the prices cheap, but PLEASE consider giving additional funds to Thom's GoFundMe page. Thank you in advance! xo JNR
  5. From Joyful Noise: Performed and recorded live by Kishi Bashi and his accompanying string ensemble, the new album (appropriately titled "String Quartet Live!") consists of nine songs from albums “151a” and “Lighght” (as well as a Talking Heads cover!). Where his first two releases featured an array of percussion and electronic elements, the new live album finds K’s familiar songs reimagined, allowing his soaring vocals to take center stage above a foundation of interweaving strings. The string ensemble gives new life to these tracks, with updated arrangements and the infectious energy that can only come from Kishi Bashi's amazing live performances. "String Quartet Live!" is released November 13, 2015 on Vinyl, CD, and Digital - and is now available for Pre-Order! In addition to Blue and Black vinyl, we have a limited VIP Edition pressed on Cyan & Red split-color vinyl w/ Yellow splatter. This version includes a bonus flexi-disc containing a live cover of Beirut's "A Sunday Smile", and is limited to a one-time pressing of 500 hand-numbered copies. Plus, each copy is SIGNED by Kishi Bashi himself. Pre-order now. Will definitely be picking up a black copy of this!
  6. There's a benefit auction up for Surfer Blood's Thomas Fekete (who is battling a rare form of cancer), with 13 one-of-a-kind (as in 1/1) lathe cuts from Joyful Noise of unreleased tracks from Guided By Voices, Yo La Tengo, Real Estate, Cults, The Drums, Lou Barlow, The Pains Of Being At Heart, Alex Somers, Julianna Barwick, Nick Diamonds, Trail of Dead, The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger, and Surfer Blood. Prices are pretty insane on a few of them already (GBV at almost $1.5k), and there's still a few days left. http://www.surferblood.com/thomas-auction
  7. Kishi Bashi is releasing a live album: http://www.joyfulnoiserecordings.com/kishi-bashi-live-on-valentines.html Also comes with a DVD and digital download of audio/video. Release date: 02/04/2014 Cost: $25 + shipping Tracklist: Intro / Pathos, Pathos (Live) Wonder Woman, Wonder Me (Live) Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It! (Live) I Am The Antichrist To You (Live) It All Began With A Burst (Live) With Or Without You (U2 cover, Live) Manchester (Live) Description: Live on Valentine's is an audio / visual hybrid, limited to just 1000 hand-numbered copies, on deluxe picture-disc vinyl and DVD. Purchase includes instant MP3 download of the album, and HD download of the video (video link will be emailed to you within 24 hours of purchase). NOTE: "Live on Valentines" will not be released in any other format, so don't wait for the CD or iTunes download on this one. Last Valentine's Day, Kishi Bashi performed a sold-out show at Lincoln Hall in Chicago. The show took place halfway through Kishi Bashi's first ever headlining tour, in support of his debut album 151a. The energy was captivating - often moving audience members to tears. Literally. Relying largely on his voice, a violin, and a loop pedal, Kishi Bashi reinterpreted songs for a live setting, bouncing from intimate tracks like "I Am The Antichrist To You" and "Manchester", to the grand and playful "It All Began With A Burst". He even explored the still-under-construction "Philosophize In It! Chemicalize With It!" (which will be included on the upcoming sophomore album, details announced soon). Captured in high-quality audio and visual, the performance is being released just in time for Valentine's Day. Check out a sample here:
  8. https://www.joyfulnoiserecordings.com/memory-map-the-sky-as-well-as-space.html "With “The Sky as Well as Space”, Memory Map continue to flesh out their uniquely guitar-driven blend of indie pop. Few bands straddle song-craft and technical prowess as effortlessly as Memory Map. Using three guitars (one which cheats its way into acting as a bass), a three-piece drum kit, and vocals from all four members, Memory Map organically fuse cascading guitar lines, complex rhythms, and layered vocal harmonies into shamelessly accessible guitar pop. In the three years since their debut, Memory Map have gained depth both in composition and production. The album simultaneously showcases the band at their most catchy (“Magnetic Center”), menacing (“Dark Freshman”), and emotional (“Order In the Waves”, “Antelope Earth”). Why the three-year gap between albums you ask? Well, the delay is largely due to the popularity of a certain cat. Band member Mike Bridavsky owns and takes care of the most famous cat on the planet, Lil BUB. And because Memory Map have been so flexible in working around Lil BUB’s schedule, the band is officially BUB approved." If you know what's good then you won't need any convincing. Beautiful, mathy, poppy, and overall just pleasant on the ears. I can't rep this band hard enough. 250 on clear w/ white splatter (hand numbered) 250 on clear w/ black splatter (hand numbered) Not limited on black Listen to a new song here: https://soundcloud.com/joyful-noise-recordings/memory-map-the-celebrated Listen to their first album here: http://memorymapband.com/album/holiday-band Watch a live video to see if it makes more sense:
  9. I got this test pressing during the Joyful Noise sale and am having a bit of buyer's remorse. I've lined up someone who will buy it at cost, but I'd rather trade it out to get some records I'm looking for. Is anyone interested in a trade?

  13. Announcing... "Tim Kinsella sings the songs of Marvin Tate by LeRoy Bach featuring Angel Olsen" Attention VIPs! Today we are happy to announce the new limited edition album from Tim Kinsella! As the absurdly-lengthy album title suggests, this is a uniquely collaborative effort from a diverse group of individuals. The album is actually the third in a series of collaborations between the prolific poet Marvin Tate and multi-instrumentalist (& former Wilco member) LeRoy Bach. In each collaboration, all stories and melody were provided by Tate; with music and production by Bach. But as the new songs came together, Bach recognized the material had rich possibilities for interpretation, and suggested they hand the mic over to Tim Kinsella (the eccentric voice behind Joan of Arc, Cap'n Jazz, Owls, & Make Believe). Kinsella became the album's narrator, walking the line between judgment and sympathy, and shepherding all of Tate's characters through their various struggles. The then trio enlisted their friend Angel Olsen (Jagjaguwar Records) to contribute throughout. The album is limited to just 1000 hand-numbered copies on swamp green vinyl w/ yellow, red, magenta, & orange splatter. We have only 500 copies available via mailorder, so order quick. The album will be announced publicly on Friday, and until then this sucker is ONLY available to VIPs. All purchases come with an instant MP3 download www.joyfulnoiserecordings.com

  15. Hey there! We have a brand new release to offer you. It's a split LP between Child Bite(Detroit) and We Are Hex(Indianapolis). Like the Child Bite/Dope Body split, it's a one-sided silk-screened LP that looks fucking insane (more fantastic Shawn Knight artwork). And the songs are awesome. Two brand new songs from each band. You might know Child Bite from their recent split 7" with David Yow on Joyful Noise. You might know We Are Hex from their blue room 7" on Third Man Records. Maybe you just know them because they are both awesome bands. And really I could sit here and try to describe the music or you can just go to the link below and stream the whole thing and decide for yourself. Either way, the records are en route and will begin shipping next week. You can order either color or both (and save a few bucks) or just DL it on the cheap. Or stream it for free. Whatever. http://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/child-bite-we-are-hex Here's a mockup. We'll get an actual picture up as soon as they're silk-screened and ready to go. If you are in the Detroit metro area, they are playing a little release show on Friday, September 27th at the Loving Touch in Ferndale, MI. $10 gets you in the door AND a free copy of the LP. That's insane, right? Here's the Facebook invite: https://www.facebook.com/events/144766015734292/
  16. Hey all, I'm looking for the cassette mentioned in the title. It's the "Sing Songs By The Amazing Thinking Fellers Union 282". It came as a freebie with preorders of Helvetia's "Nothing In Rambling" LP from Joyful Noise. I've looked on a few websites and have had no luck. I've also emailed the label a few months ago and haven't gotten a reply. I'm hoping someone on here has a copy just sitting around in their closet forgotten that I could buy for a reasonable price. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Also looking for these BTS releases. Car/Scarin 7" Center Of The Universe/Forget Remember When 7"
  17. Chemicalize With It! Song For The Sold Limited to 1000 hand-numbered copies on clear vinyl w/ multi-colored splatter. Only available via mailorder and at Kishi's September 2013 tour. 18. They're very cool and I'm too big for them (came free with order of Vision Crimes and I got both versions and they didn't have XLs.) I asked Joyful Noise for a Medium and Large and told them that I wouldn't be able to wear them so that if anyone else wouldn't be able to get one from the pre-order to hook them up first... and I still ended up getting the shirts. So who wants one?! Free... you pay shipping. If you want them both, that's fine with me (less work for me and the total shipping to get these out of my hands is less) but please assure me that you will be giving at least one of them to someone and that you won't be selling either. If you live in the NC Triangle area I have no problem handing it off to you in person... as long as it's not a pain in the ass. I live in Garner and work in Durham so I pass through Raleigh everyday... twice. Give these shirts a good home!! (I posted an image of it here, but can't find the image URL anymore.)
