TENDER FURY - "IF ANGER WERE SOUL, I'D BE JAMES BROWN" Limited LP Reissue. Punk rock and hardcore in Southern California as genres need no introduction. It boiled over in the mid-90’s, but there was one band that were part of a greater family tree of Orange County punk rock before all the media attention, money and major label noise. With darker overtones than their contemporaries, they represented a more artistic approach than the rest. They put out a groundbreaking final record that was WAY ahead of its time before ultimately disbanding and disappearing into the ether of punk rock legend. Tender Fury was formed in 1987 by T.S.O.L front-man Jack Grisham and drummer Todd Barnes. After Barnes exiting the band in 1990, The last recordings that became Tender Fury’s final record consisted of a powerhouse lineup of Grisham, Randy Bradbury (Pennywise, One Hit Wonder), Josh Freese (Vandals, Devo, Nine Inch Nails), and Frank Agnew (Adolescents, 45 Grave). A precursor to Grisham’s transition to starting The Joykiller in 1994, Tender Fury’s swansong release “If Anger Were Soul, I’d Be James Brown” (originally released on Triple X Records in 1991) was cited by Grisham later as being a turning point in his career in terms of serious devotion to making music in the aftermath of substance abuse recovery. We at Blackhouse are proud to present the fully remastered and reconstructed re-issue of this classic record for the first time ever available on vinyl in North America. Limited to a one-time run of 500 made with 4 different colored variants, all copies of the album come with a full lyric sheet insert and revamped cover art (as the band originally intended). 3. Dumb release alert: I play in a Nirvana deep cut cover band with a female singer called The End of Music. We play non-album tracks only. We don't advertise as a Nirvana cover band. We don't play more than 20-25 minutes, and we don't put any Nirvana covers online, nor will we ever record any. I grew up listening to these and other stupid songs on bootleg cassettes and "import" CDs, so I decided it would be a good idea to just play these songs live, since most people have never heard them. However, we're stupid, and decided to record 2 covers of covers for a hi-fi stereo lathe cut 7" that is now available. "Turnaround" aka Turn Around (Devo) and "Oh, Me" (Meat Puppets) are the tracks. I'll admit, these two cuts aren't the deepest of the deep, as they were both on major label releases (Incesticide and Unplugged, respectively), but they were the two that we covered best, I suppose. Maybe we'll try a Wipers song next year. Or KISS. We'll see! Spin this monstrosity here: https://theendofmusicmusic.bandcamp.com/album/turnaround-b-w-oh-me We're playing Milwaukee tonight at Cactus Club as part of Triple Eye Industries Fest. Tons of awesome bands. Super cheap. You should probably go if you live nearby. https://www.facebook.com/events/170073890183174/
