  1. Ohhhhhh snap. A new release from Forge Again Records. Two in one year? Wow, make that THREE because we have another one coming in the fall. Be nice about this one though, dudes, since I am also IN this band. Details below! Any questions? Shoot! ENGINES is a five piece noisy indie/punk rock band from Chicago. Originally conceived as a solo project for Philadelphia-based songwriter Craig Woods (TOWERS, ELDER, PETER AND CRAIG, TWO PIECE FEST) under the moniker HOT BAGELS, Woods moved to Chicago in 2014 and soon recruited fellow east coast transplants Lee Zickwolf (RIBBONHEAD, COSTANZA) and Jeff Twietmeyer (ALMOST ARGYLE) and Chicago native Justin Wexler (STILLWELL, FORGE AGAIN RECORDS) as permanent fixtures of the band. After two years of performing and writing as a four piece, they decided to add a full-time vocalist to the mix. Emily Jancetic (HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE, LONGDISTANCERUNNER), once lovingly described as the "Kelly Clarkson of post-hardcore" by All Music Guide, joined in 2016. And thus ENGINES was born. ENGINES plays a brand of indie/punk rock that is is loud but not lacking in dynamics. Noisy, but beautiful, Chaotic, but calm. Dissonant, yet melodic. Obsolete is the complete expression of all of these elements spread out over twelve songs that stand alone but also flow into one another over the course of thirty-six minutes. Recorded and mixed by Neil Strauch at Shirk Studios (with additional recordings by Pete Grossman and Andy Nelson at Bricktop as well as Craig Woods at Kildare and his home). Mastered by Carl Saff, with amazing artwork by Shawn Knight. This is a split release between Forge Again Records, Be Happy Records, Middle Man Records, Killer Tofu Records, and 4UBRO Records. First press LP is limited to 280 copies on mixed random colored vinyl and 20 Wax Mage copies TBD. Wax Mage copies are super limited and as of writing this, there are only 3 available to the public right now (2 sold already, band, labels, and crucial industry insiders are probably snagging the other 15). Pre-orders will begin shipping in early August. I of course prefer you pre-order it from Forge Again, but whatever, get it any way you can. All the labels are slinging copies. Stream some of the tracks now and pre-order here: http://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp/com/album/obsolete Upcoming ENGINES shows: 08.05 Chicago, IL @ Quenchers 08.12 Chicago, IL @ Secret Record Release BBQ Early Show (in Logan, near Township, but if you really want the address hit me up - BYO stuff to BBQ, booze, show is FREE) 08.17 Cleveland, OH @ Now That's Class (tentative) 08.18 Philadelphia, PA @ The Pharmacy 08.19 Richmond, VA @ TBD 08.20 South Bend, IN @ TBD
  2. Anybody who has clicked into this thread has probably heard one or both of these bands by now so I won't bother with a lengthy description of what they sound like. We did a split LP for the two bands. STNNNG broke up while it was in production, so it features their final recordings (done just before the LP that came out earlier this year). CB recorded their songs (with Wes fuckin' Borland) before their lineup change this summer. So in many ways this is a swan song for both bands (though CB will chug along with new members). First (and probably only) pressing limited to 533 copies (241 clear w/black, 241 purple w/blue, 51 Wax Mage purple/blue nebula) and features a multi-color silkscreened A-side with art from Shawn Knight. Above picture is the "digital" cover - I think it's just a part of the screen art. Once they get screened next weekend, I'll post those pics too. Pre-orders will start shipping November 13. You should also check out our other two releases from 2017 - full length LPs from SALVATION and ENGINES. https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/stnnng-child-bite
  3. FAR-022 DAKOTA/DAKOTA - Shoot in the Dark+ LP (2018 reissue) Hey, I hate money, so I decided to reissue this discography LP for the band Dakota/Dakota from Chicago. They broke up 15 years ago. Members went on to form way more famous bands like Russian Circles, Bloodiest, RLYR, Lasers and Fast and Shit, JOB, etc. etc. Instrumental indie/math rock that has since been mutated into the emo revival. Only these guys never bothered with any of the pop punk stuff and just wanked the whole time. So if you like wanky instrumental music, give it a listen. We did it up real nice - random colored vinyl, fancy spot gloss jackets, and even a handful of WAX MAGE vinyl copies. Stream it all here: https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/shoot-in-the-dark
  4. Because we like throwing money away, we're putting out a limited to 20 hi-fi-stereo 12" lathe cut of a non-active band's non-active side project. That's right, the sophomore album from Chicago's PINK GUYS is out TODAY on all of your favorite streaming services. We started recording this in 2014 and finally finished it in 2018. Better late than never, right? Anyhow, you can pre-order the lathe cut NOW. It's gonna be a one-sided clear 12" that will sound and look fantastic. Full color art. Full lyrics and root chords in the liner notes so you can play along. Limited to just 20 copies and selling for less than you can buy a run of the mill 12" at your local record store (or hell, even from most record labels these days). No, we are not related to that PINK GUY who gets all the hits on YouTube. And we were around first, so fuck that guy. This is a pop/punk side project from members of Pink Eyes, Engines, Towers, Stillwell, Peter and Craig, etc. etc. Not some dude in a pink suit. 13 songs in 19 minutes. Songs about our cats, our practice space circa 2014, our pure hatred of tonic water (we had a song about how much we love seltzer on our first album), our friends, a nude painting we found in the garbage, etc. If you like pop, punk, or pop punk, maybe you'll like it? I dunno. Stream/buy here (or find it on Spotify, YouTube, etc. etc.): https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/1471 OR https://pinkguys.bandcamp.com/album/1471
  5. I am putting out a new record by the band SALVATION from Chicago. It is very good. The record turned out very cool. The pre-order is open now and it'll ship in a couple weeks. One random order will get a TEST PRESSING included as a bonus (cut-off for that is next Friday, February 10th at midnight CST). Get on it! SALVATION - Sore Loser LP Blending together elements of noise rock, punk, and grunge, Chicago’s SALVATION has cultivated a rare sound that is injected with strikingly inventive vocals and instrumentation. With their 2017 Forge Again Records nine-song debut LP Sore Loser, SALVATION further refines the sound found on their 2015 Cold Slither Tapes release Royal Fucks. Like their previous effort, Sore Loser was recorded completely live, showcasing the band’s raw fervor and painstaking attention to performance perfection and detail. The vocals are raw and commanding, seeming to simultaneously invoke both aggression and agony. The rhythm section remains the strong, sludgy backbone of the album, driving each song forward as the vocals ebb, flow, and meander throughout. Sore Loser was recorded by Joe Gac at Kildare Studios and mastered by Carl Saff with cover art by Smith Smith. The first pressing of the LP is limited to just 311 (jah bless) copies on random colored vinyl. The picture above is merely a sample of some of the crazy colors in there. They all look and sound great, and we can't guarantee you'll get any particular color, but we'll send the craziest and coolest looking ones out to the earliest orders. Oh and one random order will get a TEST PRESSING! The official release date is March 31, 2017 but pre-orders will start shipping in mid-February. You can hear the first track from the album "True Romance" and pre-order the record NOW on Bandcamp! Stream/Download/Pre-order:https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/sore-loser
  6. All Forge Again Records and Cold Slither Tapes releases are 40% off for the rest of the year using discount code KAIJU at http://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com And our stuff is all already dirt cheap. 2xLPs are $15, single LPs as low as $5. Tapes and CDs even cheaper! Please help us get rid of stuff to make room for new releases in 2017.
  7. Hey folks. I have been running Forge Again Records, which has been putting out actual records and CDs and all that stuff for 15 years now (damn, I am getting old). Last year I decided to put out a cassette for a side project band and created an imprint called COLD SLITHER TAPES in order to do so. I have continued to focus my efforts on records since, but given how much of a bummer the record pressing game is lately (it takes forever), I'll probably only be doing a small handful of LP releases per year going for the time being. Therefore, I decided to start doing some more with the COLD SLITHER TAPES imprint. The first tape was for PINK GUYS and there is, literally, one of those left (also available as a download or a 10" lathe cut from Forge Again Records). But now I'm starting to ramp it up again. The plan is to only release NEW music - albums, EPs, singles, etc. that aren't yet available anywhere else. Pro recordings (at least for now), pro-dubbed tapes (mostly), with digital, etc. Already have three tapes planned for the rest of 2015 (maybe we'll throw another one in there soon...) So if you'd like to check it out, please visit: Website: www.coldslithertapes.com Bandcamp (to stream/buy): http://coldslithertapes.bandcamp.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/coldslithertapes Email: [email protected] Anyhow, history lessons are boring. Let's talk about the awesome shit that's coming out. First up, is a tape from Chicago's SALVATION. It's a fucking hot one. We'll have another announcement later this week and then another the week after that! Starting hot and heavy. If you have some cool stuff, send it my way. Maybe we'll put it out! CST-002 SALVATION - ROYAL FUCKS CS (first press, 100 copies on red chrome cobalt tapes w/white imprint, DL code, pro-dubbed by NAC) - 7 song rager from Chicago's SALVATION, a killer punk/rock/garage/grunge three-piece that will make you think of early days of Nirvana. Shipping now! To stream/buy: https://coldslithertapes.bandcamp.com/album/cst-002-royal-fucks Annnnnd stay tuned in here because the next one will be announced by the end of the week.
  8. Yo dudes, new release! Here's the pitch: Besides having one of the best band names in the world, LASERS AND FAST AND SHIT also have what Tiny Grooves described as “one hell of a propulsive fiery art damaged punk sound. Mix in the brash angular punk of LES SAVY FAV, the garage thump of the MISTREATERS, the hardcore thrash of DOUBLE DAGGER and the noise riffing of DRIVE LIKE JEHU... and maybe throw in some BIG BLACK, NATION OF ULYSSES and JESUS LIZARD for good measure..... what you get is some of the most engaging hardcore tinged punk rock that doesn't follow those boring old formulas." Featuring current and former members of BLOODIEST, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, and SHAPERS, LASERS previously cranked out a self-released 7" and a cassette EP for Hewhocorrupts, Inc.. With Third: Munch, the fog/lights/noise whirlwind that is LASERS AND FAST AND SHIT is finally unleashing their first full length LP. Recorded by Mike Lust at Kingsize Studios and mastered by Erik Rasmussen, the first pressing is limited to just 200 copies on red vinyl with silk-screened polybags and full color sleeves. LASERS will be playing a series of FREE shows this weekend to celebrate this release. They'll be playing at Record Breakers (Reggie's) in Chicago on Saturday, April 18th at 11 AM as part of Record Store Day. And if that's not enough for you, they're also playing that same day at the Reckless Records on Milwaukee Ave. at 2 PM. And if THAT isn't enough, they are playing a FREE record release show on 4/20 at the Empty Bottle with FAKE LIMBS and VELOCICOPTER. For now, starting Saturday you'll be able to get the record exclusive at Record Breakers and Reckless. You can also order it direct from us or pick up a copy from the band at the Empty Bottle on Monday. Order and stream a few of the tracks NOW at Forge Again Records Bandcamp page. Here's a sneak peak of the LP and my cat for good measure.
  9. In honor of Fordirelifesake deciding to "reunite" at this year's Black Christmas celebration at the Majestic Theater complex in Detroit (see: https://www.facebook.com/events/388221721333951/?ref=22for details), they are not only releasing 3 BRAND NEW SONGS they just recorded, but we're also going to repress both their most recent (2004) full length Dance.Pretend.Forget.Defend and their discography A Daydream Disaster. We're hoping the records will be done in time for the show, but worst case they'll be shipping shortly after the 1st of the year. Both records will be limited to 100 copies and will once again feature beautiful silk-screened jackets and colored vinyl. We tweaked the color scheme a bit for both. Check em out below. If you want to order one of these fine items, please visit http://forgeagainrecords.com/fdls2015.phpto order one or both. Shipping is included in these prices. And did we mention that if you order either or both records you'll get a FREE download of those 3 new tracks as soon as they're available? Methinks this is a no-brainer. For those unfamiliar with Fordirelifesake, simply click the links below to stream these records. They called it quits in the mid-00s but have popped up again here and there for a few reunions and are apparently even recording some new stuff. Members went on to play in bands like Boys Night Out, The Suicide Machines, Hellmouth, Isles and Glaciers, The Receiving End Of Sirens, Rebel Spies, and the A-Gang. And they played in Mycomplex, Bottomed Out, Rescue, etc. etc. Stream it: https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/dance-pretend-forget-defend Stream it: https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/a-daydream-disaster
  10. For anybody into dumb limited releases that are cool but don't sound great (aka people who buy lathes), check out these ones that we just cooked up over at Forge Again Records. Stream/buy them both NOW at http://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com PINK GUYS - 2343 10" clear lathe - 12 songs, 19 minutes of pop punk goodness. limited to 27 copies with full color foldover sleeves, full lyrics and chords on the inside so you can play along. Includes nice high quality stereo download to go with your mono mosher hunk of plastic. Gotta take a better picture of this, but just imagine a 10" record on clear vinyl with full color labels that look like the cover. PINK GUYS "GIMME SELTZER" B/W" "HOLD THE TONIC" 5" clear square lathe - 2 songs, our hit single "Gimme Seltzer" on the A-side with a sneak peek at our next album 1471 with "Hold the Tonic" on the B-side. This comes in hand-made seltzer box packaging (we drank the seltzer at practice, and then some. Let's just say we could have pressed more than 26 of these). This guy is FREE if you see us in person or included for free if you buy the 10". Download is free too!
  11. Milwaukee's VOLUNTEER harks back to the days when music could be heavy without being "metal"; when power came from the intensity with which a band's members played, not from volume, effects, or theatrics. VOLUNTEER's new 4 song 10" Goner perfectly encapsulates their ethos - brutal riffs hammered out with a directness that defies classification or easy comparisons. But hey, if you want to try, think Unsane, The Melvins, Young Widows, Helmet, The Jesus Lizard, etc. Goner is a 4-song 10" on red/black OR pure black vinyl pressed in the US by United Record Pressing. Hand screen-printed cover. Includes digital download card. Only 200 red/black copies and 100 black copies were pressed. Stream the whole thing now! And hey, there's a Jawbreaker cover on here, ya know. https://forgeagainrecords.bandcamp.com/album/goner
  12. Figured this was probably worth sharing if so. With the emo revival in full swing people gotta be getting down on this stuff again. Just uploaded this video of short, but complete sets from Rescue and Grayson from the 2002 tour we did for our split 7".
  13. Recorded and produced by the man himself Mike Lust at Phantom Manor over the course of the late 00s and mastered by Carl Saff. Includes a high quality download as well.
