  1. PO on Merge Records - Standard LP / Deluxe 2 LP / 2 LP + CD + Postcards, out July 14th: https://www.mergerecords.com/out-in-the-storm Out in the Storm, Katie Crutchfield’s fourth album as Waxahatchee and the follow-up to her Merge debut Ivy Tripp, is the blazing result of a woman reawakened. Her most autobiographical and honest album to date, Out in the Storm is a self-reflective anchor in the story of both her songwriting and her life. The album was tracked at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia with John Agnello, a producer, recording engineer, and mixer known for working with some of the most iconic musicians of the last 25 years, including Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. Agnello and Crutchfield worked together for most of December 2016, along with the band: sister Allison Crutchfield on keyboards and percussion, Katherine Simonetti on bass, and Ashley Arnwine on drums; Katie Harkin, touring guitarist with Sleater-Kinney, also contributed lead guitar. At Agnello’s suggestion, the group recorded most of the music live to enhance their unity in a way that gives the album a fuller sound compared to past releases, resulting in one of Waxahatchee’s most guitar-driven releases to date. * * * CD - 12-page booklet with full lyrics and photos - uncoated stock digipak with silver foil details LP (Standard) - album on black vinyl - 12" × 24" poster insert with a portrait of Katie Crutchfield on one side and full lyrics on the other - uncoated stock jacket with silver foil details - full download Deluxe 2-LP (Limited edition) - album on black vinyl - exclusive bonus LP of demo versions of the entire album on cloud white vinyl - 12" × 24" poster of Katie Crutchfield - gatefold jacket with full lyrics and silver foil details - full download of album and demo versions 2-LP + CD + Postcards (all items will ship together to arrive on or around July 14 release date) - CD and deluxe 2-LP formats as detailed above - set of six postcards featuring exclusive photos and album lyrics selected by Katie TRACK/SONG TITLE ARTIST DURATION Never Been Wrong Waxahatchee 3:12 8 Ball Waxahatchee 2:49 Silver Waxahatchee 3:24 Recite Remorse Waxahatchee 4:38 Sparks Fly Waxahatchee 3:06 Brass Beam Waxahatchee 2:42 Hear You Waxahatchee 3:01 A Little More Waxahatchee 2:32 No Question Waxahatchee 3:38 Fade Waxahatchee 3:47

  5. Pre-order on standard black or white vinyl here. On Room Inside the World—Ought’s third album and their first for Merge—growing up doesn’t mean mellowing out so much as it means learning to pay attention, listening carefully and openly, staying somewhere long enough to really understand where you are. Recorded at Rare Book Room in Brooklyn with producer Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, Animal Collective, Silver Jews), Room Inside the World explores themes that have always concerned the band—identity, connection, survival in a precarious world—but with a bolder, more nuanced sound palette. Vibraphone, justly intonated synthesizers, drum machines, and a 70-piece choir suffuse the precise post-punk breakdowns that spangled Ought’s first two albums, giving rise to an emotional complexity that pushes their characteristically taut sound to greater depths. https://www.youtube.com/embed/8I5PTIyAQrM

  7. Coco Hames Coco Hames Merge Records is delighted to announce that COCO HAMES, the frontwoman and indomitable force behind beloved garage-pop combo The Ettes, will release her self-titled solo debut on Merge Records at the end of March. Listen to the ardent ballad “I Do Love You” which premiered at American Songwriter. It showcases Hames’ considerable vocal prowess while conveying the intensity of new love. Pre-order Coco Hames now on CD and LP in the Merge store or digitally here. The first 250 LP orders in our store will receive limited-edition opaque green vinyl. All pre-orders will include a button, while supplies last, and will ship to arrive on or around the release date of March 31. --- There’s an old saying about how “you have your whole life to write your first record.” For Coco Hames, the songs on her stunning self-titled debut poured from her pen over a sustained burst of inspiration…but they took more than a decade to live out. A deeply personal record filled with poignant ruminations on love lost and found, dreams dashed then rediscovered, these ten songs manage to pinpoint exquisite light amid life’s darkness. As the frontwoman and indomitable force behind beloved garage-pop combo The Ettes, Hames blazed a memorable trail across the ’00s underground. Last summer, she began work on her solo album at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville. “It was this massive leap of faith for me,” she admits. “After being in a band for so long, this time I was on my own—no gang to hide behind or fall back on.” Hames co-produced the record with Andrija Tokic, who’d helped sire career-making albums for Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and others. Playing guitar, piano, and electric harpsichord, Hames was aided in her effort by bassist Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs), drummer Julian Dorio (The Whigs), and lead guitarist Adam Meisterhans (The Weight). Other contributors include veteran keyboard/organ wizard Dave Amels of Reigning Sound and vocalists Carey Kotsionis (Bobby Bare, Jr.) and Lillie Mae Rische (Jack White). “I grew up listening to ’60s pop like Dusty Springfield, but also classic country music, like Patsy Cline, and things that bridged both worlds, like Bobbie Gentry,” notes Hames. “With this record, the end result doesn’t fit into any one category. Which is an exciting thing to me.” The first 250 LP orders will receive limited edition opaque green vinyl. Preorders will include two buttons while supplies last, and will ship to arrive on or around the release date of March 31.
  8. https://www.mergerecords.com/teenage-fanclub-here The wait is over! On September 9, Teenage Fanclub return with Here, the band’s first album in six years. As ever, song-wise the Fanclub present a textbook representation of democracy in action, the record offering four each by Norman Blake, Gerard Love, and Raymond McGinley. From the almighty chime of opener “I’m In Love” through the ecstatic soul-search of “The First Sight” and the paean to unerring friendship “With You,” Here is a collection of twelve songs about the only things that truly matter: life and love. As is befitting of a record that took its time to arrive, Here uses reflective space to dazzling effect. “Steady State,” with its gorgeous ebb and flow, has echoes of The Notorious Byrd Brothers’ astral jangle, while “I Was Beautiful When I Was Alive” unexpectedly curves off from dreamlike beginnings into a semi-acoustic/motorik outro, sonically replacing the steady beat of the German autobahn with the vast open skies of the Pacific Coast Highway. Not for one second is Here the sound of procrastination or headscratching. It’s the effortless work of a band entirely confident in their own craft—the consolidation of nearly three decades of peerless songwriting and almost telepathic musicianship. Here is a record that embraces maturity and experience and hugs them close. Buttons included with all preorders while supplies last. The first 250 LP preorders will receive clear vinyl!
