PO Soon: Antemasque Self-Titled S/T (Mars Volta + Flea) October 2014

Recommended Posts

Revealed earlier today via short cryptic videos; producer Omar Rodriguez-Lopez has teamed up with long time collaborator Cedric Bixler-Zavala (both men of Mars Volta and At The Drive In fame) on a new project with former Mars Volta drummer Dave Elitch and the legendary Flea on bass. The new band, ANTEMASQUE, has been hunkered down in the studio and Volcom is proud to be able to present a longer look behind-the-scenes of the band recording their debut song, "4AM".

Follow ANTEMASQUE on Twitter for an announcement soon regarding the official release of "4AM".

This sounds like a step (way) back songwriting wise. Maybe it's just a casual project. Omar seems pretty into that style of band. Disappointing as I was happy to see that Cedric and Omar are working together aging, but this one is not for me.

I, unfortunately, might have to agree. I'll check out more of it, but so far it hasn't really been my style. Which is too bad, because I was pretty excited when I first read the news on this. Oh well.

There should be some tasty TMV information coming out today, but here is what we know so far: *Subject to change*

- People who bought all three ANTEMASQUE tracks get the whole album when it's released which should be out by the end of summer.

- New mixes of Tremulant, Deloused, and Le Butcherettes should be released this week.

- The new label Nadie Sound will periodically release random shit from their "vault". They are going through hard drives looking for stuff to release.

- first 250 people who bought all three ante tracks will possibly get signed copies of Tremulant and Deloused? Not sure how this will work, but more details to come hopefully.

After being rather disappointed at first. I have really been enjoying the songs. It sounds to me like a very stripped down ATDI, or like if ATDI was a DC band from the mid to late nineties. There are still some parts I like less than others in the songs, but overall I'm really liking them.

I will say, however, that I LOVE the Zepplin-esque Drown All Your Witches, and think it's easily the best of the bunch. It really is great and the bridge is a very moving musical moment.
