tides
I'd like to get a list going of albums with excellent production/mastering that sound great on a hi-fi system...Recordings that showcase detail, separation, dynamics, etc. For example:Wilco - Yankee Hotel FoxtrotThe Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink RobotsNils Frahm - SpacesTycho - DiveEfterklang - PiramidaFrom searching the web, it seems like most lists are full of older classic rock, jazz, and classical stuff but I'm mostly interested in more recent albums (within the past 25 years or so). What are some of your favorites/recommendations? Shelby
The Appleseed Cast - Illumination Ritual sounds like someone traded their soul for perfect mastering. Edit: I thought you were talking about vinyl, my post still stands but it was mostly thinking from that perspective.

jdtg
Was coming in to say any Weezer from Mofi or any of their releases but they don't really fit the criteria mostly interested in more modern albums.
tides
Was coming in to say any Weezer from Mofi or any of their releases but they don't really fit the criteria This works. Sorry for the criteria, I guess I just didn't want to see stuff like "Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon" or "Miles Davis - Kind of Blue". I'll allow anything within the past 20 years or so. topher
In Rainbows is pretty fantastic-sounding. As are most Radiohead albums. You should really expand your list to include older stuff, though. My Bloody Valentine's Loveless and Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream both had huge production budgets, and sound great. You sound like you might already know those, though. Anyway, good luck. Shelby
Loveless was just remastered by Kevin so I think that will still fit. As for Radiohead, I think Amnesiac has the best mastering.

Those are some great recommendations that I forgot about. Thanks a lot for your contribution.
Team Avatar
i'm no audiophile ( legally deaf, so my hearing aids don't make shit sound as it should ), but I love the quality of Random Access Memories -Daft Punk, and The Poison by Bullet For My Valentine is remarkably well done. RAM is probably one of the best productions ever. I don't like the music, but damn it's sooo clean.
Liimpan
Also American Football self titled is amazing. Got completely blown away by the vinyl version of it, everything is crystal clear
eight1echo
Natalie Merchant - Tigerlily
rtw88
Autolux - Future Perfect. Youtube is obviously not ideal but if you've never heard the album, it's tasty. eight1echo
mrewest
The new Tides of Man sounds flawless to me. Can't wait to spin that to see if the vinyl does it justice. Cloudkicker - Subsume is one of the most perfect sounding records I've heard. A Great Big Pile of Leaves - Prefrontal... also qualifies as perfect on vinyl. tides
Thanks everyone...a lot of awesome albums here and some I haven't heard yet. Please keep them coming. It doesn't necessarily have to be a great sounding vinyl, just any recording in general.
eight1echo
Autolux - Future Perfect. Youtube is obviously not ideal but if you've never heard the album, it's tasty. Good call on a related note: Failure - Fantastic Planet
topher
As for Radiohead, I think Amnesiac has the best mastering. Really? I guess I'll have to listen to it again. Strange that it would have the best production since it was recorded simultaneously with Kid A.
Shelby
Really? I guess I'll have to listen to it again. Strange that it would have the best production since it was recorded simultaneously with Kid A. Kid A is great too production wise and yeah they were recorded at the same time, but Amnesiac is a far more organic record and I feel the production fits its tone better. tides
I'll add a couple more... The Helio Sequence - Negotiations Ride - Going Blank Again Anyone have any recommendations that are less "noisy"?
8ight
Just about any album that Kurt Ballou has touched... Liimpan
