sinatra.45
Ordered splatter & luckily got it. A buddy of mine also got mixed up & got black.
andi
Fingers crossed that I'm getting my splatter. Sorry for those, that didn't get it. Anyone reached someone at merchtable and got an answer what they intend to do?

fidelio
Got a reply from Merchtable, they'll be sending the splat and I'll be returning the black. Whew.

Kurazz
Drumming is way too fucking badass. Was there. Can never get enough of Aaron. Best part is I got to see Old Man Gloom and Sumac within two weeks of each other on my way to and back from Seattle. Can't wait to catch Sumac and Mamiffer at Sled Island this month. Gumbo72203
I feel like I would like this group a lot more with another guitarist, or if they had a keyboard player. The trio format usually just sounds so bare to me. That drummer is a monster though, wow

I think Oxbow and Lightning Bolt are both playing Sled Island as well, and probably some other good bands who've slipped my mind. I don't think Canada's ever gotten a music fest with that many good legit bands. Usually it's all crappy alt radio rock stuff gathered together in one place. davepriz
Yeah I really wanted to go to sled island but all together it was just too much money
GhostTrail
Apparently they're already working on their second album. Definitely excited. codeine

I'm glad it wasn't a one off thing, didn't expect more so soon though. codeine
Neanderthal
The trio format usually just sounds so bare to me. That ain't a mistake buddy. There's an interview, forgot which one, where Aaron talks about not only wanting to make more than a single album, as well as the concept sonically. I'll see if I can find it really quick. Neanderthal
Don't have time to read through, but I am almost positive it's this one: http://geargods.net/features/sumac/

Cool, I'll check that out. I'm just so used to the lush sonic background of Isis with his singing.... Sumac sounds so empty, like the music is unfinished or missing additional instrumentation. By the way.... I need to share something with you guys if you like this music: North - What You Were http://galacticdads.bandcamp.com/album/what-you-were Holy. Fucking. Shit. I just got the vinyl in the mail yesterday and spun it today.... unreal music. Please check it out, these guys are unbelievable. It totally satiated the Isis fix I've been jonesing for. Just powerful, heavy, artful melodic brutality.

jhulud
Late into posting as well. Received a black copy when I ordered the red/black splatter. MerchTable got back to me pretty quickly in sending out a replacement and a label to send the black back to them.

daegor
Mine arrive today, right variant! Someone who has both (and a good system/ear) should do a cross comparison.

Does the coloring really make that much of a difference in how it sounds? The only thing I've noticed with myself is that the clear records I have, are some of my favorite-sounding ones. I don't know if that's the result of a good initial mastering and the recording, but things like Deafheaven's "Roads to Judah" and Caspian "You Are The Conductor" just SLAY in how good they sound. ^Dude's not lying. It can, but doesn't necessarily make much difference. I prefer straight up black records, because they are less prone to imperfections. Also, I listened to my copy of Roads to Judah just a couple of days ago, and thought it sounded pretty crummy (transparent red).

I've got the 3rd press clear that is still available, and man... if you like the album, you should pick it up. I LOVE how good the drums sound on that album, especially the ride cymbal. The mix is just perfect. Sunbather is slightly better, in production and source material, but man... i love my Roads To Judah copy haha
throwgncpr
I'll have to look into a different press. I love the record, but was really disappointed with the audio quality on my red copy. on topic: I have the first press (black) of this SUMAC record, and it sounds great. daegor
Yeah, no, not the colour. Aaron pulled the plug on the first press (it was supposed to be bigger) because he wasn't happy with the sound. I was wondering if there was a discernible difference. He did say he was being super nitpicky about it. The black/red sounds flawless by the way!
