codeine Posted September 27, 2014 Share Posted September 27, 2014 A buddy of mine vacationed on one of the less populated Hawaiian islands. He knew someone who lived there and stayed for a little while, an extended vacation I guess. He said it was really cool, I think he said there were cats on the island who just lived there, like not feral, but no owners. And chickens too, but not a lot of people. That's just that one island though. He said he liked it a lot cause it was super chill and not touristy at all, so he got a more 'pure' experience' I guess. And there's volcanoes there. Pretty sure the archipelago is all formed on volcanoes. So if you like 'canoes, there's those.Saw an episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain recently where he went to Hawai'i. He liked the food. He seems to like the food everywhere he does though, cause people serve him up awesome dishes. Lucky guy. He said he was expecting lots of sweet but a lot of it is actually savory, and salty. They love SPAM there apparently, it's crazy. During wartime the population ate what the soldiers ate because they didn't have food coming in, and I guess it just kinda stuck with them. Bourdain ate a bunch of different recipes that use spam and he actually liked them. But they had a lot of other good looking food that didn't contain spam too.There's a lot of varied ancestry there due to it's history, population being primarily of asian descent (Filipino, Japanese, Chinese, Korean) then caucasian, then indigenous and pacific islanders, with a small percentage of other races, and a significant percentage of people of mixed race.There's probably cool things to do there like check out 'canoes, or go snorkeling and check out some fishies.
