I strongly recommend Anthony Bourdain - Les Halles cookbook. techniques and strategies in classic bistro cooking. He explains there's no wrong way or right way to do as long as you're having a beer or margarita and having a good time whilst cooking. He's a legend! He loves his Deadboys, Ramones, Dickies, Stooges... An old school punk rocker from NYC!

The Art of Simple Food by Alice Waters seems like a good read. It's a perfect beginners cookbook and a good way for experienced cooks to revisit the basics.

I also have Gordon Ramsay's Home Cooking because Gordon Ramsay. Ha.

I've been meaning to pick up a few more but I'm focusing on specific foods now. The Complete Chile Pepper Book by Dave D and Tea by Kevin G are on the priority list right now.

I've been seriously considering The Drunken Botanist. With background in horticulture, I think that book would be entertaining.
