The Original Cassette Collective Thread

Recommended Posts

I picked up this at a show a This Will Destroy You show last week.  The merch guy runs the tape label and was selling a few releases.

Ssleeperhold : Ruluth : http://holodeckrecords.bandcamp.com/album/ruleth-hd021

RIYL : dark 80s instrumental synth, John Carpenter soundtracks.  It received a vinyl pressing too, but this type of music just feels right on a cassette.

Got the 14 tapes I ordered from the Ascetic House January Program today. Stoked to give them a listen!

For fans of the label, I highly recommend the Kama Rupa tape that came out about a month ago. As far as I know, it was only available at one show, and then from Mount Analog. Really good tape!

Constellation Testu just put their spring batch up.  3 cassettes for $13PPD.  There are links to stream each one on the order page. : http://www.ctatsu.com/spring-batch/

I'm not familiar enough with the label to speculate on what's on these, the winter batch contained a couple instrumental synth albums and an ambient piano one (lazy descriptions).  I liked them all quite a bit and plan on ordering these three on pay day.

Same theme! And yes 3 cassettes for 13ppd is gold.

Also guys don't forget you can mix and match your own batches for 15ppd!

So for anyone trying to catch up with this label it shouldn't be a problem. My recommendations are, Floating Gardens, Sawi Lieu, Grapefruit for starters... I pretty much just batched up all the cassettes that have enough length to them then I gave them a sound check. Some of them only have 2 tracks and I'm not sure about the duration of the tracks...

Dream has the Haunted Hearts cassette for sale, limited to 100.  It's a tad pricey sadly : http://dreamlabel.tumblr.com/shop.html

Many years dreamt, one cold winter realized, Haunted Hearts is Dee Dee Penny (Dum Dum Girls) and Brandon Welchez (Crocodiles). It is not the melding of two bands; it is a true collaboration.

The duo’s first full-length album, entitled Initiation, was written in the winter of 2012, holed up in their apartment, surrounded by a lot of books, Motown and krautrock. It was recorded by Jon Greene at Electric Orange Studios in San Diego, mixed by Jorge Elbrecht (Ariel Pink / Violens) at Static Recording in Brooklyn, and mastered by Joe La Porta at Sterling Sound in New York City.

Edit : This is getting a vinyl release too.

My band just posted some comics and tapes left from our release show, we only have 3 tapes left that contain every song we have ever recorded, including two new songs. Check out our music, download it for free, and pick up a tape if you dig it. All hand-made and hand-dubbed by us, they sound great. http://boytoyrox.bandcamp.com/merch/
