The Vinyl Deals Thread (non-Amazon)

Recommended Posts

I didn't order an MBV foUromO, but the records I order came doubled boxed, and in perfect condition. It was a large cardboard box, then inside a record mailer with those airbag things amazon uses packed around it. Can't complain.

That's because UO didn't damage the MBV records; MBV did.

The copy of MBV I got was in fantastic shape. Must've been good karma for only ordering one copy. If you need to flip 4 extra copies to justify buying a $10 record then you should probably get out of the game.

I bought a $25 record for myself (which was also in shit shape), not MBV. After selling fees, I didn't intend (or expect) to make more than that. And I don't feel bad for that.

On a board full of people who flip short-run records like it's going out of style, I'm the one who's getting vilified?

I don't consider you a villain, just thought you were having trouble affording a $10 sale record.

Well labels do them to promote albums so I am not sure if there is a list but I've seen a bunch, only one I've bought is a Tweedy one. Basically they are giving you a bonus 7" if you buy the $25 Lp.

That 7" was available before the album was and there was a coupon for a discount on the full album when it came out.

I remember seeing CD singles having that deal, back when CD singles were things people bought. Cool they're doing that with 7"s now, I'd never seen that before.

And Cannonfunk, I buy cheap records to flip all the time but I don't post on VC when it backfires. If there's one thing to know about VC it's that the people here are not kind to flippers, so if you're gonna do that (and I'm not saying you shouldn't) just keep it off the boards.

I'm a bit hesitant to post this, but maybe someone will have better luck/be interested (I'll explain below).

Mammoth Cave Recording is going out of business and pretty much everything is marked down pretty low: http://mammothcaverecording.com/store/music. here's the email I got:

So I guess that sucks a bit. I totally agree with points 2 & 3, the low dollar is fucking us in Canada (no matter how many people claim it is good for "us") and Canada Post has been fucking us on postage for a long time now. Ordering records in Canada sucks. Looking at the store, not "everything" is on sale, but most of it is.

Now here's why I was considering not posting: I tried ordering from them before, nothing shipped, they wouldn't reply to emails or paypal messages, and it took a last minute paypal dispute for paypal to give my money back, no response from Mammoth. I don't know what happened, but a few months after that they started sending out pretty regular update emails so maybe something has changed.

Given the prices, it might be worth the gamble again. I rally want that Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet LP and I'm not going to find it for $6 anywhere else.

So I just got my order in. I ordered 7 LPs (and even though I live a 5 minute drive from where they shipped it, shipping was $25...), and I received 6 - two were oversold and they replaced one of them (with a record I actually wanted - Needles//Pins - 12:34).

But I have an ethical question for y'all: I paid for 7 LPs, as cheap as they might have been, I received one less record than I paid for, which would have been $5 + an extra $3 for shipping. Knowing that this record label is folding, is it worth asking/arguing for that money back? Is that too petty or worth arguing?
