am I the only person who doesn't trust that dude?

he usually prices stuff as if they're NM when they're not.

You might be. I shop there all the time and never have a problem. I saw the record/jacket and it's definitely a really nice copy. I think the prices at Grouch are much better than Academy or Captured Tracks.

you're probably right.

I just bought a Bleed American from him once and forgot to check out the LPS till I walked out and one had a huge huge scratch on it.  and he was charging NM prices

on it.

but maybe it was just that time that left a bad taste in my mouth.

glad someone finds good stuff in there.

And another SKM/Jesu album that nobody is looking forward to next June:  http://www.sunkilmoon.com/hesbad/

I wish they'd go the Clams Casino route and release the instrumentals along with the regular album.

That new track from it is ungodly awful....what the hell kind of effort does it require to write lyrics like "Blah blah blah blah...". So disappointed again

I don't carry the same level of distaste for newer Kozelek stuff that some people do, but that track is terrible. Why would you write a song ranting about how you're glad that Michael Jackson is dead? This is the same guy who included the fact that he wouldn't talk about a guy who gunned innocent people down in a church because he looked like a boy and not a man.

What has happened to this man?

I don't mind that Ohio song though.  But I live here so I'm biased.

I really must admit I liked God Bless Ohio better than any of the other rambling style songs he's put out recently, but this new one is just such trash and a really tasteless attack based on a conversation he had.... He should either write real songs again or just quit, simple as that.

ditto

I love JKB, but I really cannot stand Mark's vocals/lyrics

You're under no obligation to listen to any material he releases.  I haven't had time to listen to the new song, but I think that his last couple albums have been just as interesting as what he was releasing in the early SKM days.  His style has changed and perhaps he should have picked a different moniker to release the new material under.  Seems that some people have an easier time dealing with a large shift when it's under a different name.  Overall though, he's writing songs for himself at this point and I think we're lucky that he chooses to release them at all.  I'm glad he's challenging himself and the listeners.  It doesn't always work, but at least it's not the same release over and over again.  He's not going to be writing another April and people just need to accept that.

100% agree. hit the nail on the head.

also, to pretend you understand his barometer for 'effort', or anyone's, is insane. that's a real tired (& effortless?) assumption about his new stuff. besides, what does effort have to do with anything? who gives a shit if the song took a minute or a year to write, what's the difference?
