marc32137
I dug this one more than the others. Still not too excited about the album, though.
mrewest
Complete opposite thoughts than the guy above lol. Least favorite song of all the new ones so far, but still solid. And I'm still dying to hear the rest of the album. Really can't wait for the studio Reapers.
YouTwo
It has all the elements of a good Muse song. The piano, the synth. It's just not quite there though.
mrewest
There are some early reviews floating around out there & it seems like the consensus is "some great moments, some that fall flat". So pretty much every Muse album in a nutshell lol. Apparently the title track is acapella. Interesting. Can't wait to hear "The Globalist". rynflnnry
this new stuff is on Banksy levels of fake deep and it's hilarious AWasteOfATime

YouTwo
It's definitely the best one musically from the new album. But it just seems like there's no effort to the lyrics of any of the new ones.
mrewest
I freaking love Reapers. My fav so far. I've grown to not expect much lyrically from Muse, so that aspect doesn't bother me anymore. As long as the songs sound great & they're fun to sing along to, I'm set. I love all 4 songs thus far. I especially love how they flow together considering they are the first four on the album. itsgoodtobefree
It's "out there" now. It's alright. The Globalist is pretty disappointing.

hyperg1ant
Official Lyric video for "Reapers" when I heard that drum intro, I thought I was listening to "The Most Beautiful Bitter Fruit" by La Dispute
mrewest
Hahaha I thought that too ^^ I'm holding out on anything after Reapers until I get my vinyl. The whackos over at the Muse message boards seem to be less than thrilled after The Handler. But, my brother who sees eye to eye with me about most music says he loved it. mrewest
Got my red deluxe yesterday. Overall I love the album & think it's their best since Absolution. Only song I'm having trouble with thus far is Aftermath. Sexy as hell beginning, but the rest sounds like some cheesy church song. And I love the poppy Revolt. Very fun song imo. The Globalist has the meanest riff in Muse's history, but it ends way too prematurely. But after that wears off I actually love the piano ending into Drones. bungie
OU818
Man does this album suck. Its like U2 with nonstop falsetto. How they can play Mercy and Dead Inside in the same set as Cydonia or Stockholm without cringing I'll never know.
mrewest
But...Reapers, The Handler & The Globalist tho. Not a fan of at least those?
OU818
I wish I could like Reapers, but the hard autotune and the chorus kill it. The whole "i just read 1984 for the first time" aspect of the album is also a huge drag. I'll still go when they tour though. Always a fun time castaway
itsgoodtobefree
Yeah the production kinda sucks. The autotune is brutal on this album. castaway
castaway
The whole "i just read 1984 for the first time" aspect of the album is also a huge drag. Yeah I'm digging the latter half of the album so far cause I'm paying no attention whatsoever to the lyrics but it pains me to have to skip the stupid drill sergeant thing every time I listen. problemchild
Speaking as someone who regards Muse's first 4 full-lengths as 4 of the greatest records of all time (as well as some awesome EP material) and who at least enjoyed their last two records, I find Drones to be pretty terrible. There were only a few moments where I was momentarily drawn to a riff or something, but was always turned off by some cheesy sample or synth clip seconds later. It really feels like they don't care anymore, which really sucks. Oh well, I'll just go watch Hullabaloo for the millionth time.

So much energy without all the big fancy stadium production.
problemchild
Yes! Hullabaloo is by far my favorite live recording in general. You get this feeling throughout the show that Matthew is some mad scientist musician or something (the hair helps), and every single moment is just perfect. I'm still as much in awe by that performance as I was when I first saw it.
itsgoodtobefree
Hullabaloo needs to be reissued on vinyl, along with a complete b-sides collection.
mrewest
Hullabaloo needs to be reissued on vinyl, along with a complete b-sides collection. Yes yes yes yes. The live recordings from this are some of my favorite things ever to listen to. The DVD is hard to watch without getting a migrane. Back to "Drones", I guess I try & not to compare them to old Muse anymore & it helps me like/appreciate the newer stuff more.
