adamha21
Coming from a guy who loves ITTCT and collects all their variants anyway....you aren't getting Red Forest for superior sonics because it pretty much sounds like shit on vinyl. It's just very dull and doesn't have much life to it...and some variants can be very noisy. Digital definitely sounds better sonically. I'm at a point now with my setup, that it's become so transparent. A great recording and press will sound unreal. Shitty recording or press, there is no reason that vinyl is better and I'll take digital any day. This seems to be a bigger problem with Red Forest than the Trees' other albums. Honestly, I think this is true of most of what comes out of Pirates Press nowadays. I haven't been impressed with much of anything Mylene Sheath or SoS (as far as sound, not packaging or service) have put out in a long time. adamha21
I do...most of the variants. That's one of the better pressings, but some of the variants are absolutely terrible. Awful noise/clicks/pops.

I have the black (which is flawless) & the swirl variant which I thought sounded good too. I just wish more stuff was pressed at 45RPM like that one. Funny you should mention that, because I've always felt the same way almost. My 1st press Red Forest translucent red sounds great, but when I got the 3rd press black/clear swirl, I was like "what the? this sounds... choked off, almost." It was like the dynamics didn't have any room to breathe, in a way. It sounded squished, sort of. But on CD and my computer, it sounds amazing. You want to talk about amazing-sounding vinyl? Any Isis record, and "You Are The Conductor" by Caspian.
adamha21
I just played my splatter copy this AM and I can confirm it sounds excellent. I haven't cleaned it yet, but pretty quiet and man is the bass deep.

The Butcha
Glad I got lucky with a good sounding copy as well. My highlighter yellow copy was garbage. Luckily I unloaded it for the same price I paid for it.
