donlombardo
I'm looking for albums or EPs that are only acoustic guitar and a man or woman singing. The occasional other instrument is ok. Examples: Denison Witmer - Safe Away (and his debut cassette) Paul Simon - The Paul Simon Songbook José Gonzalez - Veneer This guy A plus is if they are easy to find in dollar bins. Another plus is if they have free records on bandcamp. Thank you.

onwardempire
Agree with everything in this thread, particularly Nick Drake and Owen, personal favourites. John Martyn should be in the list also. If you happen to be really open minded and want to relive past days filled with teenage angst and insecurities, 'The Swiss Army Romance' by Dashboard Confessional is bang on the money in my book. This is a great suggestion. Still holds up, IMO. That said, it HIGHLY UNLIKELY you'll find it in the dollar bin. onwardempire

Hahah my bad, I only just noticed the dollar bin suggestion part of the OPs post. Yeah, might struggle getting a bargain on this one
NapalmBrain
How about Mirah? Her first album is pretty minimalistic in terms of instruments. Won't find it in the $1 bin, but she has a small fanbase so most of her stuff can be found for a good price. Outside of big names Joni Mitchell and Cat Stevens I don't have many $1 bin suggestions
