Easily one of the worst, if not the worst sounding records i own. Such a shame, great tunes too. I've had a vastly different experience with my copy. It's way superior to the CD/files. Gave the record a clean, still sounds shit. Finally got around to listening to my Purple (marbled? looks marbled but the sticker just said purple) copy and mine sounds like a pile of turds too. Some nice scraping sounds at the beginning of "Morningstar" that thankfully fade away. Skips on "Chlorine and Wine" on the other side. Also thought it might be a stylus issue, funny enough, also put on Nick Cave (Boatman's Call here) and it's fine. Tried it on my other setup upstairs (both are Technics), didn't have the skipping issue on Side 2 but still got the scrapes/pops on Side 1 and overall sounds crummy. Why do I still bother again? An album track and a demo or live recording (of that album track) on the B-Side doesn't scream must have, especially for that price point.
