Sidney Crosley
I mostly bring a messenger bag with my laptop and a bit of paperwork around for work, but mine is just totally done, so I'm looking for something new. Anyone have one they really like? Some preferences: -under $100 -possibly orderable/available in canada -doesn't need to be leather -don't care about colour -fits a 13 inch laptop -shoulder strap rather than just a handle

IanRees
I like Dickies, have had the same one for over 6 years, still in great condition. Think it was like $30 http://www.amazon.com/Dickies-Postal-Messenger-Black-Size/dp/B00CTIY6KG/ref=sr_1_1?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1441821962&sr=1-1&nodeID=15743231&refinements=p_4%3ADickies Sidney Crosley
billya
My mother and father got me this as a gift when I got my first professional job. It fits everything that I need it to, and I think that it looks pretty nice. http://www.amazon.com/Visconti-Leather-Distressed-Messenger-Collection/dp/B013IXP68Q Sidney Crosley

lexicondevil
In the past I would have to buy a new messenger back every one to two years. It was frustrating and a waste of money. I finally kicked down for a Chrome bag http://www.chromeindustries.com/us/en/bags/messenger-bags/citizen-messenger-bag I will most likely never have to buy a bag again. RitaaatheKitty
I recommend the bag of holding from Think Geek, it is actually on sale right now for $40 which is a steal. It can handle up to a 17" laptop. http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/aaa5/
3arl
Another vote for Timbuk2. I think mine is their medium sized one and it's great
paynegretzky
Keep these coming! I went to look for one all over town today but there isn't much in between really cheap ones and fossil... I'm not trying to assault my wallet here so if you have any more gems, let me know. Also, unitedbyblue looks good so far
Korgull Of Morgoth
Look if you can find any Freitag bag for that price tag. Stuff is expensive but will last you forever.
Sidney Crosley
This was definitely helpful. The messenger bag at United by Blue is really sweet looking - and pretty reasonably priced. I realized that maybe black leather is just not my thing, and that's all I was seeing at a lot of department stores. There's a Timbuk2 store in Toronto that I think I'll check out. They look really practical and durable. My wife suggested that I should make sure it looks professional - I'm a teacher but I'm working as a special education consultant, so I go school to school and I know that first impressions are important. passionbrand
Tardcore
I have a 5.11 Tactical Rush 24 backpack that is 9 kinds of indestructible. 5.11 mostly makes stuff for loony preppers and military types, but it's all extremely well constructed and reasonably priced. They have several messenger bags, I think this one matches your description most closely: http://www.511tactical.com/rush-delivery-mike.html
