Maroon 5 - Songs About Jane (Reissue)

Recommended Posts

I didn't notice the reissue price at first and so when you said "kind of steep" I saw the 299 and was all WHAT.

Hah.  Seems like 30 dollar plus for an album is the new 20 dollar plus for a new album.

Seems like the demand is there for them to charge an exorbitant amount. It's funny because the high demand for a lot of OOP records are solely due to their rarity as opposed to how good the record is (AKA ~the hobby~), which the labels can then exploit to sell reissues at a premium once the demand reaches an all-time high. Essentially, record collectors are dumb and insatiable which allows labels take advantage of that.

This brings up another somewhat tangential point which is that it's almost pointless to buy any OOP records anymore, as more and more labels are finding that there's a high demand for a lot of their catalog that's OOP and therefore they'll end up repressing it anyway, especially while the "vinyl bubble" still exists.

I was literally sitting here thinking "guess it's true if I wait long enough everything will be reissued" while browsing for things I want.  I haven't been collecting long enough to know if something that's reissued needs to be grabbed up as soon as the pre-order hits or if once there are copies readily available I can purchase when I want/can or if the price drops.   Suppose that also plays a part in what's keeping prices high.

If this is really getting a reissue my guess is it wont be hard to pick up or find.

Just found the pressing numbers from ETR comments

"500 webstore on 3 color swirl , 1000 black for general retail / amazon, 1500 indie music store exclusive on maroon and 1000 on 2 color swirl which are exclusive to "books a million" which is a new book store retailer for vinyl."

Looks like Books a Million is in the game!

Everything about this release makes sense for ETR.

Overpriced.

Overabundance of variants.

Exclusive for "Books-A-Million". (This is so funny)

Thanks to look forward to -

Typos in packaging.

Band unaware of pressing (but who cares at this point - it's Maroon 5).

What's next? A cover band doing TMNT covers? lol.

I missed the ETR thing. Anyone have a good TL;DR? I know there's a huge thread for it, but I don't know if it's worth combing through.

Here's a good ETR wrap-up:

Ross has had some serious issues from the beginning that have only been compounded by the recent influx of information that this thread has provided. Here's a list of more-than-questionable business decisions/screw-ups that have occurred:

- First release - a picture disc that he tried to justify by saying it was the only way to make a 'gold' record

+ Awful shipping job on these - often resulting in damaged records

- Starting Line - poorly packaged, almost all seam splits.

- RXBandits - No band approval. No remorse. (You will find this to be a recurring theme)

- Early November - Blown up CD artwork. Huge barcode on back because of this. (I know this is technically Patrick's doing, but Ross is the label owner)

+ Hidden /50 variant that he told people not to reveal because the label didn't even know about it.

- Fall of Troy - typo on track listing.

- Cartel - He purposely made this a 'surprise' release as he didn't have the band approval and knew there would be issues. However, ETR sold out before the band could get word out.

- NK - Basement Tapes - Have you seen the 'packaging' for this? He reasoned it was because it was a 'demo' release and purposefully minimal packaging.

- Dream Theater - He claimed it was CD-sourced because no digital files exist anymore. Music on Vinyl used HQ digital files from the label for their release of this.

- Cute Is What We Aim For - Wrong center labels.

- Kevin Devine Live - Misspelling on spine. Pixellated interior images. Wrong center labels. Wrong track lengths.

- Doug 7" - Re-recorded covers of the 'original' songs by he and his friends. Makes it completely ambiguous in all postings. Thanks himself on the back of the record.

- Lightning bolt shirt - Supposed to be bolt from Skeeter's shirt. Looks nothing like it.

Extra-curricular activities -

- Charges >$5 for shipping media mail - and claimed it was because pricing had gone up.

- Sells grab bag - often putting in records that would be cheaper if you bought normally on this site.

- Uses eBay to flip his own releases

- Gives extra variants to his business partner to flip for even more on his own eBay account

- Said business partner (and owner of Paper Books) comes in to lie and cover-up for Ross

- Said business partner (and best friend and 'musician' on Doug 7") tells board member "I will be sure to give you a rag to wipe off my cum after you are under my desk choking on my dick," among other things.

- More lies from ETR

It's known I've never been a fan of Ross, but coming in and apologizing just doesn't fly for me (even though he hasn't even done this). He constantly makes excuses, has poor business tactics, is known to lie over and over to cover himself, and has shown almost zero regard for the bands he works with.

Holy fuck that's bad. Have they done any real response to criticism or are they quiet about it? (Like the media mail, and other stuff that they were called out on).

nope. as mentioned in grant's post, the responses were generally a lot of lies, bs excuses, and comments stating that "haters gonna hate."
